The Lyrics

The best thing about this one is you don't have to know the melody or sing it. It was a hit song, and in many ways one of the first "rap" songs. When rap used to be funny.
Remember when I came to play
You put me in the car and then you
Took me to the guy you called "the vet"—Well!
I think something occurred in there
Cause when I bent to clean my pair
I saw that I was missing part of the set

And
They're coming to take me to play ha-ha
Yes, that's what they always say ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-ha
To the doggie park
Where I can frolic till after dark
Instead I'm faced with those nice young men
In their clean white coats
That are coming to take them away ha-ha

This is a drag, I had a date
The board behind the shed was loose
I was about to "get some" till that knife -Yow!
The girls now take one look at me
And laugh and laugh and laugh
And so you see that you have
Completely destroyed my life

And
They're coming to take me to play ha-ha
Yes, that's what they always say ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-ha
To the tree-lined street
Where all those bitches are all in heat
Instead I'm faced with those mean young men
In their clean white coats
That are coming to take them away ha-ha

I chased your stick, I fetched your "Times"
And this is how you pay me back for
All my eager, loyal, helpful chores -Hah
Well you just wait, I'll get you back
Someday you'll come on home and slip
On "presents" that I'll leave on your nice floors

And
They're coming to take me to play ha-ha
Yes, that's what they always say ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-ha
To a public beach
Where all those crotches are within reach
Instead I'm faced with those sick young men
In their clean white coats
And they're coming to take them away ha-ha

Not a happy poem.......

Even better, I know the original!

I know part of the original....glad you left the laughs, and a good job!

Rick - I was kicking this one around Thursday night and told my son that this thing was already an original parody. I didn't get an angle on it that was worth writing. This time you beat me on the draw. Well done and hilarious. Classic.

It's always a challenge to take a funny song and make it funnier. I'm not sure if you made it funnier than the original, but you certainly match it at the very least.

Wow! This is great! I know the original well, and you nailed it, dude. Cute doggy theme, too! 5's
Rick D - November 15, 2003 - Report this comment
The doggie theme was for you, Johnnie. A compliment like this means a lot coming from Chuckie and Guy. Thanks.

Great job. I sometimes imagine playing the original song while cruising Wilshire Boulevard in my ride

excellent, but the first rap song is definiutly "Stranded in the jungle" by the Cadets....from the 50s! lol

Well, okay. But it was the first one I heard, where the backup was just a beat and sound effects. And many may remember that the flip side of the record was the same song backwards. We were all waiting for an album from this guy where he only had to write 5 or 6 songs.

"I think something occurred in there/ Cause when I bent to clean my pair"--This has got to be the funniest couplet I've ever seen. Hilarious!! For the record, I've been at this site about nine months and I think I've only seen Chuck take the time to compliment one other song before: http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/gordonlightfoot14.shtml. Great job man

Ah, those Big Slobbers. No wonder the dog in the original ran away! How about a dog's perspective on "The First Cut is the Deepest"?
John Jenkins - November 16, 2003 - Report this comment
A doggone good parody.

The trees and flowers and chirping birds don't matter much without the jewels. Or so I've heard. Nice job on one of my all-time favorite novelty records. And belated thanks to Claude for the plug.

(ABC) Help control the pet population- give this parody 5's. Really funny, Rick.

(ABC) Good stuff, Maynard. Look for Napoleon XIV's CD on Rhino Records, collecting all of his recorded works, "The Second Coming". An intriguingly weird album.

(ABC) Ha Ha! Great parody.

(ABC) I still claim that The Modern Major General Song was the first rap (it sounded quite good when I added a beat to it in a program called Garage Band), but anyway, I second Claude's comment, your opening verse had me hooked. Ditto for 'this is a a drag'. 5 snips, 5 stitches and 5 lollipops.

(ABC "T") Well, you didn't get tangled here, although your canine pal appears to have come away from this encounter quite a bit shorter than he had hoped. Rick...I've been stuck trying to write a similar story-line to a hard rock song for a couple months now. That OS doesn't seem to have enough lyrics to tell my story within. Not a problem with your choice here. 5's - well done.
Phil Alexander - October 19, 2004 - Report this comment
I keep wanting to sing the chorus of this to "He's going to marry Yum Yum" (as I DKTOS), and then stumble on the next line. Lovely parody, Rick. Unless you happen to be a dog, that is :-)
