The Lyrics

I really don't like the use of a lot of emoticons (emotion icons), or obsessive emoticonning. I'm guilty of this too. After this guy discovers he can use emoticons, he takes it way too far until he becomes an emoticon!
Verse 1: I wanna text this girl
But here’s what’s wrong with text
Ain’t got no tone or feel
Won’t know how to inflect
What if she takes the message wrong?
Like chicks have in the past
This could be my last
Must do something real fast!
Whatever to do?
Make it good…
Don’t wanna be screwed! Screw it, screw it, oh Lord, Lord
If I could… yeah
Oh wait!

Chorus: Emoticons! Emoticons! Yeah do’em
You see it’s not what the words say
When you put a little smiley
Emoticons! Yeah do’em

Verse 2: Here we go now
When I get on Facebook I use them in my posts
And in my term paper, I switch them in for quotes
And it is not wrong until my face gets close, and gets froze
Now emoticons transpose!
Now whatever I do…
You know my mood!
So whatever I do! Do it, do it, oh Lord, Lord
Know my mood

Chorus: Emoticons! Don’t do’em!
Emoticons! Don’t do’em!
See there’s no substitution
For expressing your true feelings
Emoticons! Don’t do’em!
Switch it up, hey!

Bridge: Lose those pouts and smiles
They show lack of good style
Show me you know words, oh
There’s nothing wrong with vocab, it’s so rad
Now let’s try one more time!

Chorus: Emoticon! Skip those buttons now
Emoticons! Won’t do’em
So it’s not ‘bout the icons?
It’s about the content within?
Emoticons! Won’t do’em
Emoticons! Won’t do’em
Emoticons! Won’t do’em
But it’s okay to sometimes
Put a winky face or two, right?

Outro: Emoticons!
Oo, on your phone now
Yeah, on your phone now
Oo, on your phone now
Yeah, on your phone now
Emoticons!
Oo, on your phone now
Yeah, on your phone now
Oo, on your phone now
Yeah, on your phone now
Oo, on your phone now
Yeah, on your phone now
Oo, on your phone now
Yeah, on your phone now
[Fade out]

According to 'scientific research,' over-use of emoticons is most common in women who lack self-confidence. Well thanks for THAT nugget, boffin-heads, way to make us feel better..! I'm giving this a 555 - and then I'm going to slink away and never speak of this again ;^)

Blayde - I changed the colored blocks on my late 70's cube puzzle to emoticons. I call it my "Rubi-con". I think Caesar is planning to sue me. Good job. ;D

Didn't know what song it was until it started playing...nice work! I like the title switch and there some pretty funny lines in here. Good job

Hate to say it, but this didn't grab me at all. Rhyming "do" with "mood" was kind of well, not really rhyming. Seemed to be written very quickly. Sorry, B.

I once spelt emoticon as "emocon" :(

(ABC) Interesting twist on the OS' theme. Express yourself...but not with tiny faces, that's just stupid. The ending was a bit repetitive, but otherwise this was really good. 555!

This was a pretty decent parody. Good take on a OS I never seen parodied before and original topic but I really wish there was some more OOMPH to this parody: :-)

Clever! And no emoticons in the parody itself. I'm trying to get through this whole comment without emoticons.

(Side note: the ad above the lyrics is for an emoticon site must have some context detection going on there.) I like how you posed a problem in the first verse then the chorus revealed the solution but the solution turned out to be a problem. I also like the fact that EMOTICONS allow you to EXPRESS YOURSELF! Favorite line, “Won’t know how to inflect”

Dkos, but Glen's comment made me curious. Good topic, good attitude and and good job. Have some 555s for that, and for giving me a chance to state the following:

There's this thing on our keyboards called the alphabet, and when arranged in a certain way according to phonetic rules, it spells words which represent meanings and emotions. There are a lot of other symbols, mainly used to set rhythms and pauses and logical links and sequences called punctuation. Making cute pictures with them is not their purpose, and I almost always think less of any writer who uses them that way. There! My rant of the day. I can shut up now. I'm smiling.
