The Lyrics

Have been so deeply buried in the "My Fair Lady" parody for the past month that much of the Real World has been missed (not badly, though). You know things are bad when AmIRight is your chief source of news. :)

So, thanks to Philip Alexander, O.B.E. (Odd, But Excellent), for bringing this story to this author's attention in his parody of it last Thursday, and also for the link to the newspaper article. Sir Phil, this song's for you. (But didja catch TT's last comment?) ... Original version on YouTube.
Strange words come to light
At passport, glances [1]
"Circumscribed" folks' plight
They brissed their shwantzes
Man full of Shi'ite [2]
Turns out to be a Jew

Something in his lies
Was oh, so spiting
Holocaust, denies
Barack, inviting: [3]
Buchenwald -- surprise!
Tells me it must be true!

Strange, he casts a blight
On his own people
Last name, changes out of fright
He fears the torment
When they said the worst: "Hell, go"
"Yids'll end below
"Gov? Adjust your stance our way
"Reform; embrace: enhance your sway"

And...
Ever since that day:
To Islam, tether
Israel, drive away
Hell-bent for leather [4]
Roots of faith, betray
When ID on display!

[instrumental, as the former Jew rants against the Jews]

Loves: unjustly prance and say --
-- Ideas disgracing; rants dismay

Ever since that day
It's been amusing
"Schick": six million, slay? [5]
Believe? Refusing
News is sheer delight
Ironic write, invite!

"Oy-vay, oy-vay, mir
"In gants, meshuge [6]
"Next, they'll find I'm queer [7]
"In closet, buggeh..."
[fade? The issue won't, but it would be nice if MA would, eh?]

[1] As this song was inspired by Sir Alexander of the UK, we'll use the en-BR pronunciation of "glances", as it rhymes better with its Yiddish subsequent rhyme-word. Sounds close to the "o" in "on", "fond", "pond". ... naah, the pronunciation guide isn't necessary. Surely *everyone* watched the movie, "My Fair Lady", either before, during, or after FG-TT's parody of it all over the past two weeks, right?

[2] Presently identifies as following the Shi'a branch of Islam. (sorry for the s**tty pun.)

[3] In June 2009, President Obama visited the Buchenwald concentration camp and challenged Ahmadinejad to visit it himself as evidence of the Holocaust.

[4] Line from OS "Rawhide!"

[5] Hitler, an illegitimate child, used his mother's name, Schicklgruber, until he was 39. However, contrary to popular legend, he was *not* Jewish, nor of Jewish ancestry. Claims that his father had been the son of a Jewish family for whom his mother worked as a servant were believed by historians in the mid-1900s, but generally dismissed by the 1990s, and there seems to be some chromosomal evidence, though not definitive, confirming the falsehood of the claim.

[6] "Woe, woe is me!
"Totally crazy!" (the situation, and he himself)

[7] No homophobia intended, nor felt, by this writer, but as homosexuality is a capital offense in some Islamic countries, that *would* be an even more ironic revelation if true, wouldn't it?

Thanks to Yiddish Dictionary Online for a little help for this non-native, almost non-speaker. (No offense, but turtles can't be Jewish. They can't be brissed, because their shells get in the way. In fact, that's precisely *why* they have shells, lol :-)

Amiright is becoming my source for news, especially this story. Wonderfully written with nice inverted phrasing. Did you mean "circumcised"? Muslims as well as Jews are ritually circumcised, though Muslims may delay the procedure until the boy is old enough to be aware of what is happening. No wonder some of them are so angry. Have you ever noticed that most Holocaust deniers would like to perpetrate a holocaust if that had the opportunity? I'll have to watch My Fair Lady again some day then go back and review your opus. I've done four or five songs from Les Misérables, but there is no connecting theme. The Big Seven are mostly beyond my grasp. I don't know some of the songs and don't like a couple of them. Is anyone up to the ultimate challenge: Bob Dylan's "Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts"? Pace that one some time.

Topical Intell-reality-check-ual parodyin' at it's finest!

He should lose all his teeth but one-- and that one should ache! ;)

Brilliant job, as usual, bringing down the mighty and finding humor in the humorless.

Loved it, mensch, especially "full of Shi'ite."

Patrick: "Have you ever noticed that most Holocaust deniers would like to perpetrate a holocaust if that had the opportunity?"

