Parody Song Title:

"Here's My Sesquihectospoof For AmIRight Submission"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Come, give a listen, let me drum up some fives!
Crumbs are just dissing, it’s for plums I contrive.

Here’s my sesquihectospoof** for AmIRight submission
crafted, I’ll confess up front, with unselfless ambition
which the verses following should give clear definition
in my sesquihectospoof for AmIRight submission.

Come, give a listen, let me drum up some fives!
Crumbs are just dissing, it’s for plums I contrive.

Now, ev’ry AmIRighter’s spun
this figment for himself:
“I write my spoofs just for the fun,
not for vote/comment pelf.”
And so since ev’ry author sells
herself this self-same lie,
ev’ry author, too, “Like Hell”s
when other authors try.

(And …)
so my sesquihectospoof for AmIRight submission
won’t rely for landing laud on wit or erudition.
Rather I shall make a plea-for-plaudits composition
of my sesquihectospoof for AmIRight submission.

A parody that overlays
its model’s rhymes and pace
then gilds the lily with displays
of lexidextrous grace
-- neologisms, puns, allusion --
feasts on 5s if read
but left by readers in seclusion
languishes instead.

(So…)
Save my sesquihectospoof for AmIRight submission
from a 5-less fate I ask (and ask without contrition).
Give three 5s (unread or read, that’s up to your volition)
to my sesquihectospoof for AmIRight submission

Come, give a listen, let me drum up some fives!
Crumbs are just dissing, it’s for plums I contrive.

This high fives-slapping game I know
the kids all love to play:
“Up high,” “Down low,” then “You’re too slow!”
as palm is pulled away.
And tho’ such games can be great fun,
please hand me no hand jive --
all I want (from ev’ryone!)
's a good ol’ 5-5-5.

(So …)
Here’s my sesquihectospoof for AmIRight submmission
asking AmIRighters to create a coalition
to confer the kudos for which is a plain petition
this, my sesquihectospoof for AmIRight submission.

** sesquihectospoof - a reasonably lexically licit construction meaning 150th parody :-)

Yes...congrats on #150. If parodies were crossword puzzles this would be a New York Times "Friday" contenter.

Congrats, Stan! 150 divided by 10 is 15, 3 5s.

Man, Stan! I am glad you explained sesquihectospoof. I thought it was an Indian tribe or something! Congrats!

Well, 150. . .getting there a bit quickly. It was a good idea with a lot of interesting rhyme schemes. . .only problem was some pacing quibbles. No biggie, it's a tough song to pace. based on the parody itself, I wasn't sure if you wanted my 5s or not:) But mine is "read" on this one My posts help me decide what to record and what not to record, but I do see what you mean--this one is on the Big 7 list, congrats on that.

Thanks to all you compliant readers (and I do actually prefer to be read, regardless the commentary outcome) and also to any compliant nonreaders.

BAD -- "Super..." is a fun one to play with; this is my 3rd whack at it. Re the Big 7, I've done 4 of'em (this one, Amer. PIe, Fav. Things, Major Gen) at least once each and have an Ed Fitz in the hopper that's being bulit verse by verse as the inspiration strikes. I need to familiarize myself much more with Bo Rhaps before tilting at that windmill. And I can't remember what the 7th song is. Shrug. :-)

I knocked out all 7 on one day, I did a theme using the seven deadly sins in January of this year, but my parodies for Sloth and Lust both need some work. . .I didn't realize "Edmund Fitzgerald" had an actual rhyme scheme, it is so full of half rhymes that I missed it completely, and though I will eventual fix it, I hate TOS with a passion--it reminds me of Desolation Row, Major General I don't have a problem with, but I need to tune the pacing on my version of it.

I do most of my composing in wetware during my 20-minute morning commute, then type'em in and submit 1st thing after reaching work, or type in and save what I have of longer ones.
Great idea re the sins theme. My first idea for Ed Fitz (of which OS I may be AIRs only confessed liker) was either the Billof Rights or the 10 Commandments, with the extra verses used for theme intro and editorializing exit. Didn't like initial results, and what's currently perking is a retelling of the Bobbitt saga. MG is, I think, actually one of teh easier ones to rhyme and pace, but becomes a little tougher when strictly observing the trisyllabic end rhymes and the metastructure. One of my MG submissions is actually a primer on how to write an MG parody: http://www.amiright.com/parody/misc/gilbertsullivan72.shtml (Plug, plug :-) ) If you happen to read it, do note my subtending self-comment re a typo a pacing-disrupting typo that ironically occurs in the very line dealing with pacing. :-)

Great job as usual, Stan. This may very well be the longest parody title I have seen in my year and a half as Amiright's "patron saint of parodies that no one else will comment and/or vote on [my own words]) and writer of parodies that are best forgotten, not to mention doing the same on works by legends such as AFW, Agrimorfee, Guy DiRito and yourself. I will give you 5's straight across, and your idea for a John Wayne Bobbit-themed Ed Fitz parody is a good one. I look forward to seeing it, commenting, and voting.

Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention this: Happy 150th Parody!
Stan - December 07, 2008 - Report this comment
Andria --- thanks and thanks. Re the Ed Fitz/Bobbitt, it may be awhile. As I mentioned to BAD, it's under construction verse by intermittent verse, and constantly being backburnered to other ideas. :-)

At 150 already? Feels like only yesterday you'd only just turned up here... congrats & all that, and a fun one to hit the mark with (though I have in the past described doing this OS as the parody equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel, I can hardly complain about others use of it given that I've parodied it 3 times myself)
Stan - December 08, 2008 - Report this comment
Thanks, Phil. Agree re "Super ..." and embarrelled fish, but t is a fun tune. :-)

Phil -- and BTW, this was my 3rd "Super ..." as well, so I guess we're equally guilty fisherment. :-)
