Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Be sure to imagine the clanking chain rythm track.... Ka-CHINKa-CHINKa-CHINKa-CHINKa-CHINKa-CHINKa-CHINK! Ka-CHINKa-CHINKa-CHINKa-CHINKa-CHINKa-CHINKa-CHINK!
Remember when you ran away
To get out by the trees
Because you had to leave
Before you went berserk?
Well. . .

The city's larger now
And traffic jams are worse and worse
And now you see the sprawl's
Completely out of control
And. . .

They're building a hundred new homes, HA HA
They're building a hundred new homes, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
On the former farm
Where life was beautiful at one time
And I'll be happy to see
Those concrete men
In their great big trucks
And they're building a hundred new homes, Ha-haaa!

You thought us eco-freaks
And so you laughed
You laughed when I had said
Development would make us flip our lids
Right. . .

You know you laughed, I heard you laugh
You laughed, you laughed and laughed
But nothing's left
And now you know I'm utterly right!
And. . .

They're building a hundred new homes, HA HA
They're building a hundred new homes, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
And a big new mall
No trees or flowers or chirping birds
Just couch potatoes who sit indoors
And twiddle their thumbs and toes
And they're building a hundred new homes, Ha-haaa!

They grew your food
Kept clean your air
But this is how you buy them up
And go on with your selfish buildiing sprees?!!
Hah. . .

Well you just wait
We'll stop you yet
And when we do we'll
Put the land in eco-trusts, you greedy pigs!
But. . .

They're building a hundred new homes, HA HA
They're building a hundred new homes, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
On the former farm
Where life was beautiful at one time
And I'll be happy to see
Those concrete men
In their great big trucks
And they're building a hundred new homes, Ha-haaa!

And a big new mall
No trees or flowers or chirping birds
Just couch potatoes who sit indoors
And twiddle their thumbs and toes
And they're building a hundred new homes, Ha-haaa!

On the former farm
Where life was beautiful at one time
And I'll be happy to see
Those concrete men
In their great big trucks
And they're building a hundred new homes, Ha-haaa!

Yeah, my Mom and I BOTH see your point. I'm no tree-hugger, but I can't believe how stupid people are to keep knocking down trees just so they can have extra of that OTHER green. I hope they enjoy their wealth while they're suffocating on a desolate Earth. Your parody scores both on serious AND funny, so 5s easily.

Clever and trenchant twist on the OS.

Very appropriate use of the OS. Do you live in Burbank, by any chance? Building has been going on since WWII. There used to be a vineyard by my house which was replaced by 1950's war boxes - which are morphing into mini mansions - and the older houses are being torn down to make way for big blocks of condos.

Kah-lever! Didn't think this could be parodied well, but as I have learned...NO SONG IS PARODY-PROOF.

Well said, MIke! I live in London, where real estate prices are insane...and unless it's protected by some statute or other, every scrap of open space is being snapped up by developers to build more houses/flats etc. 555

Thanks all! 2 Eagle, I actually live near a not-large Ohio city, that is pretty well lost in the sprawl around it. I'm really no eco-freak myself, but I am tired of seeing the countryside gobbled-up. The beginning of the refrain actually burst out spontaniously as I drove past a particularly lovely landscape going bye-bye....

(with accent) I am with the agreeing of you (stops accent) I am NOT a tree hugger but I see what your saying this was pretty good too 554

nice job Mike - for some reason I kept breaking into "We're Off To See The Wizard" but very clever lyrics - 555

Just stopping by to post something a little less melodramatic than my previous comment.

Simply put, very poignant and well-written.
