The Lyrics

I'm a Donovan fan who never understood the reason for the pronunciation of some of his lyrics, stressing the wrong syllables at times. He does it a lot in the original "Epistle" especially. He also holds certain syllables in the middle of words for a long time. If you haven't heard the original, I'd recommend it, just to hear him sing "Looking through cry-STAL spec-TA-cles..."
Hear the singer with his GUI-tar
Notice how his song----writ-ING style has the weirdest accents
On syl-LA-bles not lo-GI-cal
Off the beat quite frequently

Many levels in his lyrics
Serious thoughts and much profundity
Inflection makes no sense to me
Checking the dic-TION-ary now
I can see he's not right on

When I hear Do-NO-van's tunes I
Wonder if in re------a-LI-ty his first tongue is English
But I like them anyway

Many levels in his lyrics
Serious thoughts and much profundity
It doesn't make much sense to me
Checking out the language volumes
I can see he's not right on
Checking out the language volumes
I can see he's not right on
Checking the dic-TION-ary now
I can see he's not right on
Checking the dic-TION-ary now
I can see he's not right on

How' bout "E-pis-TLE to Dippy"?
Such a perfect ex------am-PLE of this phenomenon and
Perfect for a parody!

Many levels in his lyrics
But there are beats where there once were none
What if he does it for fun? - ahhh...
Checking the dic-TION-ary now
I can see he's not right on

Doh doh doh, doh doh doh doh doh
Doh doh doh, doh doh doh doh doh
Doh doh doh, doh doh doh doh doh
Doh doh doh, doh doh doh doh doh
Doh doh doh, doh doh doh doh doh

Oooo, looks good, but DKTOS but I think I knew it at one time...if I can hear it again...

Johnny, if you check out the original lyrics you'll get some idea, especially if you haven't heard it before. It's hard to get the wrongly-accented syllables out of one's head. Maybe if you had the right 'shrooms...
