The Lyrics

The so-called Health Care Reform bill contains all sorts of hidden landmines, some of which are starting to poke their detonators out of the ground. These include a massive new paperwork requirement on most business transactions that will strangle whatever is left of the economy next year. Now there is a report that Congress wants to give President Obama the "legal" (as if that mattered to him) authority to shut down the internet. There could only be one real purpose for that. Enjoy this site while you still can.
The bill was enacted in summary form
The devilish details lie deep
When IRS agents like locusts swarm
Our country is hard to keep

The Branch Davidians, do you you recall
The lesson intended to learn?
That those who love freedom must be appalled
Our families and homes could burn

The babe is aborted at public expense
The Alien lives here for free
While foreigners scramble to jump the fence
They're pulling the plug on me

Obama, Obama has shown us the signs
A dictator waiting to be
Our health care supplanted by jails and fines
He's pulling the plug on me

Obama, Obama an order he'll sign
The Internet no longer free
If he should object to this song of mine
Then he'll pull the plug, then he'll pull the plug
Then he'll pull the plug on me

I think I abstained the first time, because I wasn't comfortable with some of the message, but the bit about giving the POTUS the Orwellian power to shut down the net should have overridden that. Never thought it would go totally v/c-less, though.

Sometimes I do get comments even a year later. Rare, though. The original writers wanted to create a chilling scene of impending doom as the waiters in the cafe started singing in praise of Hitler. As it turned out, a number of neo-nazi groups adopted the song as their own. Some punk bands and skinheads have recorded it. But Anita Bryant? I played her rendition once at a record collector club meeting and was told that was the worst record I had ever brought. And considering my reputation, that was some record! I wonder if her managers even knew what the song was about. Glad you caught up with it. I was certain Michael would have said something. I did get some feedback on "Die Fahne Hoch".
