Parody Song Title:

"If Eric Burden Sang Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Getting desperate for material.
There was a ship in Wisconsin
They called the Edmund Fitz
It came to ruin one November night
The hull performed the splits

McSorely was the captain
He sailed the Fitz with skill
The cargo hold was filled with ore
Bound for a Detroit mill

Half the crew were at their posts
And half were in their bunks
When a sudden wave engulfed them all
The Fitz was quickly sunk

The bow is resting upright
The stern is upside down
Men, twenty-nine, thought all was fine
But 'twas their fate to drown

So mothers bring their children
To the musty Sailor's Hall
And one more time, they will ring the chime
For all those sailors lost that fall

OS: rising; parody: sinking. How long can it go on?

This may be my last for a while. I'd like to prove that I can write on a different subject. My schedule is looking busy for the next month, but that's subject to change. It's fun to see how many other writers got in on the story or trend or fad, or whatever it was.

LOL @ splits line. If you like a bit of country, how about "If The Shoe Fits" by Hank Williams III or "Everything but quits" by Lee Ann Womack.

Do you suppose the EF is deteriorating into new petroleum reserves? Or at least, leaking some?

Not really fond of this genre -- it's way easier than smooshing, which is apparently above the heads of many writers here today - but what Andy said about splits. 555.

@ John A. Barry: Oh, I dunno, maybe as long as "I Put A Spell..." goes on? .., and hey, thanks for starting that trend, which seems to have given the site its (almost) sole raison d'ĂȘtre these days.

I don't know how I missed this one the first time around, but Alan Price's organ is a good fit for the Fitzgerald story, so the parody works very well.
