The Lyrics

....can't move soon enough!
I nearly moved here in ninety-three
But objective sense got the better of me
Tho' I was in a crisis, didn't know what to do
I checked the place out one night and hid
But the stupidest thing I ever did
In the year just left, I moved into Redruth

I thought the place had many good folk
Though now I find that that's just a joke
It seems they like to fight the whole year through
On walls they piddle, place is littered
It's no laugh, you'd wish you were dead
I tell you, life ain't breezy livin' in Redruth

Pockets get picked an' people are mean
They're all so hard, its quite obscene
I tried to hide my frown and not to blame
But somehow under cctv 'n' stars
Folk keep on vandalising the cars
It's crap here & I'm going quite insane

Well, It was Trevithick Day around April
Though 'twas Spring the place had a chill
I moved there to escape a cow called Sue
In a few days they vandalised my bus
I kept quiet not wanting a fuss
And hoped it might not always be such a rum do

It's full of bigger snakes than you ever had
If you were anywhere else you'd be glad
And if you can't escape you'd really rather die
It's grey and bent and everything's old
The atmosphere's always cold
And I stress in Redruth there is nothing to do
Except try to die! That's what I'm sayin'

It hits you hard and makes you cry
After this won't come as no surprise
If you come here you'll find there's no cheer
You'll get busted and'll lose your teeth
You can't walk tall or out on the street
You'll be kicked in the guts thrown in mud an'
get no beer

I'll tell ya I can't remember when
I've ever seen such ugly men
That were such fools and really so hostile
They never laugh and always take the piss
They just chew gum and make it last
And stand there looking though their full of bile

And they say "Girl, Redruth is rough
And if your gonna stay here ya gotta be tough"
And I knew I wasn't gonna stay here long
The estate agent came and I said to sell
This place ain't making me feel well
And it's Redruth that helped to write this song

He said "You got just got the timing right
And if you wait we'll get a bite
And sell the house just the way you wanna do
But take anything offered and run
For greener pastures and the sun
Cos thats the only way to escape Redruth"

So I'm all fired up and Im ready to run
and I'll smile at the viewers and say it's such fun
In Redruth now where there's so much to do
And I'll dream about a better life
Where I'm not living with such strife
And if I ever get to go, I think Im gonna go any place
even Timbuktu!
