Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

It was 2002,
Another dismal dark December Day,
Strom Thurmond had a party,
Because he'd lived a century,
At dinner time Trent Lott
Stood up to talk some after they dined
And he was whoopin' and a hollerin'
That the old man was just so fine,
And then he said the words
That got a few folks to sit up straight--
He told 'em that he wished old Strom
Had won it back in '48."

The people there just laughed it off
And passed around the blackeyed peas.
"Old Trent never had a lick of sense,
Pass the biscuits please.
And wouldn't have what problems?
--well he's really shot his mouth off now,
And 'course there was no way that Strom
Could win that thing anyhow.
He should 'a just said 'happy day'
and skipped the Dixiecrat verbiage,
But now I'm tellin' you that Trent has gone
Jumped off the segregation bridge."

A year has come and gone
Since we heard the news 'bout Trent and Strom,
Trent's back in Pascagoula,
Guess he's livin' with his mom,
There's an election comin' round,
Primary comin' in the spring,
But now Trent just doesn't seem
To wanna do much of anything,
Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good
Down in 'Sip-aye-yea...
Just look at how old Trent just up
and threw that Senate job away.

Great song! It's been a year already? Thanks for the reminder. This is what happens to people when they only open their mouth to change feet.

Jumped off the segregation bridge - good line. Your first two amiright parodies are good, Mike. I hope you continue.

Credit for using "verbiage," but you forgot two verses, and also forgot to mention that Ol' Strom has met his Maker, just like "Papa" in the original. Can't give this any higher than a three.

Thanks for the good words, or the frank feedback, as the case may be.... Hasn't been a year until December, Guy, that's just poetry. Michael, where does it say you gotta match the original verse for verse? The goal is to write a funny song, not to compulsively 'echo' the original. Parodies always risk running the gag into the ground. I think shorter is often better. BTW, Strom hadn't passed yet when I wrote this, but now that he has, something like what you say becomes a good idea. Thanks for your commets.
