The Lyrics

I crossed the Bill O'Reilly rubicon -- from laughing at him to seeing him for the fascist that he his on TV -- last Friday night when he stated that the problem is Americans who say things like "Bush is a murderer!". Because, blathered Bill, such comments are disrespectul of the man and the Presidency, and hurt us overseas. Huh. And I thought it was the Bush Administration's disrespecting of the Constitution, Bill of RIghts, military, and Treasury, and its amoral and illegal war in Iraq, that were the problems. Bloviate me, Mr. O'Reilly.
There is a swine named Bill O'Reilly
And he rides the low road
Smearing anyone who don't buy his fascist load
You hear him singing to his choir
In his sneering nasal whine
Yes the nitwit O'Reilly's way over the line

He needs a permanent vacation
"Cause he's done cooked his brain
And since Iraq's gone south the man's just more and more insane
And he preaches moral values
For a culture in decline
But the nitwit O'Reilly gets his sex on the line

So you need him like a tumor
His ideas aren't worth the time
Yes the nitwit O'Reilly's a cancerous slime

I don't know if you watch "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" on MSNBC, but Bill Orally frequently shows up on his nightly nominees for "Worst Person In the World." Olbermann usually does it tongue-in-cheek, putting companies that screw people over, dumb criminals, and Fox mouthpieces for the Administration ahead of, say, torturing dictactors (including Bush). But O'Really's comments on that sex-kidnapper case in Missouri and last week's house fire in The Bronx that killed several immigrants, mostly children, have led Olbermann to include him on the list with no trace of irony or humor. Considering that Billo, unlike Rush Limbaugh, has the talent and the intelligence to be the populist broadcasting hero he bills himself as, he should know better than to blame the victims. Maybe he actually is the worst person in the world.

You certainly put that boring old song to good use.

Hi Michael, I've been a Keith-O fan since his EPSN days but I missed the shows/topics you refer to from last week. But I'm not surprised he's maxed out on O'Reilly, humor-wise, too (we great and of course humble minds think alike). Bill has gone permanently over the line. Maybe he is TWPITW with a TV show and a radio gig. Oh wait-- let's not forget about Sean Hannity. Hello 2Eagle, not to look a gift comment in the mouth, but I really hope you're being ironic/sarcastic. Please bag on me first, last, and forever before you go after one of the greatest pop songs ever! If need be, Google 'Wichita Lineman', check out the Wikipepia entry and others, and see if you don't find a reference to one of your favorite artists or bands either covering WL or raving about it. Peace out and may Jimmy Webb and God forgive me for messing with a classic, even if for a worthwhile cause!

...and I've got _TO_ start writing in complete sentences using all the little connector words....
John Jenkins - March 22, 2007 - Report this comment
This parody is weighed down by its inappropriate use of “fascist.” Fascism involves forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism and regimenting all industry and commerce, which does not come close to describing Mr. O’Reilly's views or those of any candidate he supports. And of course, Keith Olbermann has a stalker-like obsession with O'Reilly, fuelled primarily by jealousy because the Factor has substantially higher ratings than Countdown.

Hmmm . . . well John, the practices of the current administration and republican party sound a lot like fascism to me.

Ri-i-i-ight, and O'Really doesn't go into convulsions when the subject of MSNBC is broached. His ratings have been going down ever since Olbermann's show started airing. At this rate, by the time of Hillary's -- I mean, the next election, Olbermann will have caught up. On that note, let's play Oddball: Norman, if Jimmy Webb hasn't made an objection to all our "MacArthur Park" parodies, which run the gamut from silly to damn near X-rated, then I think we're in the clear. Maybe someone should take a Jimmy Webb song and write a tribute to Jim Webb, the new Senator from Virginia.
SNtn - March 22, 2007 - Report this comment
Well Michael, I know Jimmy Webb likes at least one parody verse he cited in his great, everyone-who-writes-needs-to-buy book "Tunesmith", but he didn't write the 'The Addams Family' Theme it was based upon.... Goring his personal ox might be a horse of a different color just to mix some four-legged metaphors or somethin'. John J., Bill ain't leading the brownshirts into the streets to bust heads, but he's got the bullying down pat and he's well on his to collecting many of the 14 points identifying fascism. ironically mostly the "odd" ones, like #3 "Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause" --- the Loony Left, Soros, blah blah blah; #5 "Rampant sexism" --- loofah time....smoke his pipe....#11 Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts -- where to start?.... just to name the most obvious. Strictly speaking, I gues he's not a fascist (yet), just fascistically-inclined, I guess... but was Buddy Holly's "love" really bigger than a Cadillac? Did he need a literary license for that thing?

SNtn: I commend you for not giving a knee jerk reaction to my criticism of your parody, but trying to show the reasons that you reach the conclusions that you do. I still disagree, but I like your approach. For #3, it appears to me that Mr. Olbermann’s attacks on Mr. O’Reilly are better examples of “scapegoating” than Mr. O’Reilly’s attacks on the left. I won’t argue with you on #5 (but, do all of the sexual harassment claims against Bill Clinton make him a fascist?); and, on #11, it is my perception that Mr. O’Reilly enjoys having intellectuals and artists who disagree with him on the show.

Hi John J., we've got to stop meeting like this or people are going to get the crazy idea that people who may disagree politically or otherwise can actually have civilized and maybe even intelligent discourse. I get the impression that you will politely continue until you get complete capitulation on my part, my literary license and 'merely fascistically-inclined' bones not having done the trick. So I'll cut to the chase and say that you have enlightened me to the fact that words can be more powerful or inflammatory than sometimes intended and I will be a wee bit more careful in the future. I state for the record that Bill O'Reilly is not a fascist. I further state that in a strict reading of my lyrics I called Bill O'Reilly a "swine" possessing/presenting a "fascist load". When I record this on CD, I may well go back to something closer to my earlier line, "Smirking on the screen like a pompous, bloated toad". And I may well dial down my closing blast at him. I guess I was a wee bit more torqued at his remarks than I realized, or need to be. Thanks for some good feedback, food for thought, and discussion. I look forward to conversing with you in the future and sending you an autographed CD... 'nag' me at primenet dot com. Keep on keeping me honest! Peace Out, Brother.
