The Lyrics

When the term "forgotten President" comes up, then, and only then, do we remember Millard Fillmore. Most of us hear the name Fillmore and think of Bill Graham's psychedelic auditoriums in San Francisco and New York's Lower East Side.
Forgotten, is old Millard Fillmore.
Forgotten, we don't seem to care.
He stepped in for Zachary Taylor
and history asks, "Was he even there?"

Little girl, I just can't seem to tell more.
He'll slip your mind, you wait and see.
He had his chance then, but he did not advance then.
Forgotten, way back in history.

(Forgotten, is old Millard Fillmore.
Forgotten, we don't seem to care.)
He stepped in for Zachary Taylor
and history asks, "Was he even there?"

Little girl, I just can't seem to tell more.
He'll slip your mind, you wait and see.
He had his chance then, but he did not advance then.
Forgotten, way back in history.

He had his chance then, but he did not advance then.
Forgotten, way back in history.

Kind of a paradox that Millard Fillmore is best remembered for not being remembered...as the stereotypical example of an obscure figure in American history. Makes me think of that scene on _The Simpsons_, with the school pageant: " All: We are the mediocre presidents.
You won't find our faces on dollars or on cents!
There's Taylor, there's Tyler,
There's Fillmore and there's Hayes.
There's William Henry Harrison,
Harrison: I died in thirty days!
All: We... are... the...
Adequate, forgettable,
Occasionally regrettable
Caretaker presidents of the U-S-A!

I was wondering if you had caught The Presidents series recently on the History Channel. It was good like this parody.
