Song Parodies -> "From Dubya With Love"

Original Song Title:

"From Russia With Love"

Original Performer:

Lionel Bart, Matt Monro

Parody Song Title:

"From Dubya With Love"

Parody Written by:

Michael McVey

The Lyrics

From Dubya with love, we fly to you,
Much wiser since his dad's last war with you.
We've traveled the world to learn
we must return from Dubya with love.

We've seen places, faces, but no weapons of mass destruction,
But Saddam wanted his dad.
Still our tongue-tied young troops
Would not let on like they know
That he's mad,
He says you are bad.

To Iraq we flew, but there and then,
we suddenly knew there'd be no end.
Though Saddam may be through, it's true,
We fly to you from Dubya with love.

Michael, I will give you the same advice I gave to Rick on his submission of "Evolution" for E: Parodies with religious or political viewpoints are not good fodder for a parody contest. Parodies of that type CAN be done and be very funny to those of all persuasions, but it is very very difficult to achieve the humor balance. Often, they just come across to those of the opposite persuasion as 'mean spirited' and usually you will simply find those who agree with you voting high marks and those who disagree merely declining to vote, or worse yet, being asses and giving ones. Keep writing political parodies by all means, but you may want to consider entering non-political stuff in the contests... :-)

Incidentally, I did not votes you ones, I just didn't vote, as I felt I could not do so objectively...

(ABC) Merry's got a point.......but I like James Bond parodies, all politics aside, as long as they've got reasonably good wordsmithing.

(ABC) Pretty good parody, dismissing the politics. Good advice for further entries that Mer gave you!

lets hope it doesn't end up with the reintroduction of the draft......

couldn't find a good sample, so I'm not much good here. I give a fourth to what Merry said, though, as 2nd and 3rd are already taken.

DKTOS, but I love the title.

Actually, on the same day I submitted this I also submitted "To Kerry With Love" for balance, but that would go under the T's. I try to attack both the Right and the Left about equally. -- MM

(ABC3F) exactly what Johnny D said, and then exactly what Spaff said - in fact if I'd come up with that title, I too would have felt compelled to honour it, Mike - interested to see your Kerry one, and your philosophy's a good one, for mine, not because it avoids making enemies, but because politics is too important to treat like a football game (the "who's-side-are-you-on?" type of black and white nonsense) - Politicians have the power to send people to their deaths, so political issues are always grey and should be treated apolitically and on merits and values, and with thought and consideration - not with barracking (phew - I was only going to write one line - must be the wine typing)

(ABC3) I have no qualms about a well-written political parody. This is one of the better ones. Short and sweet.

(ABC3F) I have to agree with Meriadoc's first comment. I can find humor in either side being spoofed, but this just didn't do much for me, sorry. 534

Nicely done. Two From Russia With Love parodies in the same contest, interesting.

(ABC-F) Not necessarily funny...but certainly factual.
Rick C - September 12, 2006 - Report this comment
(ABC3-F) Well written, factual and I found it funny as well. 555

(ABC3F) Well written, Michael...but to be honest, it didn't do anything for me. 544
