The Lyrics

Remember the PBS P-Pals from back in the 90s? Remember how they'd shock the living crap out of you with their "SURPRISE!!!!" ident? Well, this is a tribute to them, and the amount of nightmares they have caused our society, set to a Japanese sentai opening. I even had nightmares when I was little in which I was pursued by evil P-Pals!
Terrifying P-Pal dudes
Those unexpected P-Pal dudes
Terrifying P-Pal dudes
SURPRISE!!!

Way back in the 90s
PBS's mascot
Wasn't Dot or Dash, instead
A 3-headed dude, looks like a gypsy

Scaring little children wasn't its intent
But somehow some people had bad dreams
All thanks to these guys (PBS)

No longer on, they got fired just round '98
P-Pals may be dead, but our bad dreams live on

Terrifying P-Pal dudes
Vandalize us whenever we snooze
PBS, why'd you make such weirdo guys?
Singing dancing P-pal dudes
They're not on the air, but their fanbase lives on
Terrifying P-Pal dudes
SURPRISE!!!

Paco looked a vampire
Pat was in a wheelchair
Pernell was their leader
How the heck do I know?
Google is awesome!

Many different idents
For us ladies and gents
Pianissimo he played piano of sound effects (SPROING CRASH BANG!)

Go on YouTube
And you'll see a few P-Pals on there
Weird Al's song is being sung by them online!!*

Terrifying P-Pal dudes
Riddle Of The Day was their work
One of them wants you to read in the tub
Singing dancing P-Pal dudes
Power To The P-Pals, their theme song
Terrifying P-Pal dudes
SURPRISE!!!

(Instrumental section and guitar solo)

They're on TV, run away as fast as fast can be
Don't dare face the wrath of 90's mascot guys

I'm hoping you may not even remember the Pals
If you don't then stay the heck away from PBS
They may come back some day for their revenge

Terrifying P-Pal dudes
Vandalize us whenever we snooze
PBS, why'd you make such weirdo guys?
Singing dancing P-pal dudes
They're not on the air, but their fanbase lives on
Terrifying P-Pal dudes
PBS!

Terrifying P-Pal dudes
Riddle Of The Day was their work
One of them wants you to read in the tub
Singing dancing P-Pal dudes
Power To The P-Pals, their theme song
Terrifying P-Pal dudes
SURPRISE!!!

Thanks, Tokusou Sentai Blessranger! I'm a huge fan of your parodies, especially Power Rangers Sesame Force. I think I'm gonna go check out more of your parodies right now. I currently have a parody of Iceman's "Lost Complex" saved on my computer. I'll upload it today. GO-ON!

I used to like the p-pals but I was scared of the singing ident. "This is PBSSSSS Whoo hoo arf!" creepy!
DJ Blaze - August 15, 2009 - Report this comment
Thanks for the comment. I'm the exact opposite: I was terrified of them as a child, but now I find them to be a very parodiable subject.

I remember the P-Pals growing up. Scared the living s*** outta me every time. Especially the "SURPRISE" ident
DJ Blaze - September 03, 2009 - Report this comment
I don't remember the "SURPRISE!!!" ident that well, except that it was freaky. Thanks for the comment, Alex.

Haha this is hilarious! I used to be terrified of the PBS ident and the "SURPRISE!" thing when I was little. I used to run behind my grandma's armchair and cover my ears until it was over.
Danielle - June 27, 2010 - Report this comment
Jessica! You said that scared you when you posted a comment in the articile called Logos that scared Me when I Was A Kid.
Danielle - July 04, 2010 - Report this comment
Jessicia, you had an error in that comment. You said: "Well I don't remember any of those logos (since I was born in the 90's), BUT, I used to FREAK OUT at the 1995 PBS kids ident. There were three PBS heads, all cascading behind one another, they were dressed in horrible looking hip-hop accesories (hats, earrings, etc.), they were flashing startling confetti like colors, then they would sing to a horrible little background tune, "THIS IS P.B.SSSSS!" I used to run and hide behind my grandma's sofa whenever the ending theme of a show played! I mean really, if you were 3 years old, wouldnt that scare the living s*** out of you too?! It used to give me nightmares for cripes sakes! I remember one was that it was there, and I tried to close my eyes so I couldn't see it, but I could still see it when I closed my eyes." It should be: "Well I don't remember any of those logos (since I was born in the 90's), BUT, I used to FREAK OUT at the 1993 PBS kids ident. There were three PBS heads, all cascading behind one another, they were dressed in horrible looking hip-hop accesories (hats, earrings, etc.), they were flashing startling confetti like colors, then they would sing to a horrible little background tune, "THIS IS P.B.SSSSS!" haha i was watching youtube poop dw's fire drill today and at the end the p-pals came up and did the surprise ident and i screamed and cried a bit because i did not know it was coming. i searched "p-pals surprise ident" on google and found out there was a longer version.
DJ Blaze - November 20, 2010 - Report this comment
Wow, you watch YouTube Poop? Awesome!
Danielle - November 21, 2010 - Report this comment
YEA it's awesome. did you watch the p-pals surprise ident (longer version)?
DJ Blaze - November 28, 2010 - Report this comment
Yes, that's the one I remember... much creepier. A good YouTube Poop is "IM Meen VS Mr. Roboto".
Danielle - March 13, 2011 - Report this comment
Why is it creepy?
Danielle - November 23, 2011 - Report this comment
Watch "The Sky Had A Weegee!" for laughs. WTF BOOOOOOOOOOOM! Squidward! There was a Weegee outside!
DJ Blaze - December 04, 2011 - Report this comment
HOLY SH(BEEEEEP) SQUIDWARD!!! The sky had a POKEMON from my cereal box! SQUIIIIIIIDWAAAAAAARD!! The sky had a Pokemon! That's not a Pokemon, that's a Gay Luigi!
Danielle - January 01, 2012 - Report this comment
DJ Blaze, you watched "The Sky Had A Weegee!"? Awesome!
DJ Blaze - August 18, 2014 - Report this comment
Ha ha, yes. The funniest part is when the Flying Bowser is going to eat them, and SpongeBob and Patrick laugh until Weegee shows up.
Danielle Pluzsik - January 22, 2016 - Report this comment
I was the one who left that comment in November 2009. Yeah, that ident scared me when I used to watch Teletubbies on VHS. But it was nothing compared to stuff like the hot sauce drop from the SpongeBob episode "Karate Choppers". Good God, that face was creepy. The Surprise ident actually keeps me up at night. ESPECIALLY the longer version.
DJ Blaze - February 15, 2016 - Report this comment
Oh god, the hot sauce drop. *shudders* I remember that. I was a bit older when I saw that, so it didn't scare me as much, but still...

Venjix vs the P-Pals
Danielle - March 07, 2019 - Report this comment
Pernell was their leader... and sounded like Kwame, who was the leader of the Planeteers in Captain Planet. And, of course, both were voiced by LeVar Burton (the host of Reading Rainbow.)
Danielle - November 15, 2020 - Report this comment
I like the P-Pals, but I'm scared of the singing ident and the Surprise ident (to the point where the former is my sleep paralysis demon.) This morning, I had a nightmare about the Surprise ident. It was me and a few other people on a train, looking at PBS Kids shows, and then someone put on a compilation of PBS Kids bumpers, and I closed my eyes knowing what was going to happen, but I still saw the flashing colors when I closed my eyes. :O BTW, the last few posts from DJ Blaze was me pretending to be him. I know better now...
