The Lyrics

In a little town called Hollywood back many years ago
A man was writing Star Wars, hoping it would make some dough
And to an interviewer he confessed his secret plan
"I think twelve episodes is what this story's gonna span."

And though we've read what Lucas said
We'll never know just what's in George's head

The first one was a big hit, it was raking in the cash
And then the Dark Side started telling Lucas he was rash
So he spoke out in public so that everyone would hear
"This story is nine episodes, just let me make that clear."

And though we've read what Lucas said
We'll never know just what's in George's head

In 1983 the third installment had been shown
And it was time to take a break with Indiana Jones
And looking back on what it took to make that trilogy
"Six episodes is all there is", George Lucas did decree

And though we've read what Lucas said
We'll never know just what's in George's head

And now the final episode's about to hit the streets
But hardcore fans will swear to you the story's incomplete
And though we hope that someday George will listen to the fans
Unless he needs the money all the Jedi have been canned

And though we've read what Lucas said
We'll never know just what's in George's head

(SOTM) I wanted to smack Lucas when I heard he wouldn't make the last three!
Agrimorfee - April 14, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Considering his current track record as a filmmaker, it's probably a good thing he won't make 3 more.

NEHOTOS (Never Even Heard Of The Original Song). Easy to follow, though. I had no idea he had planned to make twelve of 'em. Clearly, three was enough. Good song though.

Well, I've never heard about 12 either, but 9 did reach my neck of the woods.

My MP3 source was fresh out of this OS, alas. Ditto what Claude said.

I'm old enough to remember the days before Star Wars was Episode Anything - it was just one movie with a complete story arc. Oh, and nobody knew who Harrison Ford was.

Thank you all. Yes, Lucas did originally say that there would be 12 episodes, but that was so early in the process that I doubt he had given it much thought. He definitely had thought about it when he said 9, though.
