Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Young Vinny has been arrested for stealing a DVD player. His lawyer is preparing him for his defence..................................................................................to read it to the music in the background, click here for the original recording

LAWYER
Let's start at the scene of the break-in
a very good place to start
we will plead that you needed a DVD
then repeat after me - say "don't blame me"

(Vinny: "don't blame me")
don't blame me

It's not really your fault you see

don't blame me
(Vinny: "don't blame me")

don't - blame - me - my - mum - once - spanked...
oh, let's see if I can make it sleazier...

Don't......it really means "do not"
blame......a most vindictive word
me......a boy who's wronged a lot
my......on me it's been conferred
mum......an evil mastermind
once......upon a time (sniff) she...
smacked......my 2-year-old behind
and it scarred and damaged
me me me me

(repeat twice with VINNY joining in)

don't-blame-me-my-mum-once-spanked-me!
boo-
hoo!

LAWYER
Now Vinny! Sad experiences from your childhood are the tools we need
to win over jurors
Once you have a few in your head you can justify a million things
by being unaccountable
like this...

When - you're - fed - peas - as - a - child
Can you do that?

VINNY
When - you're - fed - peas - as - a - child

LAWYER
you're - en - titled - to - go - wild

VINNY
you're - en - titled - to - go - wild

LAWYER
Now put it all together

BOTH
When - you're - fed - peas - as - a - child
you're - en - titled - to - go - wild

LAWYER
Good!

VINNY
But that doesn't mean anything

LAWYER
So we put a spin to it - twist it round to trick people
like this...

coz - I - ate - them - and - I - hurled
I - got - ang - ry - at - the - world
Together!

BOTH
coz - I - ate - them - and - I - hurled
I - got - ang - ry - at - the - world

LAWYER THEN VINNY
Don't......it clearly means to stop
blame......a most vindictive term
me......a boy who's guilty NOT!
mum......an evil-doing worm
made......a nicer word for forced
me......a kid who tries to please
eat......an act I like of course
that's unless it in-volves
PEAS!

don't - blame - me - mum - made - me - eat - peas

force - fed - peas - guil - ty - don't - find...

VINNY
...poor poor me
me me spanked
now bad bad
mum to thank

please-don't-see
through-this-wank
"not-guilty"
in-the-bank

LAWYER
They - can't - get - you - for - your - crimes
You - have - been - through - real - tough - times

LAWYER AND VINNY
Don't......it really means "do not"
blame......a horrid thing to do
me......a boy who just does what
my......impulses tell me to
mum......she turned me into this
once......upon a time (sob) she...
smacked......me when she should've kissed
and it scarred
and
dam-
aged
ME!

LAWYER
When - they - find - you're - not - to - blame
you - can - do - it - once...
twice
thrice
A-GAIN!!!

VINNY
yee...HAR!!!!!

Very funny, and well paced. The "mum" definitions were my favorite...

thanks John B, thanks AFW, thanks Rick (esp for the very Julie Andrewsish "marvellous") - thanks alvin - thanks Arwen (esp for the pacing endorsement;-) ) and for understanding the Australian spelling of the word "mom"
Jake A Ralphing (Luke Brattoni) - October 04, 2005 - Report this comment
Scathing satire on our contemporary legal system, Stu. Not to mention his behaviour being affected by his Ritalin reacting to all those spoonfuls of sugar... ;) 555

555 to the oldest juvenile delinquent on the block....(don't pretend this is not really about you, McArthur)....;-)

I too was surprised how long the OS was, Josh - so I recommend clicking on the OS to read it against - well, not now you've commented of course, but to any other readers who are interested....

thanks Arwen, maybe you're right (RIP McArthur's Fart - sniff)

SOTM - interesting twist on an old favorite. "coz - I - ate - them - and - I - hurled / I - got - ang - ry - at - the - world" is my favorite line. I don't know why.

(SOTM) DKTOS, read it. ;-)

Okay, okay, a serious evaluation. I downloaded the MP3 you provided (since I was DKTOS until then) and your pacing is excellent. It took me two listens through though since many end line rhymes were changed, which is not a bad thing. Your decision to put "(repeat twice with VINNY joining in)" was fine too since varying that part 3 times would have been a nightmare. Funny and sharp satire on the legal system where lawyers have used every conceivable defense strategy to get their clients acquitted. 5s.

Love the message, love the parody. Brilliant stuff.
Spaff.com - November 28, 2005 - Report this comment
Brilliant strategy. The next time I'm on trial (it shouldn't be long now), my defense is going to be "My mom (er, mum) made me repeatedly listen to THE SOUND OF MUSIC!" That being true, I know the original song way too well, but thanks for providing the MP3 - this was great fun to follow along with. Fave highlight (among many): "That's unless it involves PEAS!"

SOTM Having been forced-fed peas (at gunpoint) as a child, this really strikes home. So the verdict from here is hilariosity in the first degree. This reminds me of my 10-year old cousin, who shot out all the light of a putt-putt golf course next to his home with a bb gun. The cops knew he did it, but when they questioned him, they made the mistake of telling him they had his fingerprints on the bb's. I was there at the time, and he just smiled and said..."It couldn't have been me...I load my bb's with my mouth!" High fives, Stu

(SOTM) Peas aren't that bad as far as vegetables go, but this was very well done. Especially the chorus, but good all around. I'd much rather see/hear this performed than eat peas, and anyone who disagrees either has a terrible sense of humor or a terrible legume adiction.

Excellent spoof of how outrageous criminal lawyers can be, but Vinnie's defense is not as outrageous as Dan White's 1979 Twinkie defense (for murdering two people).
