The Lyrics

Hey There Delilah

Hey there Delilah
What's it like to be so kooky?
You’ve always been way out there
But girl tonight you sound so spooky
Yes you do
You just are not that bright are you?
I swear it's true

Hey there Delilah
You’re a magnet for all those misfits
They call you when they get lonely
They’re the only ones that listen
To your show
They hear the voice that I despise
It’s no surprise

Oh it's what you do to me
Oh you speak with too much glee
Oh I cringe and then I flee
Oh you’d be a bad emcee
Don’t go on TV

Hey there Delilah
I know times are getting hard
But just believe me girl
You’ve left some people permanently scarred
With bad advice
And playing songs that make things worse
You are not nice

Hey there Delilah
I just wish you’d go away
You are the queen of super sappiness
With everything you say
And that’s not good
I would get you fired if I could
Oh yes I would

Oh it's what you do to me
Oh was driving by the sea
Oh I heard you on route three
Oh then ran into a tree

A thousand miles ain’t far enough
To get away from all your fluff
Luckily another station I can play
My friends they all make fun of you
And I just laugh along because I know
That most the world has felt this way
Delilah I can promise you
That by the time you get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you're to blame

Hey there Delilah
You’re so bad and we won’t miss you
Two more years until your contract’s up
And I hope that they will not renew
And we can bid to you adieu
And nevermore shall we endure you
Hey there Delilah you’ll be through
It’s overdue

Oh it's what you do to me
Oh your head must be empty
Oh you’re not from MIT
Oh you know it’s not funny
What you do to me.

What is this parody about? We need a discripition. Still, good writing.

My bad, Cody! Delilah is the host of a nightly radio show heard nationwide. People call in with sob stories and she gives them bad advice and plays a bad song for them. I have seen several other Delilah parodies here and I gues I just made an ass-umption! Sorry for the confusion. :-)

Isn't this a low-quality bootleg of Arwen's "Hey There Delilah (Of Late Night Radio Fame)"? No kudos for you. Pacing off, not funny, 322.

(big sigh) OK, nobody complained when there was two "Hey There Papayas!" I humbly acknowledged Arwen's version when I commented on it, that it had inspired me to finish my own version, and gave her 5's. Delilah is in the same category as an actor, a singer, a politician, etc. She is a public entity, an entertainer and fair game for anyone's parody. Are you suggesting that once a person parodies one of these very public people that no other parodies be written by anyone else? Absurd and ridiculous! That said, had you read them a little more closely, you would have plainly seen that Arwen's version concentrates on Delilah's choice of songs, whereas my version focuses mainly on Delilah's personality. There are actually very different. I have long been a Delilah detractor because my wife, for some unknown reason, likes to listen to her sometimes. And, had you bothered to ask, I had the makings of this particular parody well before I read Arwen's brilliant version. I have only discovered this site in the past week. Hey, I used that song for another parody too! OMG, the Parody Police will be busting down my door! Now, what's your biggest problem? I certainly hope it isn't me. My biggest problem is that you downgraded my parody based on your false interpretation of my motives. There is nothing wrong with the pacing, it matches what I did on the other song and you seemed to like that one. And I happen to think it's very funny. Anyone who has ever heard Delilah for any length of time would know that. And how many times have you heard Delilah? Low quality? I'm proud of the way the words were crafted, so go back and read it again without the knee-jerk bias this time. Perhaps we would all have been better served if you had let Arwen know about it and let her decide. If I have offended Arwen, I sincerely apologize. If I have offended you, Silver Power, so be it. Oh, BTW, since I'm new here; Are you one of the site troublemakers? It's always good to know who the problem people are. Because had I known, I may have gone a little lighter on you, but I'm afraid I couldn't wait to respond this time.
Arwen - June 17, 2009 - Report this comment
Ooooh...I love a little drama on a Wednesday afternoon. =)

Silver...thanks for having my back here...I can see how it might be construed as an idea "rip off," but I don't personally have a problem with BlackJack21 writing a parody with the same theme/OS...it's fine by me. Whether or not he wrote it before or after I wrote mine...it's no biggie.

That being said, however, I DID have problems with pacing in several spots throughout the parody, including internal rhyme scheme, which, when not followed, is totally distracting to me. So...I think that Silver's docking of merit on pacing is justified...because he may have had the same problems that I had. I went through the parody twice, just to be sure...and couldn't come to a better conclusion.

