The Lyrics

Also known as the "Theme Song for Deliverance"
There's banjo notes playing here
Dont know why but they're instilling fear
There's a kid here who's clearly inbred
Makes me think, "There's things we should dread"

I think it's time we stopped, Hey, what's that chord
Paddling into a psycho ward

There's recurve bows being drawn
Homicide wont right this redneck wrong
Poor Bobby groaning his mind
Getting too much tumescence
From behind

I think it's time you stopped, now what did you say
Whaddya mean that I'm gonna pray

What a squeal day in the South
Foul statements made about Ed's mouth
Sighting a bow, now letting it fly
Mostly saying, "Don't prey on my guys."

I think it's time he shot, now, warnt no so sound
Redneck bastard's buried in ground

Sheriff annoyance spikes grief
Our untrue lies aren't believed
From now on, you're sleeping afraid
In your nightmares, a hand comes out of the lake

I think It's time we stopped, Bob, what did we we do
Not really sure if they shot Drew
Stop hey, what's that sound
Hillbilly rapists creepin' round
Stop now, what's that squeal
Everybody watch 'em make Ed kneel
Stop, children what's that note
Everybody run back to the boat

Like may a boomer male growing up in the Seventies, Rob, I was given a crash course in the perils of backwoods hilbilly sodomy upon seeing "Deliverance" .... so yeah, I guess I have some expertise in this area

Wonderfully constructed. The original song is rather ominous in tone. The parody closely matches it. "Sheriff annoyance spikes grief" is follows the original sound pattern, too. Best parody of the day. A movie that can't be forgotten, even if one tries.

I haven't seen "Deliverance" and have no plans to (I don't want to and you can't make me!) but I have heard about it (who hasn't right?) and this parody is pretty good! 5's also if you can believe it I only just very recently came to know that the title of the OS was "For What It's Worth" I never knew what it was actually called until recently go figure huh?

Well, what I, uh, "RE-quire" of you, Jonathan, is that you get your ass over to a video store and rent "Deliverance" so that you can understand all the references I'm making in this parody AND in this here very sentence you're reading. Now, Boy! (lol) ......... But seriously, Jonathan, I wouldn't blame you if you never saw the movie. That hillbilly scene, for its time, was jaw dropping in its intensity and psychological brutality. You wanted Bobby to get his come-uppance for being such an arrogant prick, but Holy S&*t!! .. nobody deserves that!! And it's because of that shock upon first seeing that scene that references to it are guaranteed dark-humor laugh lines for guys my age

Just curious if CML or Jon have seen the old or new versions of "I Spit on Your Grave?" They are far worse than "Deliverance" by a long shot.

I was basically trying to set up an explanation as to why boomer males react to references to "Deliverance" with an almost reflexive laughter, Rob. Certainly the violence depicted in "I Spit On Your Grave" is worse, but it's also occurring in a schlocky, poorly produced film which takes away from the psychological impact. The rape scene in "Deliverance" is a masterpiece of psychological tension -- really well acted and directed. It also happened in a mainstream film that was nominated for "Best Picture." Moreover, there had never been a scene like that in a mainstream film before. And that, I think, is the reason why the "Ned-sploitation" scene is such a wellspring for cheap, dark-humored jokes -- sort of like the one I just made

I haven't seen either version of "I Spit On Your Grave" either but I HAVE had the misfortune of seeing "Dead End" so that counts for something right?

BTW, I have rewatched Deliverance recently, with the goal of acertaining if a backwoodsman shot Drew. My conclusion is no, he didn't. Drew was starting to act as if something was neurologically wrong with him ten minutes before he fell into the river. And at the moment he did, he didn't react as if he had been shot. And then they found no real evidence of a bullet wound; which would be impossible if Drew had been shot by a hunting rifle

I haven't watched this movie in a while, but I remember it being quite creepy. I was surprised to see Burt Reynolds without facial hair when I first saw it, too. TRIVIA: The amount of messed-upedness in this movie cannot compare to a 1975 Italian film called "Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom", an adaptation of a book by the Marquis de Sade.

That was Reynols's look at the start of his career. His first gig was a real POS detective series called "Dan August" where he sported that look. I remember Reynolds going on Carson his first time and completely trashing that show. Didn't endear himself with his producer, but he established his persona as a wisecracker with a real sense of humor.
