I just had the most wonderful weekend. Last Wednesday, copy number 3,444 (of a limited edition of 4,000) of "My Son, The Box," a 6-CD set of almost everything ever recorded by Allan Sherman, arrived at my door. I've been playing it ever since. It was a humbling experience to hear the master at work--especially his brilliant, previously unreleased Jewish spoof of "My Fair Lady." The following is in honor of Allan Sherman's contribution the world of musical parodies--and to celebrate his birthday, which, as anyone who owns a copy of "My Son, The Celebrity" knows, is November 30.
Allan Sherman, he was funny
And so briefly, made good money
Jewish humor, made this boy laugh
And he was so funny, he even made Goys laugh
He wrote songs like Al 'n Yetta
Sara Jackman sounded betta
Then that stupid, folkie French song
And the liverwurst has been sitting there too long
You remember Harry Lewis?
Uncle Max and themes so Jewish
Oh his gags were very funny
And he often used words that were kinda punny

Loved it. I like Allen Sherman's work. My sister hated the original parody. Each time she hears that movement of "The Dance of the Hours" the OS, I suppose you'd call it, she grumbles "F--- Allen Sherman"! I too have ruined a song or two for her. Hee-hee!
