Loved the rhyming but there are numerous political parodies that would defecate on this one humour-wise. 5-3-4
My political knowledge is nil, so I can't really understand....pacing was good, I know that much though.
..Jake .. this one was in fact written to ilustrate a chapter from a book(not mine) rather just purely as a humourous item...so fair comment!..
My knowledge of the original is spotty, and I'm unfamiliar with the situation(s) you're describing, so I'm pretty much worthless to you here. So I'll just drop in and say "Hello Martha."
(ABC) I am going to have to pass on this one since I had a terrible time following the pacing. I only knew the Stones version, so I went and got the Chuck Berry lyrics and they were pretty much the same. But no matter how much I tried I could not get:
"monopolistic aspirations – that’s cool"
to fit:
"she's the only one who'd phone me here"
which should be the corresponding line...

many thanks for the comments and for testing the pacing...The pacing thing is funny .. everything I write is primariy written for performance purposes and driven by an agenda beyond wordplay for its own sake .. ie to illustrate a chapter in a book ...as in this case . But I always try them out myself before reaching a final draft and I can always sing them... somehow .. it may take a bit of coming in before the beat occasionally and singing a bit fast sometimes or eliding the odd word or two .....but I may sacrifice precise pacing(I am not even quite sure how that is defined) to making a paricular point / joke or because I like a particular rhyme . but hey its all just for fun!
Decent, but tough for me to judge personally not knowing British politics.
