The Lyrics

Soon we're gonna say good-bye
To the Dubya
Writers, I'm telling you this:
He gave us all those jokes
Ev'ry day they got better
George, we will miss

Yes, it's gonna be a long,
Boring four years
The last eight were comic bliss
Unless Obama bowls,
Or writes Scarlett a letter, [1]
Bush, we will miss

We nailed him in our stand-up
We par-o-died his despair
We punned untiring satire
But gosh dang, he won't be there!

Almost hate to say good-bye
To the Dubya
No more numb nuts to dis
But still, we have an edge:
New meat to dismember:
Joe Biden will be bliss!

[Instrumental, one verse: "Hail To The Chief" plays while Bush walks to the helicopter, waves to no one, pretends not to hear questions from reporters, and pretends not to see President Obama entering the White House, nor to see him renaming it the Black House.]

Yes, it's wondrous to behold
Biden's bummers
His foot fills his mouth's abyss
Just give a little shove
Could it get any better?
Of George, we'll reminisce

We saw him in a fun light
We heard his goofs on the air
In all his splendor, he told you
"Our childrens' behind, we must care!"

I don't wanna say good-bye:
Dumb and Dumber
Bush and his Dick, we pissed
But let us drive a wedge
Into this new member
And peel him like a bris

Blow us a kiss
Yield, not remiss
Bush, we will miss

[1] Reference was to Ms. Johansson, but for those old enough to have read Nathaniel Hawthorne in school, there's a serendipitous pun.

No, I will not miss George Bush, but I did enjoy this parody. 5s.

Good one, Mr. Turtle. I won't miss him either.
MasonR - December 02, 2008 - Report this comment
How true...Obama doesn't give us much comic material, thank goodness!
alvin - December 02, 2008 - Report this comment
funny concept.....yeah, the man was good for laughs but it was pretty scary not to mention embarassing that he was the leader of our country
John Barry - December 02, 2008 - Report this comment
As Letterman said: "We're gonna miss that guy."
2Eagle - December 02, 2008 - Report this comment
Yes, I got the part about the Scarlet Letter. Very funny. However, I like my presidents competent and with a sense of humor - like Bill Clinton.

Until Palin comes back again...
Melanie Lee - December 02, 2008 - Report this comment
Comedians, the ultra-rich, and ultra-rightists will miss the W. The rest of us... And don't think Obama won't be funny. I've heard someone warned him that when he gets to the White House, not to walk across the pool!
Mr. K - December 02, 2008 - Report this comment
Now, I won't miss "Georgie Porgie" either, and Obama might not be too funny, but it's good to have a person of color in the Oval Office for reasons of showing the general public that the Jim Crow laws and lack of civil rights of days gone by were dead wrong and ill-advised, not to mention for showing the world that we Yankees are not the bigoted, filthy-rich whiteys that some people in other countries think we are. Tommy, these 5's are for you!
Phil Alexander - December 02, 2008 - Report this comment
Obama seems to have too much of a self-deprecatory sense of humour to be truly funny, but I reckon there'll be a different sort of laugh along the way. At least, I hope so.
Melanie - that reminded me of the other joke doing the rounds: A secret service agent sees someone climbing over the wall at the White House. He approaches, then says... "Mr President, you can't leave 'til January"

Andria, Rick C, Mason R, avlin, John Barry, 2Eagle (thanks for the catch :), Rocky Mak, Melanie Lee, Mr. K., Phil Alexander, thanks to all for the votes and comments. I think the person who suffers the most from Obama's win is Tina Fey :-)

Sorry to be so late getting back to acknowledge the v/c. Submitted this Mon. night, then Tuesday turned out to be the Day from Hell -- couldn't find a spare moment to get here. Better late than never, I hope, and thanks again to all.
Stan Hall - December 03, 2008 - Report this comment
What Andria said. Anyway, as Rick didn't quite say "We'll always have Pa[l]i[n]." :-)

Very well put

Stan Hall and Andria, thanks.

