The Lyrics

April 15, 1989, a terrible day. If you don't know, please click on the link, and then read the song below. I've used Liverpool native Gerry as the performer because his version is the one connected with the club. http://www.anfieldroad.com/dont-buy-the-sun/
When you walk through the store
where newspapers sold
you'll see Echo, and Mail, and The Times.
At the end of the stack
there's a tarnished pile
filled with lies and with scorn and with slimes.

Walk on
past the stack.
Walk on
through the store
with your purchase made and done.
Walk on
walk on
with pride
in your heart
that you'll never buy The Sun.
You'll never buy The Sun.

Walk on
walk on
with pride
in your heart
that you'll never buy The Sun.
You'll never buy The Sun.
I'm not a Liverpool fan, but it's long since time the survivors received "Justice for the 96."

There wasn't actually a "link" to click, so I copied/pasted the address in the browser. If you need any help in making your links work, let me know -- it's pretty easy. Anyway, from the story you cited:
"They were burning copies of it."
I seem to remember some guy in Germany doing that, and everyone thought he was some kind of evil dude. Maybe it depends on which side of the Channel you're on. Anyway, what Jwwe said.

From several different OS sources, OS line and parody:

And don't be afraid of the dark
you'll see Echo, and Mail, and The Times

Any way you count it, that's one syllable over. Will give the benefit of the doubt, given the author's frame of mind, that he's singing the OS as "A-and don't..." - putting two syllables in OS "And". Otherwise, easy fix:

you'll see Echo, Mail, and The Times

As mentioned, benefit of the doubt on this, so 5-1-3 for the salute to book-burning.

Look, I know this wasn't supposed to be funny, but by supporting The Sun you're basically saying they were right when they printed "THE TRUTH," one of the biggest lies in the history of newspapers. This isn't about censorship, this is about libel. The only punishment they've ever gotten for it is the loss of nearly all their sales in Merseyside, which hasn't stopped them at all. But I guess anything that doesn't fit your precious myth of a "liberal media" -- anywhere in the world -- is okay, no matter who gets hurt in the process. Typical right-wing thought: "I don't care who gets hurt, I want what I want."
Tommy Turtle - April 17, 2009 - Report this comment
Michael, I assume you're responding to Jwwe. I'm not "right-wing". I've been a registered LIbertarian since I was old enough to vote, and a philosophical libertarian since I was old enough to think.

I was going to ask about the libel issue anyway. I'm not nearly the expert in British constitutional (monarchal), criminal, and civil law that I am on US law, but I assume they have laws against libel just as we do, esp. since our common law, and much of our statutory law, was inherited from England. So if no one sued, it doesn't support the premise of the parody. If they sued *and lost*, then that completely undercuts the premise of the parody. A successful libel suit would put it on firmer ground, but I still can't condone book-burning -- or newspaper, record-album (Calling Tipper Gore! Calling Tipper Gore!), CD, DVD, or any other kind of "burning". Two wrongs don't make a right. The courts were the redress for any alleged grievances.

None of this means that I "support" Hearst-style "yellow journalism", papparanazis, etc. But I don't hold myself up as God and say that everything not to my liking should be banned (else you'd be gone a long time ago - kidding!!! You know I respect you, or I wouldn't spend this much time replying. What am I, Linda Terhume (or chopped liver)?

"I may not agree with what The Sun or Michael Pacholek says, but I will defend to the death his right to say it". -- Voltaire, and I know you know the quote, because when I cited it once a couple of years ago, you came right back with his "common sense" quote (good one!) I guess Voltaire expressed my thoughts much more concisely than I did, which is why he was a much greater writer than I'll ever hope to be. Cheers!
Myth? - April 17, 2009 - Report this comment
The leftist media is very real, as one can see from that CNN activist posing as a reporter who tried to harass one of the protesters at a TEA party two days ago and got her head handed to her. Of course, as the subsequent viewer ratings also demonstrated, the imminent death of the left- stream media is also very real: FOX's lowest-rated show got three times as many viewers as CNN's highest! Incidentally, I think everyone should be allowed to burn any media they want in protest of what they say, as long as they bought those things with their own money. It's for stealing student newspapers and burning them with the blessing and approval of the Marxist faculty at Cornell that we rightly call all the leftists at that benighted university fascists and thugs. MP, on the other hand, we merely disdain as a hypocritical scold for trying to tell us what we should or shouldn't read.

Trolling behind an anonymous proxy is not conducive to a long stay here.

But the moment you run, an admin can hit you (delete your post). .. However, Jack, I don't think Myth? quite qualifies as a troll, describing actual events and ratings (if true), and expressing an opinion, if a bit harshly. A lot of people don't realize that voicing their opinions more calmly earns them at least a little more ear than does ventilating rage. So long as guest posting is allowed, we have to realize that not everyone is so comfortable using their real name as I am :) :) :) lol :)

Oops... If you meant an "anonymous proxy server" as opposed to a logged IP, well, as I sit here in my living room, my lil' wireless laptop picks up anywhere from two to four of my neighbors' unsecured wireless networks. If that's not enough, I can go wardriving and find dozens more within a mile or so. So IPs really aren't that much protection anyway. Reporting of truly over-the-line posts and admin response is still the best protection. I found this out after recently becoming a forum moderator elsewhere. Cheers!
Red Ant - April 18, 2009 - Report this comment
True, TT. You also know that forum mods can view IPs as well as trace them... I seriously doubt someone supposedly in China gives two s**** about this parody. Funny how that IP leads to all kinds of recent reports from spam sites - your IP does not. =) Also, Mr. "Myth?" is pretty brazen in regards to reporting a comment made by ChuckyG (and, since "Myth?" is anonymous, I feel no need to keep that report a secret). If he doesn't like the site, he can PM the owner. The comments field is for feedback on the parody, not posting a bunch of political views that have no bearing to it whatsoever.

I think Piss Ant wrote something, but it seems to be gone now...
Tommy Turtle - April 20, 2009 - Report this comment
Red Ant, yes, there was something from your pissy poor-trash cousin (lol). DK that Myth's IP was in China -- uh-oh! ... relieved to know that my IP isn't being reported as a spammer -- thanks for the good news! Good points all around, and yes on the IP tracing. Was just saying that *if* someone wants to flame or whatever under a different IP, it's easy enough to do - and look at all the botnet machines that are sending out spam, etc. and their poor pwned owners don't even know it until the FBI knocks on the door...

Reporting a comment made by ChuckyG? To whom would you report it except to ChuckyG? I missed that one -- rofl funny if it weren't so dumb. Keep up the good admin work. Mike P. and I have agreed to disagree (politely), so I think I'm through at this page. Cheers, TT.
