The Lyrics

After the four ballot initiatives endorsed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger lost in California's special November (2005) elections, he has moved to the left by appointing more liberals to key positions and by recommending massive deficit spending and raising the minimum wage.
The buck stops somewhere, doesn't it?
My state needs care, doesn't it?
But all four of my propositions lost last November,
And now meaningful values seem so hard to remember

I'm reviewing the situation.
Can I remain conservative all my life?
These electoral tribulations
Might cause me to join the party of my wife.
'Cause the world still loves the pedigree
That gets linked to her family.
If liberal philosophies
Would help my state's economy,
I'd sacrifice my dignity
By acting like Ted Kennedy
I think I'd better think it out again.

My wife votes for me, so she says,
But when I'm wrong, "No" she says.
So when I endorsed W, I was cut off for two weeks,
And in politics, not getting screwed is really unique.

I'm reviewing the situation.
My poll ratings are a disappointing fact.
I would act with great indignation,
But voters already know that I can't act.
So now, like those films in which I starred,
I'll mobilize the National Guard,
And terminate our biggest threat:
That's Cal-ee-for-nya's rising debt.
For those that we own money to
It's "Hasta la vista to you!"
I think I'd better think it out again.

Are there other laws to be passed?
Do they have flaws? Will they last?
All of my best ideas have already been rejected,
So what can I do if I want to get re-elected?

I'm reviewing the situation.
Being governor is not a piece of cake.
I am taking no compensation,
And, I tell you, I'm worth ev'ry cent I make!
I'll make "I'll be bahk!" the state motto,
Fund orgies with the state lotto,
Make fondling the new state sport,
Put Warren Beatty on the court,
Then Cindy Sheehan will resort
To be my permanent escort
I think I'd better think it out again.

I no longer love politics,
I've grown tired of politics
'Cause I don't like the way I get treated on the evening news
When the right and the left both give me fault-finding reviews.

I'm reviewing the situation.
I'm an actor and an actor I shall stay,
But you will see a transformation
'Cause some different roles are what I want to play.
Now that I am skilled at role flip-flops,
I'm done with playing tough guy cops.
I need more role complexity
Perhaps a Shakespeare tragedy?
Yes, Hamlet is the part for me,
It will be a new start for me.
Nuanced is what I've got to be
Give me "To be or not to be,"
Then I can think, think, think it out again.

Brilliant, JJ. Simply brilliant... hard to find a favourite line, but: this quartet made me grin:
I'm reviewing the situation.
My poll ratings are a disappointing fact.
I would act with great indignation,
But voters already know that I can't act

Neato, with a highly underrated Broadway tune. You can find a MIDI of the tune here (vocals start approx. after 18 seconds) : www.geocities.com/RainForest/7565/midi_oliver.html

As Philbo said, brilliant! I'm not sure old Arnie is gonna "stick around" for very long. 555

Thank you Phil, Agrimorfee, and Rick. And Agrimorfee, I definitely appreciate your contributing the MIDI and agree that TOS should probably be better known and parodied more than it is.

Thank you, Larry and Paul. Again, I encourage those who DKTOS to check out the musical - several well written songs with good parody potential. And, Paul, thanks for noticing.