Also...you can't be mad at anyone for not finding your parody funny. Regardless of the fact that you think it's hilarious. Even if every person on the site thought it was hilarious. Each of us has our own tastes and if SP didn't think it was funny...that's his call. Even if his opinion is based on a devotion to MY parody...he's still entitled to it. Sorry. I wasn't rolling in the aisles here...but I did find some laughs in this..."permanently scarred" was a favorite line of mine. I'm going to withhold my vote here...lest you think that I am voting with any bias, as I'm sure you would, when I knocked you for pacing.

Finally...I've been around the site for a long time, and have found Silver Power to be the opposite of being a site troublemaker. He's great with commenting, and is honest. He's written some really fun parodies, too. Perhaps you should withhold your own knee-jerk reactions when judging others...as you advise him to do the same. =)

FWIW, I have no problem with yours compared to Arwen's. (Very dipolamatic Arwen, thumbs up). I would have quibbled with keeping "what you do to me" from the OS...my non-biased vote 554. Really, not bad at all, blackjack.

I get it. Thank you.
blackjack21 - June 17, 2009 - Report this comment
Thank you, Agrimorfee, appreciated. Arwen, thanks for weighing in on the "drama." I stand by what I said to SP. It felt like a cheap shot to me. There was no "rip off" involved and I didn't appreciate his/her mean spirited comments. If I disliked someone's parody that much I would just vote and not make public comments that might embarrass them further. I'm not mad about "not funny" save for the fact that it was a public comment. If I see a 1 and a 2 in that column I know someone didn't find it funny. I never said it was hilarious, but thought there were funny parts, as you said. It all depends on how well you know the subject, and SP obviously knew very little about Delilah and her show. The radio Delilah has been around for 20+ years, so I'm sure there are hundreds of parodies about this kooky lady, published or not. I don't think yours was the first, especially after the OS came out. When I first heard the OS, I thought it might even be about her at first. I saw no issue whatsoever with yours vs. mine, totally different angles on the same character, albeit the same OS. What other song would you use to spoof radio Delilah? Should all parodies of radio Delilah using the OS end because of yours? Or mine? Not in a million years. You covered one small aspect of Delilah, I covered a few more. And she has a hundred other aspects to her that are noteworthy, some funny and some admirable. I don't dislike her personally, it's her unique style that annoys me. Mine was totally original based on what I personally know about Delilah from hearing her radio show and had nothing to do with yours. I have had lines in my head about radio Delilah ever since the OS came out. I've become more serious about writing my ideas down after I discovered this site last week. I never said that mine was written before yours, it wasn't. And as I explained earlier, your parody inspired me to go forward with the ideas I had bounced around every time I heard her or the OS. Quite frankly, I had problems with your pacing as well, but decided not to ding you for it because the OS is a difficult one to match up with. And I could have been mistaken, because if you're not actually listening to the song while you read it, it isn't always evident. Sometimes the song goes too quickly, I had trouble with that on one I was working on today. And internal rhyme scheme is nice, but I don't think it necessarily kills the flow of the words if it isn't perfect, especially when the OS IRS doesn't always rhyme perfectly. Maybe if I was more experienced at writing parodies I would have voted differently, and probably not have reacted to SP so quickly. I really don't care if you vote or not, I'm not against opinions. I just don't think public comments are appropriate if you don't have anything nice or constructive to say. Your low vote should be enough. And especially if you're accusing someone of something like plagiarism without backing it up with any facts or carefully weighing your words. It was basically slander, plain and simple, and I did not appreciate it. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a lot of work to do. I have to make sure that there is a song left that's never been parodied before. Then I'll never have to defend myself for something I didn't do because someone took it upon themselves to be the PPP.

