The Lyrics
Freshman year at Vanderbilt in 1964 it was History 101 with head lecturer Dr. Marchand, a brilliant man who suffered from a disease that misshaped his bones, similar to the diseased possessed by The Elephant Man. If a student was given any A or F by his individual instructor, the test or paper went to Dr. Marchand for review. He could, if he chose, change the grade to whatever he decided; for example, if he detected some plagiarism. History was in no way my best subject, by the way!
Thursday mornin' at nine o'clock, I know where I'm gonna be;
I'm gonna take a seat in the Auditorium Neely.
And all my friends will be there, too, and Marchand's lecture they will
hear,
Unless one happens to be a fortunate engineer.

The tests they give they say are made to help you learn to think,
