The Lyrics

Fun trying to think up a new OS for each "centennial" song, skipping the obvious ("A Hundred Pounds Of Clay", e. g.) and shooting for the less-expected. Like, say, the 100th, the 200th, or the 300th.
(Most links in *this* one are to older songs, in the unlikely event that any newer readers would be interested in what TT was writing three or four years ago.)

TOS was a #3 chart hit, but not widely known these days. Could only find three other parodies of it here, all by Michael Pacholek, two on politics and one on baseball. .... OS video here, but you shouldn't watch it, because there are a couple of shots of a guy grabbing the seat of his girl's jeans.

(Four hundred)
(Four hundred)

Four hundred: Lotta' crap, I shove you
Four hundred: that I post on AIR
And I've been lucky: had no one sue
Except for Micro-soft™, but then, who'd care?

Oh, Tommy Turtle's ... always dreaming stuff, new
Both Shakespeare,   fart: treat equal-ly-y-y
Folks wonder why, now, Chuck let some ... slide by (How?)
Upset him? Appease with poem, TT!

Four hundred: there's no love quite like ewe
And as if ... anyone would ca-a-a-a-are
Don't let him sell you on his IQ
'Cause he can't write with brain that isn't there!

Oh, little girl, his ... most unseemly love: you
He'll make a chart: anato-my-y-y
So don't you try now ... to figure: what, why, how?
What next, him? No one knows what we'll see!

He won't deny, now: batty; shelled, him. Boobs? My! Wow!
But let him ... say, "Thank you all, from me!"

Interested??/ How could you NOT be interested in what comes out of a turtle's shell!! Great job on reaching this milestone, TT!! I know you've given me much more that 400 ideas, laughs, insights, political clarifications, farmland fornications, and, just to sum up... reasons to keep writing!!! Next milestone..555 to coincide with the votes.
Matthias - October 08, 2010 - Report this comment
I'm only about 10 away from hitting this milestone as well. Good job on the last 400 and I'm excited to see what the next 400 have in store for you.

I don't even know how many parodies I've written. I'm 10 away from being at 500 not 400... Oops.
AFW - October 08, 2010 - Report this comment
Congratulations on your 400th, TT..very good..and I see we both used the self-deprecating style, today
SamuraiMaster - October 08, 2010 - Report this comment
400? Wow that makes the fifty I have look considerably small. Keep writing dude!
Old Man Ribber - October 08, 2010 - Report this comment
400 from TT pretty well equals the effort, skill, and accomplishment of 1,000 from anybody else. In musical terms...you are the master of the larger forms. Two interesting observations concerning this one...the unusual brevity and the lack of footnotes! Here's to 400 more! ;D

Phew! I'd have to do another 270 to hit that total. Well done to you. If you'd spent your fooTTnote time doing other parodies, I'd have just read "Eight Hundred (Parodies Posted) :)

400? Words fail me... except for this one------------ Woot! :D

Mark Scotti: *Serious* thanks for such wonderful feedback! ... Probably have to cross 500 to get to 555, but that is *another* good inspiration from you, in addition to inspiring yesterday's post: If/when hit #555, do some kind of play on that! Thanks for waay more than 400 kind words, comments, inspirations, and, I hope, votes! (kidding about multiple votes; serious on the rest. ;)

Matthias: Aw, yer not fooling anybody -- the alleged "mistake" was to work your own (higher) numbers in. ) Kidding... KIDDING! - You've always been quite prolific, and I know where you are on the Author page. ;)
(FWIW, I know that parodies written by a team don't count for either author individually, and rightfully so. But if the Fiddlegirl-TT parodies were added to moi's own, it's 491 -- just ahead of you. :-D )
Thanks for v/c - and I have no clue about the next 400, either. Will just have to see what comes out of the keyboard... :)

AFW: Indeed. When tooting one's own horn, it's best to toot it at oneself, not at the audience. :) Thanks for v/c.

SamuraiMaster: Well, AFW's 1800+ make mine seem small... I intend to keep writing as time and Real World permit, and hope you do, too. Thanks for v/c!

Old Man Ribber: Re: "unusual" ... Had only one thing to say (one point to make), nothing informative, educational, pedantic, didactic, etc... and no far-stretched puns or obscure references. Also, it would be immodest (and sooo out of character for TT!) to do a monster epic when tributing oneself. :-D Thanks for the kind words, votes, and your continuing support.

Andy P: But "Eight Hundred" has nothing in common with TOS title... ;)
FWIW, in the early, noob, "honeymoon" days, spinning out simple 16-liners, TT did the first 100 in less than three months from arrival -- about 64 update days, I think. If kept up at that rate, I'd be at about 1900 right now, behind only the incomparably-prolific John A. Barry and the late Malcom Higgins (R.I.P.)
Two things happened: the Real World repeatedly got in the way, and I wanted harder and harder challenges for myself, writing ever-more complex parodies in the hope that a few readers might find them informative as well as entertaining, or at least, appreciate the complexity. Fortunately, a few have (and some haven't), but I like writing them regardless. Couple more tricks still up my shell, mwahaha! :-D ...       Thanks for v/c.

