Original Song Title:

"Wanted Man"

Original Performer:

Johnny Cash

Parody Song Title:

"Hanged Man"

Parody Written by:

Susanna Viljanen

The Lyrics

Hanged man in South Korea,
Hanged man in Washington
Hanged man in old Zimbabwe
Hanged man in Singapore

Hanged man down in Jamaica,
Hanged man in ol' Japan
Wherever you might look tonight
you might see this hanged man

I might be in cell on death row
or be eating my last meals
Sentenced by some man who may not know
at all of my all deeds

If you ever see me hanging
then you know there is no hope
Don't you breathe it to nobody
'cause you know who's on the rope

Hanged man by Albert Pierrepoint,
Hanged man by John C. Woods
Hanged man by Johann Reichhart
Hanged by men in weird white hoods

I've committed quite transgressions
and a lot of crimes I've had
And a lot more than I needed of
some things that turned out bad

I did poisoning in Osaka
Smuggled dope to Singapore
Did blasphemy down in Iran
Made revolting in Cairo

I did buggery in Damascus
practised witchcraft in Kabul
I was a pirate in Malaysia
and hijacked a plane in Seoul

Hanged man in Walla Walla,
Hanged man in Changi Jail
Hanged man in Wandsworth Prison,
Hanged man on Iranian crane

There's somebody set to grab me
And they want to stretch my neck
Yet I always somehow rise from dead
and I think "Oh, what the heck"

Hanged man in South Korea,
Hanged man in Washington
Hanged man in old Zimbabwe
Hanged man in Singapore

Hanged man down in Jamaica
Hanged man in ol' Japan
Wherever you might look tonight
you might see this hanged man

Better to be well-hung than well-hanged. Not familiar with the original song, but your lyrics are a testimonial to a familiarity with capital punishment. Have you seen the movie about Albert Pierrepoint? I am trying to find a poem I once saw about a hanging in Cooperstown New York in the 1820's. The grandstands built for the spectators collapsed and several of the witnesses were killed.

Yes, I have. It is an utterly brutal film in all its realness - on what capital punishment by hanging is. Let's say I didn't sleep well that evening. I tried to twist out some gallows humour of a dead serious issue.

Susanna - "gallows humor " "dead serious". If done right, hanging is a "relatively" humane method of capital punishment (an oxymoron - confliction of terms - if there ever was one!). A dark and VERY nicely done parody. ;D

Dark and deep.
