The Lyrics

We wasted billions on a winless war, thanks to George Bush & Dick Cheney. Let's get out of there before the country goes bankrupt.
Well, come on all of you, big young men,
Republicans need your help again.
Got themselves in a terrible jam
Way over yonder in Afghanistan
Put down your books and pick up a gun,
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun.

And it's one, two, three,
Who are we fighting for?
Don't ask em, they don't give a damn,
Next stop? Afghanistan!
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Bush ain't doin' time...I wonder why,
Whoopee! they're all gonna lie.

Hey Haliburton, don't be slow,
Why man, this is war to-go-go
There's plenty more money to be made
Supplying the Army with the tools of the trade,
Just hope and pray they don't drop the bomb,
Drop it on the Talibahn.

And it's one, two, three,
Who are we fighting for?
Don't ask em, they don't give a damn,
Next stop? Afghanistan.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Bush ain't doin' time, I wonder why
Whoopee! they're all gonna lie.

Hey, General Petraeus, let's move fast;
Your best chance has come and past.
You never did get those towel-heads
and the only good Muslim is the one that's dead
And you know this war can never be won
So you might as well turn & run.

And it's one, two, three,
Who are we fighting for ?
Don't ask em, they don't give a damn,
Next stop....Afghanistan.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Bush ain't doin' time, I wonder why
Whoopee! they're all gonna lie.

Come on mothers throughout the land,
Pack your kids off to Afghanistan.
Come on fathers, don't hesitate
Send your sons off before it's too late.
Be the first ones on your block
To have your child come home in a box.

One, two, three
Who are we fighting for?
Don't ask us, we don't give a damn,
Next stop...Afghanistan
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Bush ain't doin' time, I wonder why,
Whoopee! they're all gonna lie.

I am old enough to barely remember the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. That following summer the AM radio in my mom's kitchen played "Jive Talking" by the Bee Gees A LOT (coincidence?). I joined the service in the 80s (Cold War era) and I had thought that we had learned something or 2. After Ronnie + Gorby fostered glasnost and the eagle and the bear buried the hatchet the future looked great - we (humanity) didn't have to commit nuclear suicide. Then we had a Nintendo war against some tinhorn big bad "worse-than-Hitler" desert dirtbag. And now look. I don't like Saddam Hussein but getting rid of him didn't make things better for anyone, did it? Just ask an Iraqi. Will we learn this time around? The people profitting from this game of death are the real war criminals and just as Prez. Obama awarded a Medal of Honor to a living Marine recently I reward you with a sack of 5s. You're rocking and I salute you!

I remember this song from the first time around. Amazing how little had to be changed to bring it up to date. The only thing we seem to learn from history is that we don't learn from history.
Jhon Stuart Mill - November 26, 2010 - Report this comment
“But war, in a good cause, is not the greatest evil which a nation can suffer. War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is much worse. When a people are used as mere human instruments for firing cannon or thrusting bayonets, in the service and for the selfish purposes of a master, such war degrades a people. A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice – a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their free choice – is often the means of their regeneration. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight , nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other.”
