The Lyrics

After all the parodies about gay people and religion, a comment in Philip Yancey's book "What's so amazing about grace?" inspired this. Yancey quotes a gay man: "As a gay man, I find it easier to get sex on the streets than a hug in church". I'm not gay but I find Fred Phelps and his ilk revolting (keep writing, Susanna!). Yancey remarks that whilst many Christians believe that they should show both love and judgment, most gay churchgoers find only judgment. Seems we're all obsessed with hating the sin and forgot about loving the sinner.
Those guys who follow Christ
Sent me an invitation
To come along to church
And get some information
I don't hurt kids at all
I don't embezzle pay
It's not that I don't like God
It's just that I am gay

I'm getting judged for my sin
I can hardly begin to say hello
I'd just like to be friends
But I have to pretend or just not go
I'm getting judged for my sin

I'm trying to be good
You say that's not enough
Can't be a sinner here
I just can't earn your love

Everyone who's heavenbound
Sees my crimes and gives a frown
Say there's something wrong with me
I'm not the way I ought to be
Judgment day is all they see

I'm getting judged for my sin
No smiles I see
I'm getting judged for my sin
No amazing grace for me
Don't wanna hurt no one
'Hate sin' but 'love the sinner'
You talk of God's great love, but people
You won't have me to dinner

Everyone who's heavenbound
Sees my crimes and gives a frown
Say there's something wrong with me
I'm not the way I ought to be
Judgment day is all they see

I'm getting judged for my sin
I can hardly begin to say hello
I'd just like to be friends
But I have to pretend or just not go
I'm getting judged for my sin

I'm getting judged for my sin
I can hardly begin
I just can't win

yeah, don't you hate that "It's their sinful choice" stand.......because why would anyone CHOOSE to be part of a maligned minority......I always reckon there's suppression going on behind their detest - good biting parody - I like bite - 555

good parody... good message... :) You know what they say, "It's better to reign in hell, than to serve in heaven."

Thanks guys for the votes & comments (thanks too, Mr and Mrs One Guy). Ashkicksass - I'm still in the church, but I hate the apathy and judgment I see in some other Christians. Stuart - yeah, I hate it too! People make out that it's an easy casual choice, which is rubbish. The sad thing is, there actually are Christians and churches who do show love and acceptance to gay people, but these get a lot of bashing from the other group. Christianity is spreading the message that to be a Christian, you first have to get rid of anything wrong with your life (they get to define "wrong"). This is nonsense - it may be an old cliche that Jesus never said anything about homosexuality, but I seriously can't imagine him refusing to associate with someone just because they're gay.
I think I'd rather serve in Heaven though. My God is one of forgiveness and grace :)