What an insightful (and ironic) observation! ... No, I meant "circumscribed", i. e., His parents' and his plight, as Jews with a name officially reserved for Jews in a country that is not exactly known for its tolerance of same, severely limited their options. However, there was a word-play intended on "circumcise", which is why "Circumscribed" was in quotes, as a "nudge-wink" to the reader.

Like all satires, MFL will be *so* much better if you do watch the original, so you'll understand the references, see the matching, etc.. Plus, it's a great move. Thanks for v/c!

The Man In The Boat: Thanks -- I'll bet you're cracking up yer shipmates with yer neologicistical quippery! Hope yer trip gives you Titanic amounts of pleasure! .... uh, wait, maybe should search for better adjective ..... thanks for V @ Sea!

FiddleYenta:

Is this the little girl I parried?
Fiddling: watch violin's word-play
I still remember how we'd smolder
Pen, kid, play!

Much thanks for commment from this cutey
On Mahmoud, watch her throw a pall
Would that his tooth decay would --
-- Lose ... them ... all!

Pun flies, pun, get....

May the lice of a thousand camel crotches forever infest his underarms. Thanks for v/c, and L'chaim!

John Barry: Imam-pressed by your comment! Maybe Sunni-'ll be removed from power? ... glad you liked one of the author's faves. Thanks, Bubbelah.

Overdue to comment on this. Great as always, TT! I myself had been exposed by the Jewish during my school years. LOL on turtles that can't be Jewish or brissed because their shells get in the way. Well, a Mazel Tov and L'chaim to you! 555. BTW, my cousin married a Vietnamese adopted in a Jewish family. I loved the glass breaking and when they got carried on top from their chairs dancing.

Christie Marie M: Thanks for all comments! ... Your cousin married a character out of a Doonesbury© comic strip -- are you old enough to remember that strip? She was just what you said -- Vietnamese adopted into Jewish -- and made fun of people who stereotype either. Mazel Tov to you, too!

:-) Many thanks for that kind introduction, too. OBE, indeed (I always took that as standing for "Other Buggers' Efforts"). It would perfect the irony, if it turned out that Ahmadinejad was, er, in the closet.

Phil, so glad you could make it for your trib and for your Knighthood, Grandly Crossing many MPs with your stinging barbs!! Isn't irony delicious?

Having just gone through the original "My Fair Lady" several times straight through, and each of the songs -- uh, "lots" of times, I'd take OBE as "'ow Bloomin' 'ellish!" - at least, in Artford, Ereford, and Ampshire. Sorry you haven't been able to make it to that production -- we'd hoped that OPlay having been written by a UK-er, and being set in London, the UK-Commonwealth audience might especially enjoy, but that hasn't happened. We're sorry not to have reached that audience. Thanks for v/c.

Pun flies, pun, get
Pun wise, no sweat
Swiftly grinding gears
Al-iens beam overnight to dream bow'rs
Possibly feeding lines for days

Pun spies, pun sets,
Sunrise, Tom gets
Nifty new ideas
One teasin' following another
Maiden with happiness gives cheers

"Give me a 'T'... Give me an 'O'..."
(ponders whether that should be rephrased.... ... ... ... naaaah!) ;)

""Give me a 'T'... Give me an 'O'..."
(ponders whether that should be rephrased.... ... ... ... naaaah!) ;)"

Why would one rephrase such a cogent truth, so wittily expressed? Astute, appropriate, apropos aphorism. ;)

So, now you're turning parody comments into spinoff parodies? Where on earth did you learn something like that? (scratches head, difficult with flipper)

Have we enough to post it as a complete parody now? DRTOS that well (remember); will have to check it. Nicely done, E-wise-a! (no, not Elmer Fudd talking there, silly.)

They would lose something in translation, but it is unfortunate that this parody and Phil's parody on the same subject cannot be performed in Farsi and released in Iran. Oh well. Good stuff, TT.
Tommy Turtle - October 20, 2009 - Report this comment
John Jenkins: Aside from 555-ing Phil's song in Farsi, "Mahmoud Ahmadinejad" (TT, naturally) left a comment in Farsi here:
http://www.amiright.com/parody/misc/gilbertsullivan91.shtml.

So, yes, it could probably be translated, but agree it would lose something in the process, and the chances of it being played in Iran are about as good as the chances of Iran electing a Jew for President. .... oh, wait, they *did*.... Thanks for v/c, John.
