This parody is about 50 years too late but better than never. The first prime-time adult-oriented cartoon series, The Flintstones was quite a novelty when it first started, but soon degenerated into overexposed franchised formula fodder. Of course the stone age setting wasn't to be taken seriously, but a lot of impressionable kids watched it, and there's a disturbing indication that quite a few adults think dinosaurs and people were contemporaneous. Now I wonder where that came from ...

Flintstones, meet the Flintstones
Modern TV stone-age family
Low-brow as the bedrock
They're an insult to prehistory
They use dinosaurs for clothes and meat
Make all science teachers obsolete

I met a preacher last year at a street festival in Leavenworth, Kansas. He was distributing free copies of Charles Darwin's "The Origin of Species". According to his creationist views, humans and dinosaurs were contemporaries. He laughed when I said that's what I learned from "The Flintstones". You certainly have made a case for the other point of view. Check out my take on prehistoric music on today's "slate".

I confess I'm a Flintstone fan like AFW, but I do admit this was a well chiseled piece.
Glad u added the third verse. Enjoyed it but especially the flintgroan and blarney Barney lines
Now I always thought the Flintstones was just the cartoon version of the Honeymooners. I always enjoyed watching it though. Much better than the Jetsons, which I couldn't get into at all. I could never figure out why they stuck the cat outside at night, however. Seemed mean to me. ;D

Thanks for v/c all. You know what? I've got a soft spot for the Flintstones too. But I don't think I could sit through an episode now. Sorry I couldn't fit Fred and Barney's families in there, but at least there's an indirect reference to the cat.
@ Merry: 'Putting out the cat' before bedtime was a standard ritual where I come from, but then, it never gets life-threateningly cold there. But that was in the days before people realized what terrible damage cats do to the environment. I remember asking my ex why we have to put out the cat and she said 'Because it's a cat!' And she was a cat-lover (but that doesn't necessarily mean she loves cats). Actually one of our cats used to get beaten up a lot, and he was much happier when we let him stay in. He eventually died from a bite wound, due to feline AIDS we think.
Problem is, cats are nocturnal and young toms need to let off steam. So they destroy the living room furniture from the inside out. That's probably why the Flintstones put theirs out.