Fiddlegirl: Words fail you? That's *two* "firsts" today, heh heh! ;) ... Thanks for v/c/w! (woot)

Let's put this in perspective--your 400 equal 1600+ of mine (hypothetically, heh!)--so densely packed with wit, wrydactics, erudition and formidable footnotery, they're a farce to be wrycond with... Congrats on your smilestone in spoofery, sir! Here's to the next megabyte!
Tommy Turtle - October 08, 2010 - Report this comment
TJC: And your comments have more of the same than many parodies! Especial LOL @ "farce to be wrycond with". Thanks!

Congrats on your 4th centennial 400, TT! Keep on writin' on, Turtle! You're well known to pace lyrics very literally as well as witty sense of humor and punmaster as well. Also, dug your informative footnotes as always. Great self trib and 5's!

Congrats on the milestone. I tried to figure out the registration process but running into problems. I am not a computer person. I can perform rote functions for my job and for shopping, parody posting and the like, but I don't adapt well to changes. The biggest problem I have is that on the opening page, the navigation bar, which was formerly horizontal at the top of the page, is now vertical and wiping out the parody author column. To a computer geek, that shouldn't be a hard problem to fix. Used to be a proofreader in the days of punch tape and film, so varying fonts is no problem, and perhaps for some the larger type is easier to read. You are one of the most knowledgeable and respected writers on this site and perhaps Chuck will take your comments more seriously than mine, since you can phrase them in the correct terminology.

Christie Marie M: Thank you! I intend to, time and Real World permitting. :)

Patrick: Chucky specifically replied to me that you don't have to register to post replies to threads. But from what you said, it sounds like you have an older, smaller screen that isn't able to accommodate both the song listings and the navigation bar. Quick, easy way to check (assuming you're using Windows -WHAT VERSION?):

Right-click any empty area of the desktop. Click Properties. That should bring up the Display Properties window. If it doesn't:

Click Start. Point to Settings. then click Control Panel. (it may be different, depending on Windows version and whether you use the new look or Classic look. No worries - will handle that shortly.) In Control Panel, click Display. Again, we want the Display Properties box to appear.

Can't find that? Super-geek shortcut: Click Start. Click Run. Type:

desk.cpl

Then hit Enter. Ta-da!

Okay, we're finally in Display Properties. Click the "Settings" tab - probably the farthest right tab at the top.
In the middle left of the box, look at "Screen Resolution". There should be a slider bar. If it isn't all the way to the right ("More"), move it there. Click OK. Depending on the settings, the screen may go blank for a second, then come back with the higher resolution, or you may have to restart the computer. Whichever. That should improve the situation, unless the resolution was lowered due to another problem.

If the resolution slider is already maxed, note the numbers below it. It will be two numbers followed by the word "pixels". E. g., mine says "1280 x 800 pixels". If yours is something like "600 x 480", at it's highest setting, you have a very old machine. But Chucky needs to know that the display is not satisfactory on older machines, so let him (or me) know what it is. He can adjust some things so that it displays OK on older, smaller, low-res screens.

You can make the font smaller yourself. In Firefox web browser, click View > Text Size (increase or decrease). There are also keyboard shortcuts, Ctrl + or Ctrl - to increase or decrease. I haven't used IE in years, but I'm sure their View menu (at the top bar) has a similar setting. If your eyesight is good that might solve the problem. Or maybe it's already been magnified a long time ago, and just needs to be set back to "normal". Let me know - here is as good a place as any.

Thanks for v/c!

Just seen your Ctrl +/- tip. Didn't know that. Cheers. I was having the same problem of not being able to read the author names. What a simple way to solve it. Mark Scotti commented to me, the last time it happened, that he was also having a problem with it. Can you make sure that he gets to see this.
Tommy Turtle - October 10, 2010 - Report this comment
Andy P: Glad to be of help. I just fired up an old Internet Explorer (v 6) and aside from the View > Text Size at the top bar, there are also keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl-Shift+ and Ctrl-Shift- . In other words, it's like Firefox, but you have to press both Ctrl and Shifr, as well as the + or - to increase or decrease text size.

I left a comment at Mark's last song pointing him here. Will also post at 00s. Thanks for the comment. Cheers.

in IE, it's Ctrl + Shift + > (greater than) to increase, and
Ctrl + Shift + < (less than( to decrease. It's hit or miss whether that works for me, but my IE is old, not updated, and a lot of its useless junk has been deleted. Should be OK for regular users.

Chucky's aware of the issue, and agrees that you're probably running an older, smaller screen. He's on it, and will fix it in the next couple of days.

I look at this stuff on my lunch break at work, so I'm not allowed to tamper with the programming. If Chuck can fix that problem, the rest of the changes to the site are of no particular bother to me. I was used to seeing all four columns at one time, that's what's important to me. The larger type is not a real problem, though my eyesight is adapted to close viewing, with glasses required for driving.
Tommy Turtle - October 11, 2010 - Report this comment
Patrick: "lunch break", eh? That's what they all say... ;)

(The site used to show the *time* that comments were posted, not just the date. That's probably one reason why time was dropped - hard evidence to employers of slacking off on company time. ;) ;) ;)

I''ll forward that to ChuckyG, though again, you're still welcome to post there without registering. But this thread is public to all who DK that inthe00s even exists, so here is OK also.
