Song Parodies -> "Strange Folks: AmIRight"

Original Song Title:

"Strangers In The Night"

Original Performer:

Frank Sinatra

Parody Song Title:

"Strange Folks: AmIRight"

Parody Written by:

Tommy Turtle

The Lyrics

Strange folks, AmIRight
The muck they make up
Stay up half the night
And when they wake up
Try again to write
Something that's fresh and new

Something in their heads
Sure seems so screwed up
Maybe missed their meds
Post such etude up
P---ing off the Feds
By bashing W...

Strange folks, AmIRight,
Creative people
They are strange folks, AmIRight
Burning those neurons
On such useless, tepid tripe
Ventilating gripe
Searching for hilarity
Plus penetrating parody and....

While the world's in want
Of real solutions
Futile flames they flaunt
As contributions
Genius gone to blight
Strange folks at AmIRight

(instrumental)

It's unlawful, waste IQ
But I have awful taste, like you; if...

One could harness our
Brilliance and toil,
To propel a car,
We'd need no oil
And con-quer space flight
Brains spent on AmIRight!

Dub - a - dub - a - yoo
Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb

Dub - a - dub - a - yoo
Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb...

Thanks to all of those utterly wasted, brilliant minds here, but especially to Airfarcewon's "We Right the Songs", for providing material for what the author would refer to as "research", but Phil Alexander would call "plagiarism". I promise to go back to original ideas tomorrow. © 2006 Tommy Turtle.

Please let me explain
And I'm not wrong, uh
If you use your brain
It just gets stronger
I used mine again
To write this verse to you

Therefore what we write
Our little ditties
Here at amiright
The upshot, it is
We become *more* bright
(that's unlike W)

Parodies we write, keep neurons firing
Our brain cells they excite: no, not expiring
Whether they be good or shite
Heavy tunes or light
Ain't it kind of fun though, our
Augmenting our brainpower...

...hold on a sec, that's nearly complete ;-)

That ain't workin'
That's the way you do it

You slay the lyrics heard on M.T.V.

That ain't workin'
That's the way you do it
Funny retouching in a parody

We gotta grinstall AmiRight stuffin'
Bustin' wits on, our pa-ro-day-yay-yays
We gotta prove we, see which are greater! We gotta prove we honor C. G. !

Phil, tryin' to upstage The Turtle, huh? Hope you post the finshed version (you can refer back to this one Cough! Cough!); it's starting out as good as have come to expect from ya... Johnny D, DKTOS you're working; help out an old fogey and explain?.... alvin, a brief look at your page and I'm sure I'm gonna be a fan of yours also; Allan Sherman was an early role model for me as well; I know Bellflower, and nice pun, and I Fived you on "Trollin". (So many good parodies, so little time!!).... JD again, same as to Alvin, Fived you on COBOL... SW engineer, huh? My "Newcomputer etc." must have shown what a dummy (l)user I am.... You and I share an opinion different from that of 2nz and Agrimorfee on keeping a bit of the OS; I'm with you, but Ag dinged me for that on "I Feel Sh--ty". Adagio, looked at your page and picked "Did You Ever Say..." as I love the OS, and parody did not disappoint, Fived.... (a little ditty there should you care to look)... John B., thank you, really going to be tough to explore your work with 1100+, but will try, Fived "Ski School"... AFW, "You're (not) my soul, but my song's inspiration" surprisingly often in the eleven days I've been here, (loonies in the same asylum, I guess), and you're a Righteous Brother as well... Ravyn Rant, thanks, but see next paragraph...

Thanks everyone -- you've convinced me that this is not valueless, so I'm abandoning my lifetime project of supplying the World's energy needs from three acorns in order to concentrate on writing parodies full time. Thanks!

Good parody, and I also gotta agree with Phil, Adagio, Johnny, and Alvin.
Phil Alexander - February 09, 2006 - Report this comment
I wasn't aiming to upstage: merely to answer... I often find comments coming out in the right rhythm. Don't often post them, but since you ask... I guess I can complete the above in time for today's update :-)
PS JD's lyrics are to Money For Nothing by Dire Straits

Larry, PMS, thanks.... Michael, you too have succeded in confusing this pea-brain, which is not difficult.
Phil, we knew that, do it too, it's a huge compliment, saw your spinoff and it is an honor :)

