Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

What can you say about Salvador Dali? Long before the psychedelic sixties, Dali was painting like he was on an acid trip. Perhaps he was.
Hello Dali - Salvador Dali.
The museum has your paintings on display.
Are they swell, Dali?
Who can tell, Dali?
Value's growin',
Patrons throwin' ,
All their hard-earned pay.

A girl with three eyeballs!
You paint real oddball.
Bet you never took a lesson in your life, and . . .
Four-year old Sally,
Fingerpaints better than you, Dali.
Dali - Giving you the brush again!

Well, hello Dali - How's by you, Dali?
There's an auction going on at Sotheby's.
Bet your mustache, Dali,
That your trash, Dali,
Sells for more than many third-world nations' GNPs.

A gallery downtown,
Hung one up-side down
And nobody knew the difference anyway, so . . .
If it stank, Dali,
You laughed all the way to the bank, Dali.

Dali! - A Rockwell you ain't.
Dali! - Who said YOU could paint?
Dali! - Hit the canvas once again!

Mari and I like Dali a lot. This song sums up my feelings about Jackson Pollock, but then it wouldn't scan, would it? Good writing though (For other artist mockery, see "Kinkade")

Rick, you know I tried to fit Jackson Pollock into the song, but figure maybe I'll save him for another day. And I'm not quite the disdainer of Dali that the parody might lead you to believe. But I am much more a fan of the Dutch Masters. They really smoke!

gave ya 5s...this is funnier than hell, but c'mon...dali was a great painter

Dave, I love Dali's paintings but appreciate a good parody like yours! Maybe he was tripping when he named one painting "Atmospheric Skull Sodomizing a Grand Piano"!

Maybe the cloned sheep's name was actually "Dali." It would've made more sense, with all due respect to Ms. Parton.

Haha... I came in to check whether it was a ripoff of a Capitol Steps song of the same name (well, same pronunciation, different spelling, as they were talking about the Dalai Lama.) Anyway, nice job.

Great parody! My favorite Salvador Dali story is how he allegedly signed numerous blank canvases and handed them out to his students ...... oh what a stroke of mischievous humor and genius!

Great job.

I would assess the artists the other way around - Rockwell is no Dali - but I still think this is a very good parody. I like the "brush" line.

David, I really enjoyed this..I really do like Dali works though. Good one! 5's

Johnny, the students could paint their own 'masterpieces' on the canvas...;)

This parody has the power of a freight train coming out of the fireplace.... ;-)

I have nothing against Dali, but that was fantastic!

Precisely, Adagio! Wasn't it so totally cool that Salvador did that? He was thumbing his nose at the whole art world by doing that - magnificent! In a way, he was sort of saying that his students were his "medium"!
Adagio - February 19, 2004 - Report this comment
He knew how to think out of the box, Johnny!

Thanks again for all the comments 'n' votes. As I'd mentioned earlier, nothing personal against Dali. The parody just started heading in a direction, and I ran after it. I remember when Op Art and Pop Art became the rage in the '60s. My old man's reading the Sunday paper . . . "Marge! D'ya see where they're callin' that beatnik, Andy Warhol a genius for paintin' pictures o' Campbell Soup cans?!!! So, why aren't they callin' the guy who DESIGNED the damn can a genius? I'd sue ya, ya bum, ya!!

Great job, David!

Your an idiot. Your song is stupid and you have not done your research on Dali. Dali was able to paint photo realistic paintings when he was 14. What have you done besides try to trash a master. Are you jealous?
whitetables - July 29, 2009 - Report this comment
Dave, take a long walk and think before you write anything else. You can't understand the differences Dali makes. You will always look at his paintings and never get it. At least, from now on, remember this, nothing happens by mistake. There is no luck. Because behind every value it's always reasoning. Dali is a men of genius and unfortunately, you are not.
