The Lyrics

Inambo Shima is a large rock off the east coast of Japan, covered in bird guano, which the US had treaty rights to use for target practice. One day we arrived there and there was a small fleet of Japanese fishing boats between us and the island. By the time we scared them away it was too late to shoot any bird shit. This story is pretty much true. The thoughts and political orientation of our opponents, we of course, can only surmise. Otherwise, it went down just like the song tells.
The Battle of Inamboshima

In nineteen sixty three we spent a little while
Wasting all our ammunition shooting ‘Namboshima isle
We came upon Inamboshima later in the day
All around it were some fishing boats that wouldn't go away

(chorus)

We fired our guns, but the fishermen kept fishing
We tooted our whistle, but they wouldn't even go
We steamed in circles while we pondered our decision
As to how we'd ever rid ourselves of such a trickey foe.

Ol Squeeky said that they didn't have the right
To be in our territory they were looking for a fight
They were fishing off our island, ‘twas an evil commie plan
So like true and noble patriots we had to make our stand

(chorus)

We looked toward the island and we saw the boats go by
We knew that such fanatics wouldn't hesitat to die
We knew of our heroic deed posterity would tell
So we opened up our three inch guns and really gave em, well…

(chorus)

We shot a hole in the middle of a net
We dropped a shell beside a boat and got the crew all wet
They heaved on their nets till they made their winches sing
We sat beside our radar set and didn't say a thing

(chorus)

Now landsmen all you have heard the story told.
A tale of dauntless courage that that will surely ne'er grow old.
How a bunch of commie fishermen full of craft and wile
Were defeated at the Battle of Inamboshima Isle

(chorus)

ChuckyG gave me the heads-up to be on the lookout for you guys. This is an interesting look back into history, and I'm sure all of forthcoming parodies will be quite unique as well. When were these written? I was told early to mid-60s... wow, 40+ years ago. Quite excellent pacing and rhyming, and keeping the chorus the same would have made this much easier to sing. Great work guys. Tough OS (Original Song), too.
