Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

I was runnin round in circles
I was in a state of shock
Someone asked me what the matter was
But I could hardly talk.
First those guys had mugged me
But that was just the start you see
They hacked into the system
and ripped off my ID

Chorus

Oh Mama,
how could they do this to me
I'm stuck here without my mobile*
And no identity

I was down in Tin Pan Alley
Good old Denmark Street
Shoppin for some music
Somethin soulful somethin sweet
When I sensed someone behind me
The hair rose on my neck
And I felt myself go flyin
Wham I hit the deck

chorus

People they tried to tell me
Be careful when you're out
Especially when you go out west
There's lots of thieves about
I didn't pay no attention
I didn't see the need
I thought I was so streetwise
I never paid no heed

Chorus

I did try to fight him
But it was all too late
He got away with everything
I just stood and cursed my fate
It wasn't til so much later
Or that was how it seemed
That it all became a nightmare
A dreadful waking dream

Chorus

I cancelled all my credit cards
That gave me some relief
But that was absolutely no defence against
A full on ID thief
The banks were not suspicious
They were happy to agree
They showered him with credit cards
To fund his spending spree

Chorus

For years and years it haunted me
I really got depressed
He had destroyed my reputation
I was becomin quite obsessed
No-one would give me credit
I was just too big a risk
Theys said look at all those CCJs*
You're there on every list

I struggled to understand it
its so hard to comprehend
What can you do to counteract it ?
Would it ever really end
I worked day and night to clear my name
With my back against the wall
Desperate to reclaim To reclaim my identity
From those thieves who took it all

Through all these trials and tribulations
You what got me through
Was love and friends and music
A bottle of wine or two
We would go downtown to Ronnies
Or some other other jazz café
And just get lost in music
And dance the night away

Chorus

And sometimes I'd go out giggin
Lettin rip with rock and roll
Or jazz or blues or country
R and b and soul
And that's what really matters
When all is said and done
Whatever life decides to throw at you
Get out and have some fun

Oh mama I don't want this to end
That was such a funky drum fill
I wanna play that tune again
* cellphone
*CCJ = county court judgement

Other than the pacing kinda not working for me on the key line, I really liked this. A worthy addition to the growing number of excellent Dylan parodies on the site.

Good song. Reminds me of Existential Blues by...some guy on the Dr. Demento show

I wonder if Dylan owns a cell phone? It's hard to picture. Anyway, good stuff. And Jeff, that was Tom "T-Bone" Stankus (sp?) that did "Existential Blues".
