 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"Olbermann (Keith - Quit/Fired From MSNBC)"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

It went something like this:

Saturday: FG sends TT a News Flash: "Olbermann either quit or was fired!"
TT reads article; sends FG a parody idea to consider: "Galveston/Olbermann".
FG fiddling around while school burns (not! ;) -- no reply. So TT sends over a first draft.

Sunday: Playoff games. (FG: "Go, Packers!" -- and they did. ;)
Halftime of Jets/Steelers: FG sends comments, edits, etc., with note that w**k (pardon TT's language) precludes further rounds -- typical FG-TT collab is about three versions by each before finalizing -- but says to check out her previous parody of the same OS and title switch.
TT looks -- OMG -- the entire first-line sub was almost identical. No, despite the fact that he had commented on it several times, his feeble pea-brain didn't even remember her amazingly-prescient parody from March 2010, which noted in the intro that "... rumor has it his throne at MSNBC may just be starting to crumble...".
Sheepishly (heh!) switches first line to something different (all the rest already were), and submits the collaborative effort cheering KO's KO.

Monday: TT still buried under pile of year-end tax statements, with a Jan. 31 deadline, so FG will be replying to (any? ;) comments on behalf of both authors (one of the benefits of collaboration!), though perhaps a bit late in the evening.

But as Ahnold would say if he were TT (poor Arnie! ;) , "I'll be baaack" - with a song or two in the first week of February. ;-)

OS lyrics here. Video here.

Olbermann, Keith Olbermann
We all cheer to see him goin'
On TV, B. S., he's throwin'
Viewpoint: Leftist one
And so, left Olbermann

Olbermann, oh, Olbermann
With the big shots, always clashing   [1]
Truth? You botch: news canon, thrashing
Pack up and run
Main-stream? Not Olbermann   [2]

I still see him plugging for Obama   [3]
Stand: unfair: MS-NBC   [4]
E'en while debating Hillar-y   [5]
Hear him preach till the campaign's done

Olbermann, Keith Olbermann
Awful glad to see you flying
Abhor, decry: the years of lying
No more, this blotch; Each spree: turds plying with his tongue

'Bye, Olbermann ... Scram, Olbermann

[Olbermann fades to oblivion, or bolivia, or ... anywhere, just *fade* already!]

[1] From the linked article:
"Clashes with NBC/ MSNBC brass: It's never easy to manage someone who doesn't seem to care if they get fired. Olbermann already left MSNBC once before, in 1998, and stormed out of other networks before. One former ESPN colleague told the New Yorker that when Olbermann left the sports network in 1997, "he didn't burn bridges here—he napalmed them." And Olbermann was never shy about asserting that he—and not MSNBC Phil Griffin—called the shots on his 8 p.m. show. "Phil thinks he's my boss," Olbermann said in the same 2008 New Yorker profile."

[2]
"NBC/ MSNBC tension: For years, some NBC executives and stars have questioned whether Olbermann's strident views tarnish the NBC News brand. Veterans like Tom Brokaw and Andrea Mitchell have privately expressed concerns about Olbermann's partisan views, while MSNBC's coverage of major news events—such as the 2008 convention and 2010 midterms—raised questions about having opinionated hosts like Olbermann in the anchor chair. In October, the New York Times reported that top executives were even considering changing the name of MSNBC.com—the network's highly trafficked, non-partisan news site—because of a perceived connection to the cable network's liberal talkers."

Yes, we're aware that "certain other" cable news channels also have a definite editorial stance. Everyone does. The issue here is that anchoring or reporting *news* was once (when TT took a Journalism class at the age of twelve) considered separate and distinct from editorializing, analysis, or punditry. If NBC was embarrassed by KO, who are we to argue?

[3]
Most-egregious, speaks-for-itself: He and others at MSNBC actually wearing Obama campaign buttons while "covering' the 2008 POTUS race, interviewing the people-in-the-street, etc. (Res ipsa loquitur, as lawyers would say.)

[4]
"Fallout from the suspension: MSNBC cracked down on Olbermann in November after it was revealed that he gave donations to three Democratic candidates running in 2010, including Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Of course, Olbermann's political views are well known. But MSNBC said that Olbermann needed to ask permission first before making political contributions and, therefore, violated network policy."

