The Lyrics

For Malcolm Higgins, it was about having a lobotomy. For me, it's more like
having feelings about not feeling my feelings. And that hurts.
Everyone I know is goin' through the motions
(Come on, baby, go through all the motions)
It's easier than dealin' with your human emotions
(Come on, baby, go through all the motions)

It's like an epidemic of a mental malaise
And possibly related to these wartime days
So come on, come on, and go
Through the motions with me

Come on an ego trip, now
Come on,
Bump up
Prozac
Don't even think about Iraq, no, no

Into deep depression I'm beginnin' to sink, now
(Come on, baby, go through all the motions)
If only my insurance plan would pay for a shrink, now
(Come on, baby, go through all the motions)

I'm feelin' pretty low, but don't worry 'bout me
I'm not down in Guantánamo, a detainee!
So come on, come on, and go
Through the motions with me

(Instrumental--Marine marching band)

Better check yourself and don't get into cocaine, now
(Come on, baby, go through all the motions)
Even megavitamins can frazzle your brain, now
(Come on, baby, go through all the motions)
You wake up in delirium and out of control
A little bit of prison and a lot of dough!
So come on, come on, and go
Through the motions with me

(Instrumental--Mariachis!--Ah-hoo-ah!)

Yay, yay, yay, yeah!

Bein' alcoholic is no federal crime, now
(Come on, baby, go through all the motions)
Feliz Cinco de Mayo, it's tequila with lime, now
(Come on, baby, go through all the motions)

With booze or medication it's so easy to do
You just act like a zombie when you're feeling blue
So come on, come on, and go
Through the motions with me
(Come on, baby, go through all the motions)
(Come on, baby, go through all the motions)
You're doin' fine, that's right......
Mmm, mm, mm, mm.....

Jack, Adagio, and Laurence: thanks for the comments, they cheered me up. M-Dawg: the song is really about feeling depressed, lonely or sad but trying to ignore the feelings or mask them with drugs, alcohol or some other addiction. It's about when someone asks you how you are and you feel like crap but you say "Fine, and you?" My age is the product of two prime numbers, and each of them is the sum of two prime numbers. I have two kids and the sum of their ages is ten less than my age. Each of their ages is a multiple of three. I hope that answers your question. d;:^)

I've often wondered how to handle that..if I feel cruddy and someone asks how I am. The don't REALLY want to hear the cruddy stuff, but I feel as if I'm lying if I don't tell them.
