The Lyrics

Nobody can say that last week was a slow news cycle. So much material presented itself that I was in a quandry about which stories to parody and lampoon. Finally, I had a flash of inspiration...do them all in one shot. I doubt that many of you know Jimmy Durante, much less the original song. Anyway, here is News Man Ribber. ;D

Well, it was...

One of those weeks that we folks seldom see,
Chock-full of surprises and pure lunacy,
With stunning reversals and dictator rants
And late night celebs who got kicked in the pants,
A shocking election with all it can mean,
A shameless old scumbag who finally came clean.
So much seldom happens! So I'll bring to you
The last seven days in review.

Chavez claimed that we have an earthquake device.
We flattened poor Haiti - not one time but thrice!
He says it's all part of our terrible plan.
We're going to use it to wipe out Iran.
Al Franken's "Air" network has folded its tent.
Most folks will not miss it - too liberal bent!
The Whie House gatecrashers got grilled on The Hill.
You ask "Tell me more", so I will.

The Late Night debacle is finally complete.
Poor Conan is out, Jay's back in Johnny's seat.
We're watching the meltdown of proud N.B.C.
They've lost all their ratings and integrity.
And smarmy John Edwards - 'though he had denied -
Admitted he'd fathered the child, so he lied!
It's been a wild week as we all can attest.
Get ready 'cause here comes the best!

Up in Massachusetts, the G.O.P. won
Ted Kennedy's seat and the Dems are all stunned.
Obama Care's future might be sinking boats.
Pelosi's now saying "We don't have the votes."
Obama has hedged on his grandiose plan.
He hasn't closed Gitmo, he's not on C-SPAN.
These last seven days for a parody geek
Were surely one wonderful week!
Man alive, what a week!

I missed one. The Unobomber is still at large! ;D

Thanks for the update - glad I didn't waste any time watching or reading the news, except for my nightly news on The Daily Show.

Hell of a week. Don't know why NBC was an idiot and decided to get rid of COnan.

I'm grizzled and wizened, so I remember Durante, The Schnozz. You have a nose for news skewering, OMR.

You should be a newsman....

And that's the way it was on OMR news at 5:55.

Way to put journalism into a parody, OMR! Most of the time the news makes every story controversial, so I'm glad I read/sang your parody today. You just leaked 555 to the press.

Thanks. Good night and good luck! ;D

I'm going to expect another every Monday! It's a worthy successor to That Was The Week That Was (remember Tom Lehrer?), and it rivals NPR Marketplace's Week-in-a-Minute poem. 555 despite the Whie House typo.
