The Lyrics

The following describes a episode in online dating that will probably haunt me for years. I get into a three hour conversation with a beautiful lady who seemed like my perfect soul mate. I get the point where I really believed I had found the love of my life, when suddenly, in an instant, she said I wasn't the one for her. At which point, I effed up and sent her several lengthy and angry messages demanding to know why, which caused her to block me ..... At one point, I learned she had lost a daughter and was never able to properly mourn for her because her husband proved himself inadequate to the moment and had collapsed emotionally himself. How sad
'Twas in another lifetime, one of hopes and dreams
When darkness was an unknown, it's shroud as yet unseen
I trekked into the wilderness, was asunder torn
"Done in", I said
Please give me .. shelter from the storm

And if I fail her test again, she can be assured
I'll never cause distress to her, on this I give my word
If it must be unrequited love, its light can keep me warm
"Come in", she said,
Might give you .. shelter from the storm

Not a word had passed between us, no pattern had evolved
Nothing up to that point, had need to be absolved
Try imagining moment when your life could be transformed
"Come in", she said
Might give .. you shelter from the storm

I was burned out from frustration, marriage was a fail
Weakened by my choices, no chances to prevail
All my virtues were reviled, my love repaid with scorn
"Come in", she said
Might give you .. shelter from the storm

And so I clicked her profile, and she was standing there
With love's embrace for her two kids, and wispy reddish hair
She spoke to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns
"Come in," she said
Might give you .. shelter from the storm

Now something's there's between us, the magic has been lost
I took her life for granted, got my signals crossed
Burned my bridge with an anguished rant that made her close the door
"Please go", she said
Can't give you .. shelter from the storm

Well the cruel fates chose a hard road for this mother and a wife
For nothing could be sadder than to lose a daughter's life
And the world it did forsake her, she had no chance to mourn
"Regrets" they said,
We give you .. no shelter from the storm

I shielded my two babies from stresses undreamed of
Now I seem a useless man who's stranded without love
Can you forgive me then my rantings, dear, felt hopeless and forlorn
"God speed" she said,
I hope you .. find shelter from the storm

In a little college campus, I gambled with my life
Cast lots for ambition and bought no end of strife
I faced the world a innocent and got repaid with scorn
"Be gone", they said
We give you .. no shelter from the storm

Well it feels like foreign country, this hometown that was mine
Her story stays inside my heart, I pray that she'll be fine
If we could only turn back the clock to when our tortured paths were formed
"No need", we say
To seek out .. shelter from the storm
I managed to get past the 'block" and reconnect to her, but my actions had made her too wary of my emotional make up. In the end, we parted on friendly terms

Hello, anybody out there? I'm not really a newbie, I'm a regular who used a newbie's name, for reasons even I can't explain. I realize that Amiright tends to ignore newbies but -- 22 views? Keerist! ........ Any Dylan fans out there? I think this is really good -- not exactly funny, but very poignant and a very good take on "Shelter From The Storm." Can I get some feedback? Anybody? ... Buehler? ... Buehler?
