THE BEATLEMANIA SCENES
When I was fourteen we took a little trip
In our old FC Holden up to Melbourne feelin' hip
The Mersey beat was shakin' up and hookin' all the teens
And Dad was bloody British though he didn't wear tight jeans
It fired our bums that the Beatles were a comin'
Life wasn't nigh as boring as it was a while ago
We parked our car and then began to runnin'
Up on Exhibition to the Southern Cross's door*
We looked down the hillside and we saw a horde had come
There must have been ten thousand of 'em chewin' spearmint gum
The pitch was high and it made the city ring
We stood in the middle but we couldn't see a thing
It wired us numb that the Beatles were a comin'
Elv wasn't nigh as cool now as he was a while ago
The great Fab Four, Beatlemania high was runnin'
Up on Exhibition at the Southern Cross's door
Police on horseback tried to keep things organized
Some girls start to flake it, looks like they are gonna die
We held our ground but the crowd began to swell
Then we opened up our eyes and we saw them really well
There they were on the balcony above us
They'd slipped in the back way a little while ago
The crowd went wild so amazed they could catch 'em
John, Paul, George and a stand-in for Ringo**
Yeah, they waved to the fans and they waved to the cameras
And they waved to the p'licemen and the horses down below
Hits hard and fast and plenty more a comin'
Down in Melbourne town there almost fifty years ago
Girls screamed their lungs out till their panties melted down
Holy fab-three adulation, we were rooted to the ground
It fills my head with fond recalls, so vivid in my mind
The sight that set the crowd right off, can never leave behind
Their fine albums, non-stop with guitars strummin'
They wasn't nigh unscratched-up as they was a while ago
That great moment when the Beatles were a comin'
Up on Exhibition at the Southern Cross's door
Yeah, they waved to the teens and they waved to the oldies
And they waved to the cameras for the folks at home, you know
In June '64 there was no-one could touch 'em
John, Paul, George and invisible Ringo
