The Lyrics

As in the long-running comic strip, not the delicious snack.
Woodstock and Snoopy
Have fun in their made-up worlds
And poor old Charlie
Well, he will never get the girl
And that Linus is rather wise
For a *suck* thumb-sucking geek
But one thing keeps me up all night
It's a question I ask all week

Why's it called Peanuts, why, dude?
Charlie Brown he sure has bad luck in scores
Why's it called Peanuts, why, dude?
And that girl Lucy is an attention whore

Why's it called Peanuts, Peanuts, Peanuts?
Why's it called Peanuts, Peanuts, Peanuts?
Why's it called Peanuts, Peanuts, Peanuts?
Why's it called Peanuts, Peanuts, Peanuts?

Doesn't fit the story
About a miserable lad
(The world's most unlucky lad)
Even on Halloween
His rotten luck gets him bad
(He got a rock!)
Schroeder plays classical all day
And he *gasp* loves Beethoven
This strip ran for 'bout 50 years
But the title still makes no sense

Why's it called Peanuts, why, dude?
Peppermint Patty's failed a test or five
Why's it called Peanuts, why, dude?
Her and Marcie might be lesbians, might

Why's it called Peanuts, Peanuts, Peanuts?
Why's it called Peanuts, Peanuts, Peanuts?
Why's it called Peanuts, Peanuts, Peanuts?
Why's it called Peanuts, Peanuts, Peanuts?
Why's it called Peanuts?

Please explain it, please
You know it makes no sense
No, it doesn't at all, dude
Not even a bit, dude
But I read, but I read
Lil' Folks was the title Schulz wanted
That is what he wanted, why didn't he get it?
Comic strip honchos, the hell's wrong with you?

Why's it called Peanuts, why, dude?
Snoopy got beat up by the cat next door
Why's it called Peanuts, why, dude?
His kennel's got some room, is he a Time Lord?

Why's it called Peanuts, Peanuts, Peanuts?
Why's it called Peanuts, Peanuts, Peanuts?
Why's it called Peanuts, Peanuts, Peanuts?
Why's it called Peanuts, Peanuts, Peanuts?
Why's it called Peanuts, why, dude?
Confession: this parody was written entirely for the "I got a rock" sub, fo' serious.

5s. Answer: b/c Shulz created a comic strip called Li'l Folks that turned into what the Editors changed into "Peanuts" which is supposed to represent small children. Schulz didn't like it, but was stuck and it gained popularity nonetheless :)

Errrr... I guess that makes sense. Must be 1940s lingo because I never heard to kids referred to as peanuts before. I love this tribute to an awesome comic though. You should check out my tribute to Peanuts too: http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/coldplay114.shtml (Oh, I guess you already did!)

You remember well. Too bad Sparky didn't live to be 100. He's badly needed.

Good work, Conq. Nice take on the subject, and loved the time lord reference to the kennel. I always remember how Snoopy had his Van Gogh in there, amongst other items.