An interesting take. What interests me is where would an amphibian obtain acorns from? If you say an Oak, I will be most upset! They don't exactly lie on the beach do they? And can they be stored underwater? Wouldn't they float? How do you keep them under? Some slightly esoteric questions for you there Turtle-burger!
Tommy Turtle - August 12, 2012 - Report this comment
Peregrin: You do know what "amphibian" means, don't you? ;) ;) ;)   IDK about your beaches, but some oaks grow very near mine, though perhaps not quite so tall and magnificent as areas with less salt in the AIR. Thanks for the read.
Meriadoc - August 12, 2012 - Report this comment
Aren't you glad you don't HAVE to return to the water to breed...? Incidentally, I saw quite a number of your (non-amphibious) kin in the canal today.
TT - August 12, 2012 - Report this comment
Meriadoc: One hates to nit-pick any gracious reader, but did you mean "return to the land to breed", as green sea turtles and most other sea turtles do? Clearly, your proofreader is falling down on the job again! ;-D
Ahhh, I get it. You don't believe TT's species-orientation, and were doing the old switcheroo: As an alleged human (many would dispute you there, *trust me* ;), it's good that I don't HAVE to return to the water to "breed". OTOH, doing it in a boat, night or day (it's that rocking ;), or even in shallow water within sight of a very crowded beach on a weekend -- as Freud always said, "Oh, to be Jung again!" ;-D

Not sure which kin you saw, but I've hiked in a park known for a good population of turtles in the (fresh-water) creek, and they do occasionally sit on small islands in the creek, or come up to the shore. There are wooden overlooks for the hikers, and often, we've seen several come up very close. Do you K the breed of these non-amphibs?

@ Peregrin: To answer another question, coral reefs are reef -- I mean, rife -- with nooks and crannies, which are fave spots for lobsters, eels, etc. to hide and live in a bit of peace. It would be quite possible to keep acorns in such nooks, though they may indeed float to the ceiling of it.

Amphibian? Also ambidextrous:

No, I was referring to Pip's gaff in calling you an amphibian, which do have to breed in the water... :)
Turtally Slips Off The Chart - August 13, 2012 - Report this comment
Meriadoc: Sharp catch in (poor!) Pip confusing "amphibious" (adj.) with "amphibian" (n., taxonomy), although to come to his defense, one dictionary did allow "amphibian" as an alternative, secondary word for "amphibious". Please don't go too hard on the poor fellow -- unless, of course, he lik-- n/m, that's a trivial note from years ago. ;)
Peregrin - August 13, 2012 - Report this comment
Well, I *thought* I knew what it meant. Help! I'm being picked on by Yanks, left and right! And despite how everyone else here may interpret that comment, it was not political! ;)
Tommy Turtle - August 13, 2012 - Report this comment
Peregrin: As noted recently, IDK Merry was a native Yank until our very recent convos. LOL @ L/R -- wouldn't have even thought of it that way had you not said it.

I've only a mild guess @ Merry's orientation (poitical! ;) , but as said, TT is Libertarian, and finds both wings distasteful (and breasts and thighs tasteful -- uh-oh, starting to head down the Chik-Filly-Lay path .... ;)
Peregrin - August 14, 2012 - Report this comment
Yes, she's one of you, but not one of them!
Tommy Turtle - August 14, 2012 - Report this comment
Peregrin: One of us -- Yank, but not one of them -- Libertarian? (Pronoun objects of prepositions a bit unclear, keeping in mind that a turtle is an amphibious [cough cough cough] reptile with a brain approximately the size of a pea.)

If had to guess, would place M as what in US would be "moderately liberal", but not hard Left. But then, I'm probably 180% and 100 degrees off .... (ponders last phrase -- something seems, ah, n/m, it's good.)
Peregrin - August 15, 2012 - Report this comment
No, you were way off, it was nothing to do with politics. It was such a lame joke, it is not worth my trying to explain (because it's not really that funny). You will need to trust me on that one!
Tommy Turtle @ Peregrin - August 15, 2012 - Report this comment
Not one of the "Chik-Fil-A" pro- or con- crowd? I knew I shouldn't have mentioned that. The intent was to take the play on "both wings distasteful; breasts and thighs tasteful" and into s*x in general (I'm in favor of it), with "Chi(c)k -- "Filly" (female young horse) "Lay" being a (lousy, in hindsight -- no pun intended by "hindsight" ;) "topical" ewe-phemism for said genre, i. e. "I'm headed down too lascivious a path there."

So it's my bad. Feel free to explain, or not, your joke or Merry's politics, as ewe sea fit!
Peregrin - August 15, 2012 - Report this comment
Cannot explain my joke, as it didn't really qualify as one (in hindsight). As for Merry's politics, she may have to explain that one to you herself. Far it be it for me to say!
Tommy Turtle - August 15, 2012 - Report this comment
Fair enough (on all counts). Don't you wish we all could see the hindsight before making the decision? ;)
