The Lyrics

In 1942, both the British and the Germans reached the same conclusion for jamming radar- cut strips to counter wavelengths dropped in bundles or from canisters at height to blanket an area where the multitude of false returns would block radar effectively. The British called their version Window and the Germans called theirs Duppel. Although Window jamming is well-known for WW2, the German usage is not. Goering thought that it was too important to use as the British might copy it so it took until 1943 when the Brits used theirs for Duppel drops to be made. At that time, Germany was on the air defense countering daylight raids and so the bomber force dwindled. Germany was also developing the V-Weapons that would hit London in 1944. Nevertheless, two high targets were Bristol harbor and Anzio harbor when the MTO opened up. Ju-188 "Illuminator" pathfinders started to drop Duppel on approach to a target and then all the way to target. The Germans used AB-36 canisters for dispersion. Duppel worked fine but the actual raids by Ju-88 bombers did not do well anyway (weather, heavy AAA, fighters). The Kriegsmarine used a balloon version at sea with attached strips to foil U-boat hunters- that was called Aphrodite and the Luftwaffe version was called Seifenblasen (Soap Bubbles) which accidentally got mixed in with the Foo Fighter phenomenon reported by Allied airman from France to Italy and Germany. Duppel itself became ineffective when the British introduced centimetric radar and there were scare bombing raids in 1945 anyway. Duppel was used from Late 1943-May 1944.
[Verse 1]
Bomber 88* to the target (To the target)
(Drops) strip stuff
Aphrodite Kriegsmarine balloon duty (Came in handy)
Strip stuff
Anti-radar strips, wavelength dimensions (Made for jamming)
Strip stuff
Seifenblasen** (Soap bubbly)
Strip stuff

[Pre-Chorus]
In ‘42 found a solution
Crammed the stuff into aerial canisters
False returns kept radars jammin’
Duppel strip stuff! Duppel strip stuff!

Inbound to the target (to the target)
Inbound to the target (to the target)
Inbound to the target (to the target)
Canisters, Canisters (to the target)
Inbound to the target (to the target)
Inbound to the target (to the target)
Inbound to the target (to the target)
With strip stuff, With strip stuff (to the target)

[Chorus]
Silver foil in the sky
Radar searching denied
It covered the bombers above
Bombers above
Out of pathfinders hurled
188s supplied
It covered the bombers above

Strip stuff

[Verse 2]
Rained down in clusters, crazy
Effective jammin'
Radar slammin'
Strip stuff
Fell from sky to land
Bomber to the target (to the taret)
Strip stuff

[Pre-Chorus]
In ‘42 found a solution
Crammed the stuff into aerial canisters
False returns kept radars jammin’
Duppel strip stuff! Duppel strip stuff!

Inbound to the target (to the target)
Inbound to the target (to the target)
Inbound to the target (to the target)

*** Bettie Ford was a young British girl that stayed in the South to witness the German bombing raids. In 1944 she saw a rainbow of rain above her house and silver strips on the trees, like it had been snowing. This gave the impression of Xmas in summer, but it was only Duppel strips!
**** not enough Duppel, not enough bombers, not enough time!!!