.... Hey, it's their policy, not ours. If other stations - or his - want to hire potential future candidates as correspondents, that s their right, and everyone knows that they're politicos, not journalists. That is *not* the same thing as *anchoring news*. (Have we mentioned that yet?) KO knew the rules, agreed to play by them when he signed the contract, and broke them.

[5]
Olbermann probably wasn't solely responsible for the tone of his network's "debates" between Senators Obama and Hillary Clinton during the 2008 Democratic Primary campaign, which were so ludicrously biased that even ultra-liberal "Saturday Night Live" satirized them. (Host asks HC a question; she answers; host says, "No, the correct answer is xxx , *then asks Obama the same question". LOL, but not much of an exaggeration.) But he set the tone for the entire network, apparently.

THIS JUST IN:
"UPDATE: While the direct cause of Olbermann's exit from MSNBC remains unknown, according to the New York Times the two parties had been negotiating the terms of a separation for weeks. The final terms both prohibit Olbermann from discussing the deal publicly and limit his ability to work on television in the near future."

.... Greatly improving television. ;-D

Hey You Guys!!! And with the ear-shattering opening of The Electric Company, a long overdue "welcome back". To say you've been missed is to state the obvious. Carrying-on here is difficult when there's nobody to play "second fiddle" to. (Intentional ending of a sentence with a preposition!) It's also shaTTering trauma not to see footnotes for those who are not among the cognoscente. BTW, good parody! If you lump this event in with the departure of Rhambo, the arrival of William Daley and Jeffrey Immelt, plus the re-assigning of Gibbs and Alexrod, then the reason for Olbermann's exit becomes evident....Obama is changing his "staff"! Y'all come back now, y'hear! ;D

I have never been in the economic position of being able to afford cable TV, so I have only the vaguest notion of who Keith Olbermann is. I do believe I saw the Saturday Night Live skit. The mainstream media is entirely left-biased. This guy must have been just a little more blatant (or honest) about it. I have always been amazed by people such as this who have enough money they can casually blow off multi-big-figure jobs, knowing they will quickly find someone else to take them on. As OMR said, welcome back, you are sorely missed. If the Tea Party is really serious they'll lean on their reps to abolish the G-D income tax and do away with all this annual ritual of submission. There are far better things we can all be doing with our time

A pox on all of 'em.

@ OMR: As far as I'm concerned, you play "second fiddle" to *no one*! :) LOL @ the changing of the staff... and thank you kindly for v/c!

@ Patrick: You're probably not missing much on the TV front. As for the MSM-- there are actually people who immediately began broadcasting, tweeting, blogging, etc., about how his dismissal reflects the long-standing and obviously *conservative* media bias! My sides still hurt from laughing so hard... :)

@ JAB: Isn't it sad what passes for "news" these days? Appreciate v/c, as always. :)

The return of TT and FG is a lot more welcome than the future inevitable return of Mr. Olberman will be.

@ Chuck K.: Thanks-- laughter is the best tonic, they say. Fortunately, there's no shortage of material in the media. :)

@ TJC: LOL @ "olberbearing"... Absolutely perfect! :) Thanks for witty v/c, as always.

That one game will still haunt me, Keith tried to kill me.
Over-Taxed Turtle (uncharacteristically brief) - January 24, 2011 - Report this comment
OMR: What FG said about KO on BO's staff - ROFL!!

Patrick: (avoiding dupe of FG): Income tax has been proven to be one of the least cost-effective methods of raising Gov revenue. IIRC, about 30-40% goes to support the whole bureaucracy, Tax Courts, etc., not to mention the millions of person-hours spent by businesses and individuals to comply -- including moi. :-(
Thanks, and continue to save your money vs. cablevision.

John Barry: Ditto.

Chuck Knoblauch: Always happy to help, but enlighten the pea-brained reptile -- what is an "E-5 game"? (And how did Keith -- "our" Keith? -- try to kill you? And why not press charges?) Thanks for the v/c.

TJC: "Right" on! Dead-center with comment, as ewesual, and that's being conservative! ;)

John Jenkins: Re: KO return: Sad, but true. Why don't all these people who say they're leaving for good ever keep their word? (and thanks for *your* word-s.)

I used to play second base for the New York Yankees and my defense stunk. In one of the games I accidentally nailed his mom.

If I weren't the kind, gentle soul that I am, I would have wished that you'd hit Olbermann in the face instead. ;-D ... but I don't wish him (or anyone) evil, just glad he's leaving.