Cody Slusher: You are welcome, sorry I didn't explain it up front, I should have. I should have also included that a parody of the same name by Arwen inspired me to finish mine, so be sure to check that one out if you haven't already, it's really good.
Silver Power - June 17, 2009 - Report this comment
I misread the first few lines, pacing seemed off, so therefore I apologize on the pacing commentary. I will gladly award you a 5 for pacing once I get on another computer. However, just making a parody regarding the same subject matter is fine. But when it's a parody of the same song, and it submitted around the same time frame as a previous parody of the like has been submitted, it seems just a little suspicious. And just saying nice things about the previously submitted parody and rating it well doesn't make it acceptable to blatantly steal an idea. Basically like me saying "I'm going to rate Weird Al's newest CD 5 stars on Amazon, and leave it a nice review, and then I'm going to make another Chamillionaire parody about being white and nerdy". Unacceptable. You have a lot to learn.
Silver Power - June 17, 2009 - Report this comment
And also, pardon me, for I have another comment, towards Blackjack's 2nd response: I have listened to Delilah, that's why I regarded Arwen's parody so highly, I even ranked it top in the latest SOTM competition. I always had to listen to it on the radio when we would drive in the car and my grandparents [whom I live with] would listen to the local light rock station. Also, don't get mad if someone says in a comment that your parody isn't funny, not everyone is going to like everything you do. But instead of taking this as an insult, think of it as a kick in the arse to write a better one. And what's a PPP? About Arwen's pacing being off: I don't believe it was, it was a pretty darn perfectly constructed parody on her part. But just to avoid mix-ups in my latest parodies, instead of including Youtube/MP3 links in the top/bottom comments, I've included links to the lyrics, where I got the pacing from, so that the pacing can't be disputed just because someone hears a song differently than another person. I am a he, name is Torey Spindler [girls name, I know, but I am a male, I promise you], I am 16, and I'm from South Jersey. Just for future reference. But calling me SP is fine. And furthermore, my security code is XAD, which kind of looks like a laughing face with a weird nose.
blackjack21 - June 18, 2009 - Report this comment
Oh! I get it now, you’re all of 16 years old and I have a lot to learn? That’s actually funny, there’s a parody in there somewhere. I think that using another computer to vote twice on the same song is, how should I put it? Unacceptable. Besides that, I wouldn’t give it a 5 for pacing anyway, it’s probably a 4 at best. The first couple of verses are a little choppy. I think what’s throwing me off on Arwen’s pacing is the CAPITALIZATIONS-and-the-dashes. I know, those are supposed to help, but not for me. I use commas too much, which, can also be, distracting. Bottom line is that OS is a b!tch and Arwen did, as I said before, a brilliant job. However, SP you are way off base and also out of line for suggesting that there was a blatant stealing of any idea. The OS came out in 2005, do you really think it took 4 years for someone to come up with a parody of radio Delilah with the OS? The first time I heard the OS I thought it WAS about radio Delilah. If you can’t see the differences in the 2 parodies, pay attention and you might learn something. Your Weird Al example is apples and oranges. The white and nerdy character was created by Weird Al, it’s his take on what a white and nerdy character looks like and he got it published. Delilah is a real person who is publicly heard by millions of people every night. She was not created by someone’s ideas, most of her charcteristics are publicly known and fair game for anyone’s commentary. Nothing in my parody was copied from Arwen. I had ONE LINE about bad advice and song choice. This is a trait of Delilah that is widely shared by many people who have heard her show and is nothing new or original. The rest of it was about Delilah’s on-air personality, which as I understand is much like her real self, but I digress. Her personality as seen in my parody is kooky, spooky, not too bright, fluffy, gleeful, sappy. (she actually calls herself “The Queen of Sappiness) Radio Delilah also has many good qualities as a person that I didn’t delve into because it IS a parody. I think this might be why you didn’t find it funny. Because if you have heard Delilah as you say, you might think she is a nice person who helps people, even though she chooses goofy songs sometimes. And I’m sure your grandparents love her. I’m sure many people who like Delilah would be offended at my parody and not find it funny, but that’s parody for you. You told me it’s “not funny”, fair enough. Public comments, if they are going to be negative, should offer something more constructive or helpful. As in “Did you think about trying it this way?” or “It would have been a little better if you didn’t repeat this so much." And if you’re going to go there at least toss me a bone. How about “It wasn’t funny for me because...???" That would be the kick in the arse for improvement. Your type of comment only discourages people or makes them mad. So don’t poke the tiger if you don’t want to hear him growl. Enough already, I could have written three parodies in the time I’ve spent on this drama. Yes, it’s my choice to respond to this degree, but I’m going to consider it community service. So TS from SJ, aka Silver Power, I will chalk this up to your youthful impulsiveness and enthusiasm. No hard feelings on my part, and I hope none on yours. Or Arwens. Seriously SP, I would advise you to stop accusing people of things that you have no firsthand knowledge about. This is called gossip at best and slander at worst. It’s pure speculation on your part and has no basis in fact. It can get you in a lot of trouble now and even more trouble as you get older if you happen to cross the wrong person. So for your own protection, don’t give out your real name and where you live in the future if someone is pissed at you. That can be dangerous for someone your age to put that information online in general, so do be careful. Is it possible to have one of the admins remove that or black it out? My best to you and your grandparents. Oh, and PPP was for Parody Plagiarism Police. XAD

Yes, I'm 16, but I've been on this site for about 6 years, and I've learned a lot.

I would give it 5, because it deserved 4 for pacing, and I gave it a 3, so, basic math says that the average of 5 and 3 is 4, which is how these votes are counted, in averages.

