The Lyrics

I am currently playing Dr. Lyman Hall, delegate from Georgia, in The Concord Players production of the musical "1776". I've been working on parodies for the show's songs (of course!), and I'd like to share with you one of my "1776" parodies: "Prude Prude Inhibited Men" - a parody of the song-and-dance number "Cool Cool Considerate Men" in which John Dickinson leads the conservatives in a musical statement of their reluctance to risk their personal fortunes in a war for independence from England. Here is a link to a MIDI audio file of the entire song "Cool Cool Considerate Men" : ...... http://www.hamienet.com/6613.mid ..... And here is a link to the original lyrics of "Cool Cool Considerate Men": ..... http://thespia.topcities.com/1776/1776songs.html#cool
(The parody's basic theme is that John Adams is a Patriotic Exhibitionist who never wears anything below the waist, and who is therefore trying to get Congress to approve a Declaration of Public Nudity)

(DICKINSON: )
Ohh-say
Do
You
See what I see?

Congress sitting here in breeches modestly

'Tis such grace
Upon this space
To not see John Adams place
Johnson in our face

And put
His buns before our eyes
His breeches down his thighs
And reveal what's in his fly

I say hose honor, hose honor!

(CONSERVATIVES: )
Hose honor! Hose honor!

(DICKINSON: )
And we're prudes.

Come ye prude, prude, conservative kin
Our tights may never ever re-veal our skin

We wear pants
When we dance
There's no chance
That our pants

Won't disguise
From ev'ry woman's eyes
That gaze upon us guys
Our well-endow-ed thighs

Come sing hose honor, hose honor!

(CONSERVATIVES: )
Hose honor! Hose honor!

(DICKINSON: )
In our breeding and our manner,

(CONSERVATIVES: )
We are prudes.

(DICKINSON: )
Come ye prude, prude, inhibited set
Our pants together will stay on, dry or wet

We're up-tight
Ever so up-tight
Never have we left
The house without our tights

Let our rule
Be always to be cool
And never like a fool
Display a fam'ly jewel

(CONSERVATIVES: )
Come sing hose honor! Hose honor!

(DICKINSON: )
Emblazoned, on our banner, is "Be Prude".

( instrumental )

(CONSERVATIVES: )
What we wear
We
Wear
So modestly

(DICKINSON: )
We never, ever go out half-dressed, not we!

(CONSERVATIVES: )
Why begin
To start showing off our skin

(DICKINSON: )
For if we show our skin
You'll see that we aren't thin

(RUTLEDGE: )
We say John Adams acts so crudely
Why should we dress nudely?

(CONSERVATIVES: )
We prude, prude men.

( instrumental )

(spoken)

(DICKINSON: )
Mr. Hancock -- you're a man of modesty -- one of us. Why don't you join us in our minuet? Why do you persist in dressing like John Adams? Good Lord, sir, you don't even like him.

(singing)

(HANCOCK: )
That is true
I'm annoyed to see his fuzz
But still I get a buzz
Showing my Johnson like he does

(spoken)

(DICKINSON: )
But why -- for personal glory? For a place in history?
Be careful, sir -- history will brand Mr. Adams and his followers as flashers!

(HANCOCK: )
Flashers of what, Mr. Dickinson -- the American soul, or the American flag-pole?
Fortunately there are not enough men of modesty in America to dictate dress-codes.

(DICKINSON: )
Perhaps not...but don't forget that most men with almost nothing would rather protect the illusion of being
well-endowed than expose their infinitesimal manhood ... and that is why, they will dress like us!

(singing)

(CONSERVATIVES: )
So up-tight
Ever so up-tight
Never have we left
The house without our tights

When it's cold
A codpiece made of gold
On Johnson we will hold
Pretending to be bold

(DICKINSON: )
I sing hose honor! Hose honor!
In a sane, and lucid manner,
We are prudes!

(CONSERVATIVES: )
We're the prude, prude, inhibited men,
Whose like may never ever be seen again!

We wear pants
When we dance
There's no chance
That our pants

Will feel cold
A codpiece made of gold
On Johnson we will hold
Pretending to be bold

We say John Adams acts so crudely!
Why should we dress nudely?

We
Prude,
Prude,
Prude,
Prude,
Prude,
Prude -

Prude,
Prude,
Prude,
Prude,
Prude,
Prude -

Prude -- Prude -- MEN !!!

Thank you, Adagio . . . did the link to the MIDI work?

WOW!!! As a former John Dickinson, I have to say that you have topped yourself with this one! =)

Thank you, "Reverend Emerson" !!

'did the link to the MIDI work?' - not really, Johnny, unless I wanted to join and have them send me fake hair products.
Johnny D - April 29, 2004 - Report this comment
That's weird - I am still able to listen and/or download the MIDI's for free, no strings attached. Right now, in fact, I'm listening to this song's MIDI from that URL, and I didn't have to sign up for anything.....should I email you the MIDI files as attachments?
Adagio - April 29, 2004 - Report this comment
Sure, Johnny. I get to the point to where it has the link and I say goodie, but the when I click on it, it tells me to register. With weird products and mailing address, etc.

Johnny D - Great job! 5's. The midi didn't work for me, either, but I pulled up the lyrics from the site you gave for that. It might be something with my PC - I did SOMETHING late last night that started causing some problems and I see a couple "Java" error messages posted up on my desktop. Guess I'll read them and see if I can figure out what the heck they mean.

Mr, Smalls you have an ANNOYING habit of making such delightful words as "modesty" sound quite distasteful! In Heaven's name what's WRONG with modesty? Johnny, this may be the best of the bunch so far. There is method in this madness and you really nailed this parody. "Hose honor" is a real groaner, lol! The way you parody Dickinson's line about people voting for the chance of getting rich by comparing it to the "illusion" of being well-endowed is sheer brilliance. You are so damned clever it's almost scary. 555 again!
Johnny D - May 01, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks, Paul!

Thanks, Stray Pooch - this is the toughest number in the whole show for yours truly - we conservatives have to dance a "minuet" while singing four (or is it five?) part harmony! After "Cool Cool Considerate Men" is over, I relax and the rest of the performance is a piece of cake! Thanks again.
