The Lyrics

It's a bad year for groundhogs with the brutal snow so far this winter, but maybe even more so as we wonder what happened to Jimmy the Groundhog, who bit Mayor Jonathan Freund of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin on that fateful February 2nd. See story at: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-jimmy-the-groundhog-turns-on-wisconsin-mayor-20150202-story.html
This tragic rodent
I’m sniffin’ him in stew
Was like many brothers
Until he bit you

And Jon, he zapped you
On ear, but not in eyes
Beshrew as you felt the chew
So you cook, his demise

Heated that swine
Offed him for a Jimmy bite
Early Spring won’t quell the gaffe
Endeavor did mold your spite

This tragic rodent
Vile, he rips a gross blood line
The gash won’t sever
But beaver will be next in line

Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh

Tweeting he’ll dine
Offer plan for Jimmy spite
Chicken wings or ham or calf
Will never assuage his plight

This tragic rodent
Swell with chips and glass of wine
Cannot recover
He never meant to chomp, his crime

Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh

This tragic rodent
This tragic rodent
This tragic rodent

Hi Timmy, I love in when someone dredges up an oldie that has up till now escaped me, thanks for that :) I saw this on the news the other day and thought "Finally!!" I have been wanting this to happen for years, Now it has and I am complete. Rodent power. I thought your parody captured the moment nicely.

Clever stuff, Timmy—it's about time we saw a beaver bashing that didn't involve Kardashians! A lot of your imagery (quell the gaffe/assuage his plight/mold your spite) is truly Barryesque (one of my fav wordsmiths!)

Perfect title switch and great execution! Now let's hope that bite doesn't add 6 more weeks till spring arrives. Maybe Sun Prairie should get Mike Tyson to handle the groundhog next year.

Thanks all. Maybe he just bit because he was irritated by the winter he knew was still ahead. I was surprised how many groundhog ceremonies there are - I thought it was just Punxatawny.

DKTOS, so I'll trust you on the pacing. A true story, too? Brilliant :-D

A friend of mine was losing a lot of trees around his lake to an over-eager beaver. Popped him with a .22 and then cooked him. I didn't know what was in that stew until after I tasted it. Some folks that did know ate it anyway.

Didn’t know the OS, the band or the story but your retelling fit the OS lyrics well.

Great title switch. Not sure how we went from groundhog to beaver, or which was being cooked, but I imagine beaver gets eaten a LOT more than groundhog... ;)