A friend told me that on a different IP you can vote twice. I"ve only done it on occasions where I slipped at voting and accidently put the wrong numbers. I don't personally have another computer.

Neither commas or line-dashes are distracting to me, if I know a song.

Your Weird Al response is pretty much irrelevent, because Al didn't create the character, he used common stereotypes on what a white nerdy should be.

I felt that nothing more needed to be said in my original comment, other than what I had originally typed.

If you could have written 3 parodies within the last day and a half in which this 'argument' was going on, I'm sure the quality of said parodies might be a bit disappointing. That's another thing I learned from being here, quality, not quantity. Not to say that your other parodies aren't okay, but don't be fooled by the authors that submit multiple parodies in a single day.

My real name and [basic] location is no secret. I publish it everywhere. Admins need not block it out. JUst because I'm a dead sexy 16 year old. ;]

After I posted the PPP question, I kind of figured the acronym out.

I wouldn't accuse someone of something I knew little about. Same subject. Same original song. Same basic time period. Same site.

XAD.

Hey Blackjack...on a different note...you mentioned, in your first comment (before the drama) that you've seen several parodies about Delilah here on the site. I'm just curious which parodies you're talking about, (I couldn't find any) because I'd be interested to know what the authors of those parodies think of all this. Maybe they think that I copied their idea. You know?

Also, since you said you hope that there are no hard feelings on my part, I can assure you that there aren't. I still think, though, that you should tone down the lecture in regard to SP's comments. Once you've been around here long enough, you'll realize that people comment in lots of ways...not just in the way that you think is acceptable. People have every right to say "I thought this was horrible" and leave it at that. Of course, we'd all like some tips or some hints on how to make it better...but that's the breaks. There is no "allow comments that I approve of" box to check when you submit your parodies. I can assure you that people have said FAR more mean spirited things to me in comments than SP said to you. It's just how it goes sometimes.

Finally...I'm not generally in the business of defending my stuff. I used to...when I was new...but as I said before, once you've been around long enough, you realize you can't please everyone...and if I like my stuff...then that's all that matters. That being said...my pacing wasn't off. Sorry. You're welcome to your opinion, of course, but you're wrong. And you gave my pacing 5s before you felt the need to defend your own stuff by tearing mine down...so...your claim doesn't hold much water when you say it now.

And THAT...is all I'm going to say.

Gawd, you people are killing me here! OK, since we're into last words here, I'll give you mine. First of all…Ash: I’ve said all along Arwen’s parody was better. Chill pill noted, trying desperately to get that sucker down!.....teepee: Thank you…..Silver Power: You missed the point of my last response entirely, but that doesn’t surprise me. I don’t care what you’ve learned about how to vote, OK? I wanted you to learn something about life in general. And that is that you don’t go around haphazardly accusing someone of something you know nothing about! If that wasn’t said, none of the other stuff would be an issue at all. You are just wrong, plain and simple. But it’s nice that your world is so black and white, and everything is just so easy to figure out, and you know exactly what everyone was thinking when they did what they did. You know all and see all. That sound about right? You must be some kind of psychic man! But I remember my kids when they were that age, so it’s about par for the course. Where was the indignation for multiple “Hey There Papaya” songs? And we have 4 “Hey Aunt Jemima”, where is the outrage, dude? Oh, I forgot, you don’t have a crush on any of the people who wrote those. Hey, I don’t blame you, she seems very nice and she writes good parodies. Might be a little old for you though, hard to tell. Yes, Weird Al was irrelevant the first time, which is what I was trying to tell you in the first place, since you were the one who originally brought him up. Well, you’ve basically learned nothing here, but my expectations weren’t that high to begin with. So maybe someday we’ll have a nice chat when you grow up. And finally, Arwen: This is all your fault you know. Just kidding! I saw the OS titles being used and just assumed that most of them were about radio Delilah. Yours was the only one I read initially, because you had the radio Delilah subtitle. I honestly didn’t have any other thoughts about what you could do with that OS, so I didn’t read any more of them until I had worked on mine. After mine was done I went back and looked at them more closely and if there were similarities I would obviously not have posted. Then I saw that none of the other ones were about her. There was one about being in jail, one about a womanizer, one about big titties, but no radio Delilah, unless she has big titties, hard to tell on the radio. So I thought mine was such a different take on her that I didn’t think it would be a problem. I probably should have contacted you about it first. I do apologize, and I have absolutely no problem with mine being removed from the site whatsoever, just say the word. That’s one reason why my parody contains virtually nothing that’s in yours because I didn’t want to be (falsely) accused of copying. Enter drama. Look, I really don’t care about the comments, I’ve seen a lot worse. They were just more fuel on the fire. It’s the unfounded accusation that got me steamed. I stand by every word I said about that part of it, and all the other words for that matter. Don’t defend your stuff now just for me. You don’t need to. I didn’t try to tear yours down, that’s the way it honestly seemed when I first read it and voted for it. I only read it once before I voted. I gave you due credit for tackling a difficult song and gave you well deserved 5s. I have told other people that yours is really good, in fact I told the whole site that it was “brilliantly done.” My opinion hasn’t changed, what I told you yesterday was from my first impression. I’m sure if I went back and listened to it again I would see the light of perfection. But I don’t think I want to hear that song for awhile. Thanks everyone, it’s been fun. But you know what they say, “All good slings must run out of arrows.” (Hope nobody else has said that, I just made it up) Happy lives to you and yours! And that’s the truth. Sincerely, blackjack21 THE END (at least for me anyway)

