Parody Song Title:

"I Bought A Dog"

Parody Written by:

Red Ant

The Lyrics

Thanks goes out to AFW for reminding me of this song...
[intro]

Companions rock so I ... bought one
I got a dog he's an ... odd mutt
I got a dog he's an ... odd mutt

He's mellon-collie, don't like ... to run
Blood shot, withdrawn, and he's ... not fun
But barks 'til dawn that's un ... -awesome

He then goes crazy and he wags his tail
And licks you with his tongue
But then your face goes completely pale
Because the dog just licked ... his bum
He gnawed and clawed at his ... dog rump

[instrumental break]

I tried to train him but he ... won't come
I call the dog and he ... won't come
I call the dog but he ... won't come

I feed him healthy but he ... wants none
But like all dogs he loves ... yum-yums
Just like a dog to love ... yum-yums

He chases traffic and I'll feel so bad
a-when his time has come
He's the best son of a bitch that I've had!
I love my dog though he's ... so dumb
(I'll fix that dog: deball ... scrotum!)

[dog runs and hides under bed]

"C'mere boy!"

I don't think he's gonna come out from under the bed (I wouldn't).... TMGLTM, extra points for varying the chorus internally, and the SOB line was so good that it overshadows the fact that it didn't quite scan.... Five... gimme five... C'mon, boy, gimme five.... You can do it... c'mon dog, gimme damn five already... Stupid mutt!

Re: continuing discussion of reliable OS lyrics, lemme throw out sumpin' that I threw out last year... any way that this site could let you post the actual OS lyrics that you used, maybe in a little window next to your parody?... Would help readers who DKTOS... and if a parody didn't pace properly to the version of OS that IK, but the author showed the version used and it paced properly to that one, I'd 5 them on pace.

I'm gonna sing this to my dogs! What would life be without dogs? Ah, give me a dog and a good parody...and I'm happy!
Jango - January 10, 2007 - Report this comment
What fun; my favorite line is "I called the dog and he...won't come" because of the cute "paws" as you wait for him to obey. If my kitty were still here he'd be laughing too, but alas--- he's gone--- and my neighbor still has his two stoopid dogs. 3 sets of 5 claws up, I'd give ya more if i could!

Re: OS lyrics: Agree with what you said at "Goose Her". Posting OS on 00s is a great idea. I can't ask everyone to do this just 'cuz I DK most of the last 30 years' music, but it does help this reptile/fossil, as does MIDI or mp3. (Your Van Halen would have been meaningless to me without it.)

Before taking up ChuckyG's disc space and bandwidth, though, do you have any idea how many other people actually consult such things?
jango - January 10, 2007 - Report this comment
The above idea sounds good, I would probably use it at least sometimes. It might get me to vote on more songs. It's really nice when someone takes the time to look up the OS when they don't know it and sometimes you only remember parts of it. Not that anyone was asking me, but maybe you were asking for random comments.

Thanks go out to Alvin, Matthias, Rex, TT, Jonathan, 2Eagle, Susanna, Kristof, Yoidy, PMS, Jack W, Step-chan, Merry, Pat, Mr. Spear and jango for all the woof-terful comments.

Tommy Turtle: As far as I know, I am the first (and only) to post "completed lyrics" on inthe00s.com and then link them through the parody. That page does have nearly 2000 hits, but it's hard to say how many of them came from people looking at my Metallica parody album. The only reason I did it for that project was I knew there would be a 100% DKTOS factor (i.e., no one would know any of the songs I was parodying), and even though I had MIDIs for all of the songs as well, they were of such poor quality to be nearly useless. In the end, all that extra work might have garnered me perhaps 5 votes more (over 11 songs) than I would have gotten with no links at all.

As for sucking up ChuckyG's bandwidth, yeah, providing lyrics takes up a little, but there are numerous threads in the forum over 100 pages long (some over 1000), so one more small thread isn't really going to do much resource-wise.

PS to TT: It's ironic that with all the talk I do about how crappy lyrics sites generally are that the second site I went to before making this parody was not only 100% complete, but formatted as perfectly as I could ever hope: the "..." between lines was actually in the site's lyrics, so I kept it, though I probably would have used a hyphen and spaces (" - ") had it not been done so.

I'm with TT- I don't know any of the newer songs...usually avoid reading their parodies...ya gotta hear the OS to appreciate the parody, no matter how good or how fuunny it may be.

Re: Web OS lyrics: Conclusion seems to be that for most parodies, if there's a halfway-decent OS on the web, a link to it would suffice, but not for some, as with your Metallica project. I have a monster project in mind where posting one's own OS version at 00s sounds like a great idea. Will use 00s (hey, "use 00s" rhymes!) as needed.

Re: Your suggested spin-off of "Goose Her On The Sly In Thigh Mound": Done. Fantastic idea. (The spin-off gave me yet another idea, which posted with it.) Thanks.

Chuck A. Spear: Glad I'm not the only fossil here :)

(ABC4-I) I have three border collies and they all thought this was dogone funny. Unlike your "dumb" dog - mine are sometimes too smart for my liking. They are 10 times better for security at ten times less pay than a minimum wage rent a cop. No one even thinks about messing around my crib. Well done Mr. Ant. Say. do you have any nieces and/or nephews? Do they call you uncle Ant?

One of the cutest you've ever done and with a line like "(I'll fix that dog: deball ... scrotum!)" cute generally isn't what I call a Red Ant parody, but other than that this was a pretty cute one. Oh and let me mention... MUCH BETTER THAN BOB RIVERS!!!!
Cat - December 27, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC) Woof! This song doesn't look like a real arf-fort, but you certainly deserve ap-paws. (Okay, I know, lame.)

By the way, how could you have to be "reminded" of this song when a million punk bands have covered it?

Thanks Guy & IB & & T-COP & Laurie & Stu & Dave & Aggy & Matt & Cat!

Guy: I have a few nieces... they don't know about the "Red Ant" persona.

IB: Cursing is best when it isn't cursing!

Matt: I don't know if Bob Rivers has done this song... if he did, chances are it's incomplete, just like the rest of his parodies.

Aggy: This is one of those songs that takes about 10 minutes to write if the chorus is repeated. It was a bit harder varying most lines.

Matt: Yeah, this one is a style departure from most of my other parodies this year.

Cat: I knew this song had been covered by a lot of people, but the one that surprised me the most was Bobby Fuller: TOS was performed by Sonny Curtis and The Crickets.