Took a brief glimpse @ your bio on WP. Guess "E-5" = 5 errors. (I don't follow baseball.) Unfortunate, to have had that difficulty. Was it ever diagnosed? (Vision, muscular, neurological issue, etc.?) - if you care to share.

We have a lot of people here who comment under pseudonyms (not moi, of course ;), occasionally those of real people. E. g., at the Fiddlegirl parody linked in the intro, this writer commented once as "Barack Obama", and another time as his Press Secretary, "Robert Gibbs". Everyone knows it's not really those people. (Sometimes it's not apparent who the real commenter is, but my commenting style is, uh, "unique", and I always TThrow in a few clues to the real ideTiTy anyway.)

If that's what you did, cool, and funny! -- except that I don't think anyone "got" it without doing the research, unless they're pretty hard-core baseball fans. Your only other comment at *our* songs (or at the solo efforts of either of us) was at said linked FG parody, which was also about K. O., and the comment was just a simple "LOL". I doubt anyone picked up the connection there, either.

We sort of expected Michael Pacholek to show up, as he's strongly leftist and usually gives us a good rant/comment, and he's also quite the Yankees fan. But unless he did the 111 votes anonymously, which is unilke Michael - he's one of the few here who has the guts to sign his name to 1 votes, and also separates pacing from content, i. e., 5-1-1, he must not have suited up today. Maybe I should see if I can PM him or something. He'd like the gag references, and if you *are* the actual CK, he'd get a kick out of meeting you here, I'm sure.

Also, if you're the Real Thing, you missed a tribute to you:
"My Glove Don't Catch A Thing (The Chuck Knoblauch Song)"
http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/jenniferlopez5.shtml

And if you're he, I'm curious: How did you discover this site and these songs? It can't be by constantly Googling yourself, because this song apparently isn't cached there yet. (I checked). And you wouldn't have missed the above tribute.... Not a parodist yourself, apparently, or at least, not enough song posts (10) to be listed on the Author page. Kind of suggests the funny-pseudonym theory. (There was a second wild thrower on the non-grassy knoll, sometimes referred to as the "pitcher's mound', according to certain conspiracy theories. ;) Just curious, and glad you stopped by. Thanks for the vote and comments. Good luck, and go easy on the garlic -- especially on Mrs. Garlic. [1]

How very prescient the Wall of Voodoo "Mexican Radio" parody "Olbermann's Stupid Show" proved to be! That no-talent leftard's remaining viewer (whose last name rhymes with "acholek") must be feeling really crushed right about now...

Appreciate your v/c, but couldst perhaps state the comment factually vs. ad hominem? Olbermann's facts, as described here, speak for themselves. Thanks again for the visit.

Here's the rest of the story (oops) - April 05, 2012 - Report this comment
"TMZ is reporting that fired broadcaster Keith Olbermann is suing his former employer Current TV for tens of millions of dollars. The Associated Press and CNN have also reported the suit.

Olbermann, who came to Current from MSNBC less than a year ago, (COUGHseeaboveparodyCOUGH)was fired late last week via a rather humiliating open letter from company honchos Al Gore and Joel Hyatt. Olbermann's replacement: Eliot Spitzer.

(wow, you know you've hit bottom when Al Gore thinks you're lower scum than Eliot Spitzer)

"Olbermann fired back via Twitter, and one quickly saw that this was one spat that wasn't going to go away anytime soon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Olbermann and his attorneys contend that Current TV committed "breach of contact, sabotage and disparagement."

"But the hits don't stop there.
Business Insider reports that the language in the lawsuit is "heavy on the dramatics." One choice bit:
"After being enticed to leave MSNBC and come to Current with promises of editorial control, freedom from corporate influence, and the professional support to produce high-caliber political commentary show of the type his viewers have come to expect, Keith Olbermann was disheartened to discover Al Gore, Joel Hyatt, and the management of Current are no more than dilettantes portraying entertainment industry executives."

(Al Gore a "dilettante", not an "entertainment industry executive"? Who knew? -- uh, *we* did, with his movie fakeumentary, "An Inconvenient Truth".)

"Another:
"Hyatt created an environment in which major business errors and technical failures became commonplace and acceptable." The suit continues that when Olbermann rebuffed Hyatt's advances at friendship, "Hyatt reacted by withholding necessary production resources, disparaging Olbermann in the press," and much, much more."
