The Lyrics

Uh-oh, footnotes!
Look down to ground, come now, espy
Come and see the wigglers with fame renowned
They have no tail, and no limbs--what hell!
Nor eyes have they to see the stars

They are so special, 'neath the dust
The squiggling creatures on the Ark
With segmentation, their nests bustling with life

Dig in the fields of green, in dirt they breathe
Their life so fine when mold count's high
Look like pasta to your eyes? Oh my-my!
May nauseate you

What do they darest to hath?
They plow a grungy path
Squirm amongst the grass
All the spineless worms cylindrical
They're not aware at all
For fish bait, make the call
No bleatings and no snark
From spineless worms cylindrical

The Epigeic first inside
Endogeic next, those are spied
Then see the Anecic(1)
In the deep dark, so rarely in daylight

Digging down into the grasses
The Annelidae(2) find their way
Swerve and turn, they sure are feisty ones
Wrap a few around your thumb!

Watch on a sidewalk scene, in summer's eve
With rain, not dry, they reach out high
Stretch out on pavement, oh those guys, oh my-my!
They're saying "Hi!" to you!

Dig under the crust
You'll see their mighty swath
'Neath the growing grass
Every spineless worm cylindrical
Use their prostomium(3)
If they have any sense at all
See wriggling at the park
The spineless worms cylindrical

(boring symphonic interlude that sounds like an Alan Parsons Project outtake)

Back in old days past
At school time, before Math
Scared a helpless lass
With spineless worms cylindrical
'Fore I start moving on
There's a kid's book, I recall(4)
Try eating as a lark
The spineless worms cylindrical!

This parody is crawling with both entertainment and education! I'll take the bait and will be the first to say I dig it! Not sure why you thought "Spineless worms cylindrical" wasn't apt for its title though, the "Behold the earthworm! (an ode)" could just as well have been the first part of the intro comment instead. Then again now you can still do "Spineless worms political" next they have an election where you live, he-he!

I do like it when you bring education to us Aggy. This was a great little ditty about the earthworm almost on par with your tune about chiggers. You and bugs man... Why are you always bugging out? It bugs me!

While educational parodies are sometimes a let down (depending on the topic), this was actually pretty good. I really liked the last chorus the best though...probably because it was more storytelling than educational. Still, nicely done (and I love the "spineless worms cylindrical"...fits pretty nicely!)

Way to worm your way through.

(Artistry) Though there were some pacing issues here and there, this was a surprisingly engaging parody. Definitely the best thing I've ever read about worms. 555!

I felt like I was back in my Invertebrate Zoology lab course, but way more fun. Very educational, and silly. But I would've enjoyed a little more of a story to it. Like a why are we getting this I got type thing.
