"Workin' in old EDLIN"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Anyone ever use the old DOS line editor know as EDLIN.EXE?
Workin' on this scroll line
Keeps going down down
Holdin' down the shift nine
Whoop it made a wrap 'round

File lock truncation warning
An unsteady cursor now gone
Log in required
How wrong can this go down?

Lurkin' by the pound sign
I'm pressin' down down
Askin' for a new line
Oops I hear a beep sound

Goin' berserk with this warning
Called code will not run
Then the system tray crashes down
I'm so wired gonna get my gun

Shootin' at the online
System going down down
Never write with EDLIN
Whoosh there's no more beep sound

Hey, Guy, you're showing your age... I've not touched EDLIN for years: didn't it used to be a .COM file, though? But you're maligning the poor program: EDLIN was pretty much bulletproof, in fact the only bulletproof way of editing large files in DOS back in the days of 3.2 (before EDIT came out - that was DOS 5, wasn't it?)

Whatever it WAS, the parody is catchy.

Yeah, it was EDLIN.COM but I didn't want anyone thinking that it was some kind of a web site. (For all you who don't know, 'dot coms' at one time were executable command files in DOS). OK - Phil ya got me. I did COBOL programming on paper punch tape once upon a time using a remote dial up that had a real phone dial, not the keypad we have now.

DOS will never die! LOL

What do you get when you mate Mr. Edlin with Ms. Vi?

You've stumped me Susanna, I'll bite for the punchline.
