Song Parodies -> "Poor Me!"

Original Song Title:

"Born Free"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Andy Williams

Parody Song Title:

"Poor Me!"

Parody Written by:

Fiddlegirl and Tommy Turtle

The Lyrics

OS was sung by Matt Monro in the eponymous movie for which it was the theme, but judging by TT's previousspins on TOS, no one's ever heard of Monro. (Including TT, who misspelled MM's last name in the second spin. Maybe his mind was on "Marilyn"? lol ;).

Speaking of "poor" - the poor Fiddlegirl is swamped with the usual back-to-school duties (studying martial arts for self-defense, taking classes in Politically-Correct Teaching, etc.), and though graciously collaborated over the weekend on these two posts today, may not be available to reply to comments. TT will try to combine her tact and charm with his, uh .... TT-ness. (Yeah, we'll see how well *that* goes! ;)

Poor me!
I'm freezing, as wind blows
I can't afford gas, clothes;
Poor me: "pink-slipped", and depart

Live "free"
A blanket on ground? Do!
No roof, walls, surround you
But, my! What view of the stars!

Hey, "B"! --
You said, "Jobs provide", true?
But each month the numbers slide   [1]
Our "Hope, Belief"? It's died!

Talk's free   [2]
Much harder to live it
Come 2012: give it --
-- back: White ... House, please!

[1] Zero jobs created in August; unemployment numbers won't drop, and are understated by both the vast number who've just given up looking and by those who are underemployed (e. g., only working part-time when they'd rather work full time); and the percentage of Americans living in poverty is the highest since 1993.

[2] Or "cheap", according to the old saying, but if you have to ride in a private 747 (plus a separate private jet for your wife, who's racked up ten million miles of sheer vacation time in it), it turns out it's actually quite expensive. ;)

The only word cooler than "eponymous" is "anemone" -- TT. (FG: T's weird, but he's worth it. ;)

FG - Hang in, for retirement is paradise. TT - I DO know Matt Munro (I believe he sang the title song for "From Russia With Love"). When I hear a fine voice that I don't instantly recognize, I always guess Matt Munro and I'm usually correct. Nice collaboration once again. ;D

Patrick: Thanks! (that was for FG) Nice analysis of SS disability. (that was moi). Thanks for v/c (duet).

Old Man Ribber: Not according to what I've heard, lol.... I'm sure FG knows of Matt, although either she'd spell it "Monro", or Wikipedia is wrong - as TT was 50% of the time. ;) Thanks for v/c.

3-3-3 Voter: "Funny" is totally subjective - no argument. But please point out the numerous pacing errors that brought this to a "3" on pacing, so that we can learn from our mistakes. Thanks. ... btw... anonymous down-votes don't carry a whole lot of credibility anyway, and confusing "I don't like this" with "It''s poorly paced" is typical of anonymous cowards.

(OK, that was definitely *not* FG speaking! ;-D )

Security code 36C? Fiddle! You *did* make it here!

I remember the music of Matt Monro very well from my childhood. He was one of my dad's favourite singers, along with Andy Williams & Jim Reeves. I was just getting into Black sabbath & Deep Purple, so you can probably guess what I thought of them. I see that this is written from the point of view of people who live a bit further north ;)
Re what Patrick said about garage sales - you don't have to pay any tax when you sell something that's already your own property, do you? We don't.

Dang flippers - typo'd my esteemed partner's name, which is why it's not linked, nor showing in our "Latest Comments" page.

What was said about FG being too busy: Thank goodness! ;-O

Andy Primus: Nights are already dropping into the low 50sF/11C where FG lives, which would be a bit chilly with no clothes and no shelter. ;-D -- and it'll get colder before it gets warmer.

*Buyers* ;pay a "sales tax" (hmmm - should be called a "buy" tax...) on all retail sales. Theoretically, that should include private sales, but except for a vehicle, which must be re-registered in the new owner's name, the enforcement is too difficult,.so they don't bother.

Internet sales have been a target, with some states trying to tax them (what if I bought it from Germany?), and others not --- yet. A National Sales Tax has been proposed as an alternative to the inefficient and widely-flouted Income Tax, which even the pols agree is flawed, though they disagree on what is a flaw and what isn't. (POV).

Internal Revenue Code (Income tax) is about 8 million words, and surely no one person knows it all. And I'll stop calling you Shirley. Thanks for v/c.

AFW: I don't like living in that State Of Mind - I'd rather move to a richer one. ;) Thanks for v/c.
