The Lyrics

Jimmy Dean's song about a coal miner named Big, Bad John. Sing to the tune of Big Bad John, by Jimmy Dean:
Every morning at the mosque you would see him arrive
He stood on a soapbox just spoutin' out jive
Kinda pouchy in the belly and not very hip
And everyone knew he would give you lip, big Bob.

No one seemed to know where Bob called home
He'd just drifted on state TV and babeled all alone
With a command of English that made you sweat
But lies in broken English is all you'll get from big Bob

Someone said he came to Baghdad from the northern scene
Where he got into a fight with the Kurds so mean
With a pontificating speech from his lyin' mouth
They sent his lyin' butt to Saddam down south, big Bob, big Bob,
Bagdad Bob.

Then came the day in the middle of the shrine
When the roof cracked open with a JDAM's whine
Fedayeens were a prayin' and their hearts beat fast
And everyone thought jihad had breathed its last, 'cept Bob.

Through the dust and smoke with that warlike smell
Walked a lyin' little man that the thugs knew well
Grabbed a saggin' stage set, and with a low moan
Like a screamin' siren let go with his droan.
Big Bob, big Bob, Bagdad Bob.

And With his 'gift of gab' he spun a crafty tale
About wag the dog and our troops knocked off the trail
And a thousand fedayeen scrambled toward the edge of town
Just in time for the third herd to mow all of them down - big Bob

With uniforms a sheaded they started to back down
Then they felt that rumble on every inch of ground
And when Bradleys and Abrams burst upon the scene
Everyone knew it was the end for the guard and fedayeen

Now where Bagdad Bob has gone is anybody's guess
He lied to all the people and left them in a mess
These few words were written on the palace
It was really 'wag the dog'
I never meant no malice.
Big Bob - big Bob, Baghdad Bob.

It is not true! The Americans have not taken over Baghdad! Infidels are committing suicide in the streets!

You brought the original song up to date, but I think of The Ballad of Irving by Frank Gallop when I hear that song.

2Eagle - Where did you dig this old thing up from. I'd forgotten I'd done this. I re-read it and I am my own worst critic. It could have been done a lot better. Seems like a lot of the comments have disappeared. It was posted on 5/26/2003 when I first began writing on this site. Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated.
