The Lyrics

There was a guy who lived across the street where I grew up who most of the
neighborhood decided was a hermit. Put a toe on his grass, and he'd be out there
yelling at you to get the hell away. Every neighborhood should have a guy like that.
You've stepped on my flowers (stepped on my flowers)
With your big shoes (your big shoes)
You've crushed my peat moss (crushed my peat moss)
Hey man, what's wrong with you (what's wrong with you)

Now get off of my gladiolas
Off of my gladiolas
Yeah get off of my gladiolas
This garden's mine

I'm not too happy (not too happy)
I'm a crusty old guy (crusty old guy)
I just have this garden (just have this garden)
Step on it, you die (you will die)

So get off of my gladiolas
Off of my gladiolas
Yeah get off of my gladiolas
This garden's mine

Oh, the neighbors wish that I'd just go away (just go away)
But you know, my hoe and I, we will stay
We will stay

I just sewed some new seeds (sewed some new seeds)
To patch up my grass (patch up my grass)
Keep you feet off it (keep your feet off)
Or I'll bust your ass (I'll bust your ass)

So get off of my gladiolas
Off of my gladiolas
Yeah get off of my gladiolas
This garden's mine

Oh, the neighbors wish that I'd just go away (just go away)
But you know, my hoe and I, we will stay
We will stay

I've planted herbs now (planted herbs)
Parsley, sage and thyme (Parsley, sage and thyme)
And I will not share 'em (will not share 'em)
It's not you'rs, it's mine (you'rs, it's mine)

So get off of my gladiolas
Off of my gladiolas
Yeah get off of my gladiolas
This garden's mine

(fade away)
This garden's mine now
Get off of my property
I'm warning, get off now
Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa

It's interesting--some of the lines people point out are their favorites were actually lines that I added at the last minute, kind of as an afterthought! The "my hoe" line was one of them. Thanks for the feedback; I'm learning a lot!

Would I be the only pedant in town to point out that the plural is "Gladioli"? ;-) If this is a first parody, it's an excellent one - lots of fun and as close to the original tune as I can remember (don't know it that well, though)
