The Lyrics

Parody of a parody X54! This one is about the AC-47 "Spooky" gunship (aka Puff the Magic Dragon) that fought in Vietnam. The cargo plane was converted for a little over $4 million each and mounted 3x GE SUU-11/A Mini-guns on the port side (2x rear windows and 1x rear cargo door). The gunners would hand-toss flares over the target area and then the pilot would aim the guns through a simple port side sight. And then the gunners fired away at 6,000 rpm per gun= 18,000 rpm of .30 cal ammo. VC sites were decimated, soldiers cut to pieces and everything torn apart. The AC-47s flew low at around 3000 ft to loiter and pick off enemy targets using a simple pylon turn for the firing arc. Speed was 150 mph. The gunships proved very effective and led to latter C-119 and C-130 conversions.
C-47 was great for convertin‘,
gunships for $4 million comin’ off the line
Flying, tearing into VC; crucial: firing!
Cut into the trees and brush—during night time!

(Flares illuminate the targets fine!)

Pilot’s port sight allowed the three guns to swivel;
18,000 rpm tore things apart
Port firepower became a terror;
low altitude loiter deployed
In ‘Nam it brought much fear, when on attack
Chances of survival under “Spooky’s” guns were stark

Got flyin‘ after dark, Mini-guns got smoked up

Dragon was Puff, after PPM’s song name
Forces scatter, VC hide outs- Quick! Depart!
Through the tall trees; blistering firepower:
illuminated by tossed flares
108,000 rounds per hour
gunships proved to be a scourge; targets were marked

Operating from Thailand they played their part,
whenever they showed up—pylon turn for firing arc
Gunners poured fire into hillside bunkers- was smart;
weapons stored blown-up; destroyed by aerial shark.
Symbol of America‘s might. With a loud bark:
hail of bullets turned VC into fleshy pink parts. . .
Blood river runs down the hills as “Spooky” departs!!!

And one we go. I have a title at least.

This one may be my last. I barely got in in last night under a lot of pain. I forced myself to do it and fell back on my military knowledge. I had "Puff" so immediately thought cannon, rocket launcher, or guns... went with the mini-guns and got the full title. Wrote line-by-line off the top of my head. I could have done "BUFF" too ;-)