No vote here (or on Arwen's parody), because I have no idea who this radio show host Delilah is nor have I ever heard her. I'm also so sick of TOS (the original song) that I'd rather repeatedly stab myself in the groin with a rusty icepick than hear it again right now. =)

That said, I just wanted to address one issue: idea theft. This parody did not do that. bj21's comment on Arwen's parody prior to this one being submitted shows that he did (to some extent) get the idea from her. An intro comment and link to her parody would have been an extra courtesy (which I did when I wrote "I've Cloned Angelina", one day after Spaff's "We've Cloned Darryl Hannah"), one that would have headed off many of the confrontational comments here.

Btw, bj21, welcome to the site.

I've only begun writing serious parodies for about 2 weeks. Radio host Delilah has been around for ages, over 20 years at least. This incident is unfortunate but you know, I think the comments have been more entertaining than the songs, if you like drama I guess. But I was just thinking this morning that the parodies I've posted here so far should pretty much dispel any notion that I need to steal ideas from anyone. Thanks again for your insights Red Ant, and your suggestion to intro and link would have been the right way to go if I had been wise enough to do that. Live and learn.
Silver Power - June 19, 2009 - Report this comment
I did say that I liked some of your other stuff. Just not this one. Never this one.

Red Ant: You're actually right, a lot of this could have been avoided by including a link to her parody. Then it may have been known that you read hers and appreciated it, as opposed to people getting the idea that you liked a parody, and decided to jack the subject.

Provided Blackjack21 doesn't continuously drag on anymore conversation, I'm officially done here.

Silver Power: That was addressed to Red Ant, not you. Damm boy! Who's dragging on here? That's the third time you've been done already! Why don't you go write your own parody or something? Sheesh! Oh, BTW, I have a special parody that I started after seeing that you were going to keep on keepin' on here, but I didn't get it out in time today. It's special because YOU inspired it. And guess what OS I used? Mu-hu-ha-ha-ha!!! Do you mind if I use your screen name on it or would you prefer I call the subject by an alias? Your choice dude. And thanks for the inspiration, see that's how art works. Beautiful, ain't it?

Wow...it's like the super back-biting episode of the Real World that I couldn't stop watching...even though I REALLY wanted to stop watching.

I think you both of you should call it quits on this one...(you both keep promising you will...and then egg the other on with your parting words)...even though I swear I'm going to tune in until the end of time if you don't.

One observation, though...

Blackjack...You continue to dwell on SP's age and comment over and over about how much more mature you are than he is. You're not doing a very good job of proving your relative maturity level with your "laff it up Queenie," "Damm boy," and "mu-hu-ha-ha-ha" laced comments. Bragging about all of your years of experience, and saying "he'll learn in time," holds ZERO weight when paired with the fact that your behavior can be likened to that of a scorned 8th grader who got his lunch taken away. By a 2nd grader. If you think he needs to grow up...maybe you should set an example of that. You continually blame his behavior on his age...but what do you blame yours (which is nearly identical) on?

And please don't say that I'm taking HIS side. I'm taking the side of logic. You are continually contradicting yourself here. You can't say that you hate Elvis Presley and then take up residence at Graceland.

