Song Parodies -> "Spoofing Somethin' Stupid Like a Love Song"

Original Song Title:

"Somethin' Stupid"

Parody Song Title:

"Spoofing Somethin' Stupid Like a Love Song"

Parody Written by:

I Spoof, Therefore Amiright

The Lyrics

Don't make the same mistake I did.
I know I moan and whine
until I think I have the time
to waste an evening with jokes .
And if I put it on the site,
I know I’ll see the light
and I’ll be leaving with yolks.

Then afterwards I rack my tired brain
and all the rhymes go wrong.
And then I go and spoil it all
by spoofing somethin’ stupid like a love song.

I can see it from reviews
that I should use a diff’rent line;
not from the verse before.
And though it’s just one fr*ckin’ line,
it wasn’t fine.
It sounded terse before.
I’m writing ev’ryday to find
some clever lines. No fear I’ll get the gong.
But then I’ll think I’ll wait until my ratings abate
so I won’t face the throng.
And then I go and spoil it all
by spoofing somethin’ stupid like a love song.

I think I’m right.
The O-S swamps my head
as I turn red.
and then I hum along.
And then I go and spoil it all
by spoofing somethin’ stupid like a love song.

A love song.
A love song

(buries head in hands awaiting the hook).

A love song.

(A distance “YOINK” sound is heard off-line).
I own nothing.

Can't understand why I'm the first to vote on this. Shows promise, ISTA..."And though it’s just one fr*ckin’ line" was a standout....but occasionally it wanders about vaguely without quite hitting the mark. Still, worthy of 555

KR: yeah, I was thinking we have an undiscovered new talent here...ISTA, great concept, some great lines, matching, and internal rhyming "OS swamps my head as I turn red" etc.... Pacing is off a little, e.g OS "And afterwards we drop into a quiet little place" -- "Then afterwards I rack my tired brain" is four syllables short. Couple other places also... Work on that, sing your parodies to a good MIDI, keep the good ideas coming, and welcome to AIR. 545

Funny parody, but how about some credit for the first singers to make this a hit?

what TT said about the 4 syllables short, but some funny stuff in here ISTA - esp "leaving with yolks" although a tiny little bit too convenient - I love this OS to parody, and it's a great idea for it - now have a go at destroying "Silly Love Songs" by Wings (even though it's already destroyed itself) - 555

Thanks folks. I know this wasn't my best. Parodies about writer's block never seem to go well for me. To Frank and Nancy, I should probably say that the newer version was the one I was listening to, so that's why I put that one down. Robbie sucks but Nicole is an infinitely better singer than Nancy IMO. Since the notes and rhythm vary so little it can be quite easy to loose track. I'll have to go and find a Wings CD now. I've only heard "Silly Love Songs" in "Elephant Love Medley" and I've only heard one Macca song that I like: "Hot as Sun". Although technically the version I'm thinking of was sung by Elaine Paige. Kinda surreal to say the least. Thanks again, ISTA

ISTA wrote: "Since the notes and rhythm vary so little it can be quite easy to loose track." ....One way to deal with that is to make a (hard or soft) copy of OS lyrics. Compare the syllables and accents in the parody with the OS. Count syllables on fingers, if necessary. Hope that helps!

Thanks TT, usually I use my fingers and a copy of the OS on a web page, but I found this one especially difficult. Sorry I took so long responding; I've had various problems with my computer.