Oops. my pea-brain got my flippers crossed. Change above to read "Stan Hall and AFW, thanks." (Why isn't there an "edit" option on these comments?)
TJC - December 03, 2008 - Report this comment
Fantastic, funny, perfectly paced, muy melodic and all 'round appealing rendition of a classic. Dumb and ?umber? NO-- with TT, 'tis always Apt and rAptor!
John Jenkins - December 03, 2008 - Report this comment
I might be wrong, but I tend to agree with Joe Lieberman who predicted that Bush's ratings among historians will be greater than his ratings in contemporary polls. Well done, TT. Like everyone else, I hope that President-Elect Obama has a successful 4 (or 8) years, but I look forward to spoofing his administration, particularly the VP, in several parodies.
Jon Stewart - December 03, 2008 - Report this comment
Hey, thanks for the inspiration, Turtle-guy! We got a whole segment of the Dec 3 Daily Show from your 'comedians will miss Bush" concept! Too bad you're not in the writer's union, or we'd have to pay you for stealing -- uh, expanding on your idea!
Bush - The Worst - December 04, 2008 - Report this comment
John - way to go out on a limb there. Dumbaya has about a 5% approval rating now - he could wind up with a 6% or 7% approval rating by historians. The nightmare will be over soon.
Tommy Turtle - December 05, 2008 - Report this comment
TJC: Thanks, but "wrapped her" and "rapture" were the Palinodies. ... oh wait, you said "raptor". lol :) thanks TJ!

Jon Stewart: Does that make me Senior Turtle Correspondent? Happy to be of help...

John Jenkins and Bush - The Worst: Time will tell. Most assessments change over time, and revisionists are still revisiting events of a century or two ago. I disagree intensely with Bush in a number of areas, particularly civil liberties, privacy, and general disregard for the Constitution, but there has been an "argumentum ad hominem" or "scapegoat" effect in which someone who does some number of bad things is then blamed unfairly for *everything* that goes wrong. For example, the housing situation and general economic situation have almost nothing to do with anything Bush did or didn't do -- I could write a book, but the seeds for both were sown in the Clinton administration. (Remember the "dot-com" boom and bust? Since Al Gore "invented" the Internet, does that make the NASDAQ collapse his fault?) And FDR raped the Constitution just as badly, though in different ways, (and the economy, unnecessarily prolonging the Depression until WWII got him and us out of it), yet he seems to be some sort of God-like hero to most people.

John Jenkins: Thanks for the kind words. Of course, I too hope that things go well, but rest assured: There hasn't been a spoof-proof administration since, maybe, George Washington? :-)

Unfortunately, Obama's failings have not been so endearing or funny.
Tommy Turtle - March 15, 2012 - Report this comment
Patrick: Sadly, oh so true. Eloquence and avoidance of Bush's grammatical errors, disconnected phrases, etc. do not constitute an excellent Administration, nor solve any of our problems. Thanks for v/c.
Let's Get Out of Hell - March 15, 2012 - Report this comment
Miss W? You got to be kidding. Would you miss a severe case of salmanella and the Hershey drip? Granted, the economic and moral downslide was already happening before 2000 but those 8 years were horrible. I just want to see the pieces picked up, democracy strengthened up again and the Constitution to be regarded as more than a "G.D. piece of paper" as GW Bush put it.
Tommy Turtle - March 16, 2012 - Report this comment
Let's Get Out of Hell: I disagreed with many of Bush's policies, as I do of Obama's, and wrote several parodies decrying Bush. (Including on my first day here, 1/30/06. You can click the blue "Parody Written by" name at the top and browse through my catalog for other Bush parodies.)
But the point of this parody seems to have been missed: that W's speech disorder and malapropisms were fertile ground for comedians, including parodists.

Thanks for stopping by, and let's all hope that whoever gets elected, in Congress and POTUS, can start turning things around, or we're all pretty much toast. Cheers.