Now...you can say what you want to say...I'm immature all the time, and I'm sure I've annoyed my fair share of folks...I'm just saying that when I read your insults and mud-slinging...about SP's insults and mud-slinging...the old saying "practice what you preach" comes to mind.
blackjack21 - June 19, 2009 - Report this comment
My aren't you the sophisticated one who never gets her hands dirty. I have harped on many things about SP, but his age is the crux of the problem whether you want to believe it or not. And I don't believe for a second that you don't have a side here, so can it sister. The issue boils down to one thing now: SP has accused me, wrongly, of stealing a song. As long as he continues to maintain this stance, and continues to screw with me, he will get both barrels. If he's old enough to be on here making allegations like that, he's old enough to take the heat for what he's said. Personally, I don't believe he's old enough to be on here, IMHO. As far as your opinion of my maturity level, you are sadly off base, but that just proves your bias to the situation. I offered many comments ago a no hard feelings truce, which was thrown back in my face by the smug teen. I am not going to take crap accusations from anyone, especially not a know-it-all smart@$$ teenager. Oh, BTW, I've not hear a hint from SP of "Gee, maybe I was a little quick to judge bj21" or "No hard feelings." with a PERIOD after it. Not "no hard feelings as long as you don't" whatever. So he can continue to slander me if he wants and I'll continue to bust his chops whenever he screws with me.
Arwen - June 19, 2009 - Report this comment
LOL!

Sorry...but I honestly DID laugh at your comment. I have claimed to be MANY different things on this site...but sophisticated is not one of them. Ever. Also, given your history on this comment thread alone, I KNEW you would come back at me...and had I not been willing to "get my hands dirty," I wouldn't have said anything. I've had my fair share of arguments with a variety of folks here...and I've yet to back down from what I believe is true. In spite of the adoration that I claim to have on the site, I know for a fact that there are those who can't stand me...and that is because I DO stand up for myself and my beliefs.

I encourage you to do the same. However...standing up for yourself shouldn't ever include name calling or disparaging comments about things that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. Any argument loses is credibility when these become your tactics. Sure...SP implied that you stole your idea...but he never once called you a name or even varied from his basic point of view. Which, regardless of what you say...he is entitled to. If I've taken his side, as you claim, it's because he has handled himself FAR more maturely than I think you have. The "grown up" thing to do would have been to reply once...in a level headed tone...and call it good. The more defensive you are...the more it looks like you have something to be defensive about.

And don't, for one second, pretend that SP's age is the issue here. You were chewing him out and calling him a site troublemaker before you knew how old he was. As for him, or anyone, being too young to be on the site...I flat out disagree. There have been COUNTLESS teenagers on the site with unbelievable talent. I count myself lucky every single time I read something by EmiLoca, for example...who is 20 now, but has been submitting PHENOMENAL work for years. Matthias and Luke Brattoni are other examples. And I would put money on the fact that if a 16 year old had commented about how great the parody was, you wouldn't have had any problem with it.

The bottom line is that you don't have to be "of age" to form a valid opinion on parody or to be welcome on this site. Neither, as you've proven, do you have to be a teenager to be smug, or a "know-it-all smart@$$."
blackjack21 - June 19, 2009 - Report this comment
Arwen: Give it a rest. The fact that you continue to come back at me belies your assertion that you had no side here. You had a side from the beginning. I said you were sophisticated because you had taken the high road in this little adventure up until today. I attempted to do the same early on. My first 2 comments were before I knew anything about SP. After his response I think I softened my stance significantly, and this was AFTER he closed his post with "Unacceptable. You have a lot to learn." I factored in his age, which is a factor here don't discount that. I quote "So TS from SJ, aka Silver Power, I will chalk this up to your youthful impulsiveness and enthusiasm. No hard feelings on my part, and I hope none on yours. Or Arwens." Does this not signal a desire for an end to the conflict to you? There are several instances where I attempted to inject some humor into the situation. With this post I was honestly trying to take the role of a mentor. My 2 boys are grown, I do have some experience here. I even warned him, sincerely, about the danger of posting your name, age and location online. His response? (edited for brevity) "Yes, I'm 16, but I've been on this site for about 6 years, and I've learned a lot."..."I felt that nothing more needed to be said in my original comment, other than what I had originally typed"...."My real name and [basic] location is no secret. I publish it everywhere. Admins need not block it out. JUst because I'm a dead sexy 16 year old. ;]" "After I posted the PPP question, I kind of figured the acronym out." "I wouldn't accuse someone of something I knew little about. Same subject. Same original song. Same basic time period. Same site." OK, what's the general attitude here? See any acknowledgement of no hard feelings there? See any willingness on his part to meet halfway? I didn't and at that point, the gloves are off. Sorry if you disagree, but thats's my take. I don't have any argument with you. You are very diplomatic and eloquent, even if you aren't "sophisticated." And you write very "inspiring" parodies to boot. I don't dislike you at all. The beef is with the kid, and I'll be dammed if I'll back down from that any time soon. I should probably add for backgrouds sake, that we recently ended an issue that we had with a neighbor's 15 year old that was not good. Very disrespectful, smart mouth, cursing at us, vandalism, menacing, involvement from police. It was not good at all. Thank God they moved a few months ago. So admittedly I am surely overly sensitive right now. But that does not change the facts to date in this "drama." Sorry, I know you don't agree, but I've been that way forever and I'm too old to change now. So nothing you can say can really change my mind, so just enjoy the show if you can. It's really up to him, because I have seen NO willingness on his part to move an inch, whereas I was at the halfway point a couple of days ago. Don't know what else to say and not really sure what all I've said so far, but this is the real me and it's time to hit the send button. Take it or leave it.

Yeppers.

Arwen is right. Age doesn't matter. I'm typing proper sentences, using correct grammar, leading my argument with facts, not going askew from the topic, and, most importantly, not making insults regarding something that can't be changes, like you have done towards me countless times.

On many occasions during this whole ordeal, you've actually been less mature than me, which sort of says something about how age doesn't really matter. And I pride myself in the fact that I'm not a typical teen, who uses leet when trying to insult someone [smart@$$], and who states my point clearly, and using proper English.

Act your age, not your IQ. It may sound like one of those cliche terms, because it is, but never has it been used on a more appropriate occasion.

If you think you're more mature than me, prove it.

I'm glad that you don't hate me. I don't hate you either...but it is an absolute non-truth that this is in Silver Power's hands to end. He doesn't HAVE to meet you halfway to end this. He doesn't have to agree to having no hard feelings. He doesn't have to say he's sorry. I have opted out of several arguments because it had become clear to me that an impass had been reached. You've already admitted that you aren't going to be swayed on your opinion. That's fine...neither am I. And, apparently, neither is Silver Power. But...so what? If you are going to continually rant on and on...when you've already made up your mind that he's a punk kid who doesn't even deserve your time...what are you hoping to achieve?

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with a teenager in your "real" life. It's unfortunate that you're letting that experience shape the way you'll look at all teenagers. There are some good ones out there. I don't see SP as being disrespectful toward you. He stated an opinion...and stood by it. It wasn't personal...I think he would have said it to anyone in the same situation. You're taking it WAY too much to heart.

Oh, and I'll fully admit to taking sides now. It's impossible for me NOT to take sides when someone says "can it, sister" to me. I don't take kindly to being told to shut up.

NOTE: This was in response to your post that began with "Yeppers" Much has been posted since then while I was composing this, but I haven't changed this response. And I am sorry about the wallpaper, but I will have to figure that out the next time...This 2 parts as it was too long..My response part 1: Why is it that most of what you say again and again is just a rehash of something Arwen has just said? That all sounded very mature in your first two paragraphs there, I'll give you that. But I don't think that makes you mature. Intelligent? Sure, I'll give you that too. I will call it as I see it no matter if it compliments an adversary or not. It is what it is and trying to put a spin on everything doesn't mean a thing. And I don't think those first two are entirely true, either. Let's not forget the first shot fired here:"Idea plagiarism isn't a good look." We can go back through everything that was said and done blow by blow if you want. I did it tonight before my last comment to Arwen. To Arwen, not to you. And here you come with, "Arwen is right." You haven't responded directly to me for a spell, you're just riding in on the coattails of what other people reply to me. You may think you're mature but I'll quote you and say, "You have a lot to learn." When I was 16 I would never dream of saying something like that to an adult. But I guess the online world is a little different and you can be a lot bolder. You see, when I was a kid there was always the threat of bodily harm and that makes a ton of difference. So once again, I will excuse your indiscretion because of your age, which IS a factor here. Doesn't mean you're not intelligent, doesn't mean you can't be mature, doesn't mean you can't write a good parody, doesn't mean you don't know a good parody when you see one. I will say one thing though, I don't think someone who is younger will "get" some of the humor that the older folks write. We will reference things that younger people have possibly never heard of, not a knock on young people, just the way it is. Anyway, you'll have to give me some specific examples of "insults regarding something that can't be changes" because I honestly don't know what that means. This "leet"?, never heard of it, but some of what I typed was because I didn't know if there was a filter for profanity on here. But I said you were a smartass because you are a smartass, that's my opinion, whether you like it or believe it or not. I also called you a "little goof" that was brutal, sorry. Go back and read what I quoted you as saying in my last comment to Arwen and it's pretty plain why you were called a smartass: "You have a lot to learn." and "I'm just kidding, you're an idiot." Here's your latest one, "Act your age, not your IQ" Those are quotes from you to me. What would you call that SP? Maturity? A proper sentence? Not an insult? What? You ever hear of being respectful to your elders? That's maturity. You ever hear of meeting someone halfway? That's maturity. You ever hear of admitting that you have a share in the blame when something goes wrong? That's maturity. And I'll give you another word: That's also integrity. My IQ is 138 and I'm nowhere near that old but I'm getting there with your help, thanks. I think your IQ has to be below 70 or 80 to be considered an idiot. Or is that a moron? I don't know, not important. Really, you don't want to continue this.
blackjack21 - June 19, 2009 - Report this comment
My Response part 2: I'll tear down any argument you can make because it's all recorded in the comments. And I've also saved it to a file so that I can refute your next rehash from Arwen's comments. I'm urging you to give it up, it's futile. You can say whatever you want, the facts are still there and you also have no way of knowing what my original intent was when I wrote the parody in the first place. I'm telling you you're out of your league here. So go ahead and give it a shot. And don't just read what Arwen wrote, read my last comment and you tell me how you've moved toward resolving this dispute. Use your own words, not Arwens. And here, I'll help you out and save you some time. You haven't. Did I state that clear enough for you? Did I use proper English to your specifications? The bottom line is, I don't have to prove anything to you. Never have, never will. You were the one who made the plagiarism accusation, remember? But aside from everything else, you have only proven to me that you can't admit when you're wrong or share even the slightest amount of reponsibility for the way this has turned out. Not...one...bit. I was willing to meet you halfway at one point, no hard feelings, remember that? And you did not accept that unconditionally, which is what no hard feelings means, there are no strings. At that point I was willing to let bygones be bygones and let it go. But you were more concerned with being right about your accusation. Read my last comment to Arwen for how you responded to that and you'll see where I'm coming from. Having said all that, I will try one more time to resolve this. I will make you an offer and demonstrate what maturity is, and integrity as well. If you can accept some responsibility for this, whatever you think is right, you tell me. However, a token amount will not do, bids begin at 25%. And I'll take the rest of the blame, because no matter what you believe, you are not blameless here, but that's life and it's part of being mature. If you can do that, I will shake your hand and say no hard feelings, I'm sorry this whole thing happened and never mention it again and you say and do the same. I will say I'm sorry this whole thing happened right now, because it's really not good for anyone here. But as I said, I' will not ever back down if that's what you want. So, that puts me beyond halfway depending on what you deem is your fair share. So how far are you willing to come? How mature are you really? We'll find out. But don't reply tonight. I want you to think about it for awhile. You wait until after noon tomorrow to give me your response. Whatever you decide, we'll go on from there. Goodnight.

Although I won't admit fault, as you won't either, I will admit that I share about 50% of this argument's responsibility. I was the one who initiated it, however, you were the one who got extremely defensive about, which I may or may not have in that type of situation.

You show a good deal of insight and maturity when you say we're a lot alike. That isn't an easy thing to say about someone you're having a dispute with, but I think you're correct. I admit I am a smartass, and proud of it. I try hard though, to only use that when someone has it coming. Being a smartass is a gift and should not be abused. :)

50-50 sounds like a helluva good deal to me, could not ask for any more than that, though I would have probably accepted less from you. Yes, I'll admit I was defensive about it, because I was brand new here and I thought "Great, now I'll be labeled a plagiarist. I know I can write good parodies, but now I'm not going to have any credibility here."

You are a worthy adversary and I must say I was surprised at your tenacity. As for me I am done with this dispute. Definitely it went on too long, but knowing how we are I'm not too surprised at that. No hard feelings from me and I will not bring it up again. Hope you can say the same.

Now let's get back to writing some kickass parodies. I've read some of your stuff and you have talent. So how about we see a new one from you by the end of the month? Not bragging, but I'm only 15, and have only done parodies for AmIRight for about 3 weeks now, but I have 28 parodies on, most decent, a few excellent, and a few so horrible I refuse to submit them. EmiLoca and Matthias are 2 of my faves, although I've not seen anything by Luke yet.
Blackjack21, I have to say despite all this, you are still a good parodist in my book. So is Arwen, SP and everyone else who got involved in this mess. And we share something in common: we're new. I was afraid after posting too many DDR parodies I would get a bad rep, but I still get views/comments. Don't worry about plagiarism: it happened this once, and hopefully, it won't happen again. Take it easy, man, and I'll see you again sometime later around AmIRight.
